The life of heroes is not a fairy tale

Hundreds of series of a similar genre suffer from cliched characters. Some are good and for everything good, others are bad and for everything evil, and the rest are details. Under the guise of originality, sometimes you come across titles about "good villains". It would seem that it is difficult to come up with something new here - but in this case, the authors at least tried.

Despite the quite standard plot (the hero gets a weak class and still plans to come to success with it), Noel Stollen is not at all a typical shonen central character, ... consistently following the rails of the plot with the help of loyal friends.

The world of anime is not divided into clearly good and bad, and therefore is quite realistic. You can come to an agreement with local criminals when interests intersect, set up or quarrel with competitors in the profession in order to bypass in the career race, and recruit the right person by not the most diplomatic methods.

The main character is not an obvious villain: like everyone else, he simply lives by the rules of this world. And he gets by in life in all available ways, and does not simply receive superpowers from an unknown artifact or from an incredibly cool sensei after grueling training.

A big plus of the series is that the scenes in which the hero behaves like a villain do not cause Spanish shame. His actions are understandable, and the motivation, although mundane in places, is certainly not fantastic. For example, the customer tried to send our adventurer on a suicide mission, and then poison him so as not to pay the money that he already owes to the mafia. As a result, he lost an eye and all his savings, and then - his problems. In mafia series, such a plot twist would definitely not surprise viewers - so why should it do this in anime?

The plot itself is definitely not an Oscar contender and is generally quite linear. But it is still interesting to watch due to the scenery, which has moved away from black-and-white cliches and hero types, for whom "this world is absolutely clear." What Stollen will do next is difficult to predict, and this brings out minor shortcomings in the narrative.

The series has its downsides, of course. But against the background of typical representatives of the genre, this is one of the best finds: if, of course, you are not a fan of knights in shining armor, this title can be a "cold shower" that will bring you back from "heaven to earth." Here they suffer - and for the most part, quite deservedly.

This show was definitely a bit of a mixed bag.

It took the typical "I want to be the greatest" plot and flipped it on its head. The MC, Noel, is not a good person. If anything, he's kind of evil. But there is logic to everything he does in the show and watching his little schemes to get ahead is what makes the show entertaining. Although the show would have benefitted from showing a little bit more of Noel's set-ups instead of plopping them down on the table most of the time. Even still the aspect was interesting and held my attention.

Contrarily, I don't think ... the show did enough at the end of the season to really end with a bang. It was honestly a bit disappointing. The ending, Noel's flip-floppy morals (which I think was a writing issue), and some poor animation in the latter half of the season bring this down, despite the breath of fresh air it provided with the plot. Therefore, from average I gave +1 because of the positives and -1 because of those negatives, leaving it with a 5.

even with 12 episodes the show failed to make me like a single character. before watching, I was intrigued how this show could make a "non-combat class" a strong leader, but then I remembered that I exist in a time where every single "weak class" anime doesn't even entertain the possibility of having an actually physically weak MC.

Noel Stollen, the lead character, lives and breathes the notorious tag he is given. it's actually incredible for a show having the word "talker" in the title to have one of the most annoying, uncharismatic, and abrasive pricks I have seen in the recent years in fiction. and ... you are supposed to side with him.

no one in the cast, and I really do mean, NO ONE in the whole show challenges him in his views. he is always in the right, and the people he pesters ALWAYS lose their temper and act like manchildren. no character in this show talks like a real person. every character that has an ugly design, will try to backstab the main character (and fail ofc). and every time Noel starts chatting sh*t, the show puts on this annoying, Draculas castle basement type beat in the background, and you will not escape it. because it will play EVERY episode.

talker being the weakest class, doesn't actually matter. Noel being another black hair, trench coat MC will win no matter what. there is no stakes, no tension, no redemption in characters or their happenings. revenge doesn't have pay off, because it was not built on. every single character is the same. they all crack under Noel's "pressure". this doesn't make Noel a smart character, it rather shows that every character is stupid, noel is just... "less" stupid.

because a dumb writer cannot write smart characters.
