Overlord Movie 3: Sei Oukoku-hen

Summary : Ains Ooal Gown, formerly Momonga, leads the Sorcerer Kingdom's undead forces to ally with the Sacred Kingdom and Slane Theocracy against Demon Emperor Jaldabaoth.

Art. : for me, as a child the gore is not that gory. But the art derection its good and the CGI not half bad. From other season, its improvemant I give it 9/10

Story. : But the strory direction is different. The first 15 munite they already coverd litle of half the book in novel 12. So they cut a lot of background ... of the character and the kindom story. Making when you watch the movie for the first time without the novel. You feel don't know who and what happen so its feel cluncky. But the rest is fine. 6/10

Voice actor: phenomenan all of them expect CZ2128 Delta the lipsing is kind off. The animation giving CZ2128 too much emotion in their animation but the voice is like emotionless. But i know she a robot. 8/10

To be great, anime movies based on existing series must avoid just being a boring season recap and they must deliver goods beyond what a show can. Sometimes that can be moving the plot forward in a major way or maybe an epic spectacle that budget or canon in the series doesn't allow for.

Overlord The Sacred Kingdom charts a third way; it's not a recap, but we've already seen Demiurge and Ainz's evil demon/heroic savior act before and done better in the show. Ainz goes as himself instead of disguised as Momon, yet we never really see the sorcerer king go all out. Oh, ... don't misunderstand. He does, especially the climactic battle. We just don't get to see much of it. We see flashes, we see DBZ-style lines clashing midair. At one point someone excitedly recounts how Ainz one-shotted a strong enemy. All I could do was laugh.

In fact, the denizens of Nazarick are surprisingly absent from their own movie. Ainz is relegated to a supporting role while almost everyone else is a cameo at most. I suppose the first warning sign should've been the poster where Ainz is hiding off in a corner like some dude at a party hoping no one will notice he farted.

I actually wouldn't mind this too much if the story and new characters were interesting, but the story often feels stretched out and much of it unnecessary. Most of the characters are forgettable or outright obnoxious. The only exception is Neia, a young female squire assigned as Ainz's attendant. Their budding friendship is the highlight of the flick, made all the better with our knowledge that every sinister happening involving Neia's kingdom is Ainz's doing. I appreciate that Overlord can be wicked like that. Neia also befriends one of the demon maids and they play off each other quite well. As much as I enjoyed Neia she did kind of reinforce how much better the movie is when, you know, the regulars from the actual show are involved.

By all rights I should rate this as Not Recommended, there's no reason this forgettable TV arc needed to be a movie. However, it's not offensively bad and if you've invested four seasons into Overlord you might as well check this out, too. The movie promises more shenanigans will happen in the Sacred Kingdom so you might as well get familiar with it. You've come this far, so my final score is Eh, Why Not/10.

I just wouldn't recommend you pay theater ticket prices for Overlord The Sacred Kingdom; wait until it's streaming on Crunchyroll.

It was genuinely just okay.

Visually, it's very good. It also does the Overlord political maneuvering and manipulation as well as the rest of the series. But it felt like it was too crammed into one long run to adequately cover the whole arc.

Major fights upon which the plot hinges are over in an instant when they should have lasted longer (It was supposed to be staged to make it look like a difficult match up for Ainz) and worse yet they happen far off in the distance so you don't even get to enjoy the action and animation together like a regular fight. It's just ... a couple of colored streaks through the sky and some flashing lights for a minute or so and then a winner is declared.

But that's not even the biggest complaint. Half the new characters felt so under-cooked that it made it hard for me to care what was going on. The paladin lady - Remedios - was probably the worst. She was incredibly irritating, and had the potential for a whole mental breakdown arc over the events of the story that could have played out well.... if this were a full season of anime. Unfortunately, a lot of the supporting backstory needed for this is completely omitted. She has no reason for her position, her obsession, nor her drive and it all feels lackluster. Any really compelling moments she could have had throughout the story were either cut entirely or stunted by terrible decisions in directing.

Nea Baraha was a decently compelling character, but came off more like a fangirl with how fast she develops her respect for Ainz. Given more time, she too could have been a much better character. It wasn't like I hated her, but she suffered the same effect as Remedios because of the cramming - her writing felt robbed of potency.

And all that while the story crams what feels like a lengthy campaign into about 2 hours and 20 minutes, cutting corners in every way it can to reach a conclusion within that time frame, and awkwardly interrupting the story with the whole advertisement for rune technology in a way that wasn't funny or even super important to the plot.

Wait until you can watch it from home, get some alcohol, and enjoy. You'll have a better time than I did driving 40 minutes to the nearest showing at 9:30 on a Sunday night.
