Youkoso Jitsuryoku Shijou Shugi no Kyoushitsu e 2nd Season

Life back on the cruise following the Island Special Examination is anything but smooth sailing. Almost immediately after their return, the first-year students of Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School face yet another special exam, with both class and individual points on the line.

In addition to the complicated ruleset, more issues arise in the form of Kakeru Ryuuen and Kei Karuizawa. Angered by the previous test's outcome, Ryuuen is dead set on outdoing every class in the new challenge using any means necessary. Meanwhile, Karuizawa, a crucial pillar of Class D, is close to crumbling under the pressure of her past.

The stage is now set for Kiyotaka Ayanokouji to once again—using the full extent of his planning, foresight, and ruthless manipulation—steer Class D to victory as dangerously close enemy forces try to bring it down.

This is the season where I truly started to love Classroom of the Elite. I totally understand if some people were confused by the first season (2017). Many viewers probably said things like, “What even is this anime?”, “It’s so unclear,” or even, “Cringe, just like its fanbase.” And honestly, I don’t blame them.

But in Season 2, everything starts to click.

Characters that once seemed minor or irrelevant begin to show their importance and depth. One standout is Kei Karuizawa. If you remember, she barely had any presence in Season 1. But here, she becomes a key character in the story.

(And I hope this doesn't count ... as a spoiler 😅)

While the main focus is still on Kiyotaka Ayanokoji, Kei’s storyline is genuinely engaging—and sometimes, even sweet. Really sweet. Like, sugar-sweet. Hehehe 🍭

For those who thought Kei was just a side character, you’re in for a surprise.

In my opinion, this second season is a masterpiece, especially after the somewhat confusing first season. That’s all I wanted to share for now.

Mixed Feelings

When Ayanokoji said at the end of the first season that "all people are tools", I think the writer really meant it. Nearly every student in this show is a plot device, not a character. They are tools to further the plot that surrounds Ayanokoji, not people with their own stories. The few characters that get their motivations revealed or hinted this season honestly have anticlimactic backstories. What happens to these characters is mild and ineffectual in comparison to the warped personality and perverted worldview the characters are left with as a result. They are just written to be assholes so viewers can feel good ... when the glorious 200 iq Ayanokoji puts them in their place.

Speaking of assholes, no character who is consequential to the plot this season is likeable. They are all either viciously antagonistic or absurdly misanthropic. And it's not like these flawed characters get time to develop and become better people. They are assholes and they stay assholes so we can feel good when they are knocked down.

And it really strains the thread that suspends my disbelief to imagine so many people this dysfunctional could exist in real life. Now consider the fact that all these incredibly socially inept (and genuinely stupid, in Sudo's case) HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS are enrolled in a SCHOOL FOR THE ELITE, and you really start to wonder if these students are human beings or carefully constructed obstacles for Ayanokoji to defeat with his cold genius kung-fu aura.

Another issue is that for a show that uses mystery elements, Classroom of the Elite is too predictable. Minor spoiler, but Ayanokoji *never* loses. Any situation we find him in, you can be assured he has the power to come out on top. It's fun when we don't know how he does it and we follow along someone like Horikita as she tries to figure it out, but too many times this season we just watch Ayanokoji Deus-Ex-Machina his way through a problem.

Besides the terrible character writing, the show is okay. Average animation quality for a light novel adaptation and good action sequences when action happens. 5/10.

Honestly complete and utter trash. This anime tries too hard to look thought-out, intelligent and smart or whatever. Decided to suffer through this piece of garbage with my friend, who by the way, is an awesome guy unlike this thing. This waste of time couldn't even be a meme. I shouldn't waste my time further writing a review on this pretentious mess. We are going to make better use of our time and watch some anime that are worth watching at least a second of, which would be Zombie Land Saga. Also, I'm willing to fight any fan of this dung pie, anytime, anyday. Would ... be my pleasure.

Anyway, go ahead and watch it. You'll learn to appreciate even anime like Log Horizon which is also trash, just not on this level.
