Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru

After passing away, a Japanese office worker finds himself reincarnated in another world as Ars, the newborn son of the noble Louvent family. The Summerforth Empire, where the Louvents rule over a small territory of a few thousand people, is a medieval-like land plagued by social inequality and political instability. As Ars grows older and learns more and more about his new environment, he becomes convinced that war will soon erupt.

Fortunately, though Ars was not blessed with unrivaled strength or extraordinary magical aptitude, he does possess Appraisal: a seemingly unique skill that allows him to instantly grasp someone's current abilities and latent talents merely by looking at them. In an effort to prepare his domain for the imminent strife, Ars resolves to enlist the most exceptional people he can find, paying no attention to superficial qualities like race or social status.

Classic Isekai premise, japanese salaryman dies due to stress and is reincarnated into a noble family. As the name implies, his unique "cheat skill" is that of appraisal: He can determine numerical values for the current and maximum capabilities of individuals in various aspects of life, mostly pertaining to personality traits and combat potential. It is not so much a cheat skill as a unique skill, and he cannot use it on himself.

As a noble, he proceeds to slowly accrue a valuable set of retainers and earn the respect of his subjects, family, retainers, and even other nobles. The main crux of the show is ... him dealing with political tensions and a brewing war. Watch the show for more details.

The show is a solid piece, and definitely has some interesting potential. There are a few conceptual issues I take with it, such as the maximum potential being either inconsistent or actually irrelevant to a persons life. For example, we learn that the mage as 1/1 (curret/max) ambition, but she seems to be doing better and has devoted herself to the family later, implying that either her maximum ambition grew and is never revealed, or that the stat doesn't have a linear relationship with what someone is capable in that field. In general this is not that much of a problem.

The show goes to great lengths to make people seem significant based on these scores however. These immutable traits are not shunned for those who have low scores, however Ars is recognized as having a discerning eye and a keen sense of hidden talent, when in reality he is somehow objectively assessing potential. If someones potential is never going to rise above a certain rank, then would this promote some sort of objective scale of value among people? This is never touched on in the show, I don't doubt partially because the scale is completely restricted to Ars' perspective, and he is not the type of person to think critically about what his skills could imply morally. But it does draw us the audience to the obvious conclusion that some people are worth more than others. This is even a key plot point and the crux of the last two episodes, if not explicitly spelt out in this manner.

I believe the show has some inherent flaws that could be found with any of these shows where people have different potentials inscribed into them at birth. If there indeed is some way to improve your maximum stats and we just haven't seen it, then that is perhaps my only issue with the show abated.

The only other complaint I have, which is not really with the show itself but rather its format, is that there is no dub. I generally prefer the dub as I can watch the show at 2x speed instead of 1.5, but with this show I was perfectly content watching it even though I had to read a fair bit.

As for the good, there is a lot to mention. The plot is interesting for what it is trying to do, the characters are all lovely, and the animation is above average. There are moments where it is the standard panning shot found in any show, but there are also plenty of moments where you see a shot and it stands out to you as being particularly well-coordinated (the two that stand out to me are Ars training and swinging his sword, and the dynamic camera shot of the archers pulling back their bows). The show doesn't use any CGI, and really it doesn't feature combat in any meaningful sense, aside from a few short scenes here and there. Honestly this is my preferred sort of show, more of a political intrigue plot than anything where people are just firing energy blasts at one another until one person does something cunning or out-mana's the other.

Overall, I would say the good outweighs the potential negative implications of the show. I doubt my complaints would bother most other people when watching, since there are a lot of worse things in other shows of this genre. It's a generic feel-good political drama set in a fantasy noble world. I think most people already interested would enjoy. 8/10.

