Makoto Shinkai definetly catch the attention of his fans by telling stories in a extremelly honest and realistic way. That's why people who loved "The garden of words" and "5 centimeters per second" did not like "Your Name" very much. We have a new post about his other works! http://luxasblog.com/movies-by-makoto-shinkai/

Makoto Shinkai is a good director and his movies are good. However, the problem is that Makoto doesn't make any effort to give us something different. All his movies are almost the same in all senses. I hope if he will try different genres in the future. Good luck man and keep up with the good work.

Garden of Words is my favorite movie, hands down! I love all the visuals, the soundtrack, and the characters (especially Yukino), because they just seem very alive and real and wonderful! I'm also a sucker for rain, so that helps. :) Given, I didn't love 5 centimeters per second, but I'm still really pumped for Kimi no Na Wa! Anyway, thanks for Garden of Words. <3 It's lovely and calming and just what I need every time I watch it.

"He's also committed a terrible crime of turning animated movies, big budget animated movies into canvas for his scenery painting..."
"...He wasted all the big budget on static objects and scenery. It's not that static objects and scenery porn obsession is a crime, I love the art too but animated movies should show how animation could take the story in the next level, not this comics with colour shits."
I don't even know what you're trying to say here. You're expressing your very subjective distaste and end up contradicting yourself.

"However if anything should be animated, it must have a good reason."
Depend on the creator decisions. If you don't like someone's direction then it's fine. But you're making it sound like it is some sort of industry taboo if it doesn't cater to your preference.

moeslasher is the only truth speaker here. His works is no where deep enough to be touch nor memorable. His heartfelt moments are too fleeting, too "grand" to be touching. He likes to have his character rambling grandeur nonsense, trying very hard to be literature, afraid to be viewed as too simplistic, embarrassing to express just feelings. His characters emotions are never expressed well, actions, scenery and words are not enough to express people's emotions, their facial reactions are too and they are never done well enough. Every of his characters are drawn similarly, no uniqueness. All of them have the same personality too: aloof and obsessive. They are always having words in their mind, brooding and irresolute. They are like a bunch of self-indulge young people whose mind cannot have anything else other than their self-pity and obsessiveness for their partner. He's not even a good love story teller, he always avoided the moment people fell in love and the moment they face the challenge to their love. For a love story, taking those away feels like cutting arms and legs off the script. It feels so disconnected and distant to the heart. He has much to learn from Shoujo and especially josei comics. He's also committed a terrible crime of turning animated movies, big budget animated movies into canvas for his scenery painting. Sure it looks nice but it serves almost no purpose to the story and it is there for him to seemingly shows off his skill with colours and brush. So many people complained about Shaft doing it but this guy is the same. He wasted all the big budget on static objects and scenery. It's not that static objects and scenery porn obsession is a crime, I love the art too but animated movies should show how animation could take the story in the next level, not this comics with colour shits. I have to give it to him that he knows his own limit when he was compared to Miyazaki, whose works always impress with the level of scenery porn that somehow not many notice due to his mastery in animating people, characters and object. Miyazaki should never be compare to this glorified comic maker.
I wish interject that I love comics and I always see comics as superior medium to animation (as far as tv shows are concerned) due to the attention to details comics are given and the fact that comics are forced to handle static frame to demonstrate movement forces artists to take visual cue to the next level. However if anything should be animated, it must have a good reason. Animation medium is an upgrade to comics and only masters such as Miyazaki could saturate it. By the way if you don't understand his greatness, imagine the dragon running from paper part in Spirited Away in comic form. Only Miyazaki could demonstrate such amazing movement in animation. No one, no one else comes close.
