As you cross the carnival grounds, the hustle and bustle of the festivities ring in your ears. The scents of greasy street food and sickly sweet candy floss drift past your nose. The glimmering lights of the many attractions almost seem like a set of electrical fireworks, sparkling amongst the crowd, as the stars twinkle brightly above. Your eye is drawn to one curious corner of the grounds where the crowd has thinned out. There seems to be a tent there, barely visible to the point where you rub your eyes to check if you are seeing things or not. Was it even there? Squinting and looking again it appeared to be medium-sized, made of blue and purple silks, with no flashing neon signs or shimmering lights to advertise what was contained inside. Curiosity wins out. As you approach the tent you notice the edges seem to fade in and out, almost as if the tent was a ghost or some otherworldly figure. As you hesitate and ponder how this is possible, you notice a hand peek out of the fabric where the entrance should be. A long gnarled finger curled in a beckoning “come here” gesture. You enter the tent and are confronted with the figure of an older woman, hunched over a table that has many objects on top. You can’t really see her face because it’s slightly obscured by a purple veil, but you can vaguely see a wrinkled face. Just as you lean closer to try and figure out who or what you’re looking at, candles spark to life beside the woman, but instead of normal red flame they were an otherworldly blue. “I sense you’re lost, my child… Please, allow me to bring you some clarity. Here, I can see what the universe has to say about you or your future, but you must be the one who chooses through which lens I view your path.” The woman then holds out her hands, as if presenting the table to you, and you notice two objects of note upon the purple silk tablecloth: An ornate deck of cards and a pristine crystal ball the size of a small melon. Which one do you choose?