Mixed Feelings

Tensei Kizoku, Kantei Skill de Nariagaru had no right to be an Isekai anime, his reincarnation served no purpose to the plot and I think actually detracted from the story itself, if this was actually about a 12 year old in a fantasy world having to step up after the untimely demise of his father and using the skills he has to prevail I think it would've been quite a good show, but every time you remember Ars is actually forty-seven mentality and not twelve, well it will really make you think what the eff am I watching. There are literal children in world and ... amongst his retainers that act with more maturity and common sense than your forty seven year old MC.

I debated over giving this "Mixed" or "Not Recommended", but the fact that I basically was letting the last episode play through on secondary monitor while browsing the internet (I don't do that with good anime) to just "get it over with", made me re-think a lot about how I felt about this anime.

I will give this 5/10, mostly because I think it has some good parts, so you should watch it and make up your own mind, but still "Not Recommend" it to balance it out, cause I can.

The MC has gotten worse as the anime progressed. It's almost like the writer was planning to make the MC "grow" into a man with all of the drama about him learning how to fight, take responsibility and adjust mentally to the reality of war and death, but suddenly was told to turn MC into just a regular anime kid who does nothing but yell and overacts to every situation till the end. Maybe that was the plan from the start, and if that's the case, this has to be the dumbest writing decision since someone shat out the script to Moonrise and "The Unaware Atelier Meister".

This show went from me looking forward to the MC growing strong, to me hating him for being a brat that just cries and whines constantly even at most casual situations (like, being chased by his own allies for fun).

That and this is just a generic harem anime at this point where the writer is getting off on "stronger women" lording their talents over men. You can tell the moment that happens, when characters start becoming way too unrealistic in what they can accomplish. For example, Mireille (a character introduced at like end of the fucking season) is the most pointless late addition to the team that just does what everyone else does, but drunk.

But really, let's talk more about the MC.

ARS..E THE MC

Side-characters can be meh, but what really makes or breaks these Isekai shows is the MC. Ars (aptly named) doesn't use his ONE fucking talent properly, and uses it less and less the longer the show goes on.

Are you telling me, the kid who set out to make his lands strong, didn't bother hiring most of the talented people from the empire, like the "smith" or "engineer" we can clearly see HIM see, during his talent hunt?

Imagine having the ability to just see everyone's talent, and then you spend the next few years just hiring like 10 people to be either no-named soldiers or your "strategists" (read=better fighters with average strategies), while ignoring every other talent, like an amazing smith, engineer, chemist, etc. Even his "strategists" didn't tell him to actually look for talented people like those to prepare for incoming war. Over the years, they do nothing but go to fucking wars which the MC obviously is too cucked to take part in, so he just stays at home and never uses his ability to look for more talent to even reinforce his fucking 10 ppl army. I think at the end of the show they had like 30-40 people "army" and yeah, it's THAT stupid.

Keep in mind, the MC has one talent. ONE. FUCKING. TALENT.

Really, he's an idiot at basic strategy, godawful at fighting, cannot give even basic inspiring speech to his troops, cannot inspire others through his heroic deeds, and the one talent he does possess, he doesn't even use it most of the time. In-fact, I think the writer and director actually forgot he had that skill as the show went on, because I'm pretty sure he doesn't even use this skill in the last few episodes even once.

To make it worse, the writer at one point makes it look like the MC will grow up, and become a man, only to turn him into a raging, whining little kid the more the show progresses. The older the MC got (he was like 12 by the time the show ended), the more childish he mentally became.

MC went from someone who could have had an interesting growth to an ultimate cuck who cries and screams constantly at everything.

There are kids who are forced to grow up in the real world because of garbage parents, an awful society they were born in, forced to survive and take care of their siblings through wars and poverty. Hell, even the MC's first "retainer" is one of those kids. The fact that MC just gets more and more "bratty first world teen" than learning from the people he hires, is just awful writing on a whole new level. I mean, that fucking first retainer even tells the MC that he can't help poor people at one point, the writing is that stupid.

Anyway, I was going to rate this show 7/10, but half-way through, the show became too stupid and cookie cutter anime trash to be anything more than 5/10.

Still giving it 5 for what it could've been. What a waste.
