Death Parade

After death, either Heaven or Hell awaits most humans. But for a select few, death brings them to Quindecim—a bar where only pairs of people who die at the same time can enter. Attending the bar is an enigmatic figure known as Decim, who also acts as the arbiter. He passes judgment on those who wind up at Quindecim by challenging them to a life-threatening game. These games determine if the patron's soul will reincarnate into a new life, or be sent into the void, never to be seen again.

From darts and bowling to fighting games, the true nature of each patron slowly comes to light as they wager their souls. Though his methods remain unchanged, the sudden appearance of a black-haired amnesiac causes Decim to reevaluate his own rulings.

This is a very good show. Don't let the naysayers trick you into thinking it isn't. Somehow it reminds me of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, probably because of the classical music and how the story unfolded in the last two episodes. One thing drags this show down, and it's the 12-episode format. Had it been 28 or split into two-three seasons, it would've been an amazing series.

The production is high class, the intro reminds me of Cowboy Bebop, the animation is top notch, voice acting, music, everything is very well executed. I get where the criticism comes from, there's no time to flesh out ... these stories on a deeper level. And the creators needed to reserve a few episodes for the overarching story.

But overall, I feel that the initial message and idea have been conveyed. It's a show about the meaning of life, and baseline moral things like good and evil, and I'm a sucker for those. The concepts and ideas are not new, but they are portrait in a clear and approachable way. There are some memorable characters inside as well, which speaks volumes for a 12-episode long series.

Mixed Feelings

An intellectual goth's dream right here.
Everyone I know calls this show "One of the most underrated anime", "A hidden gem", etc. And overall I did like it. Do I think it's like the best thing ever? No. But it's a cool show.
The concept right off the bat is real high brow. Like this isn't a show you put on in the background while doing dishes. You gotta focus to know what's happening. Usually those kinds of shows aren't my thing but this one was cool. It's a great mix of very dark concepts and dry humor. Even the times where things were more ... graphic were never over the top. The cast of characters is pretty small but it's a good blend of personalities and there really wasn't anyone I truly hated. Everyone had something I liked. The music also was great. Not just the theme song (Although picking such an upbeat tune for a show where people are playing bar games to death is kind of strange) but the scene music too was killer.
But I was never really "hooked". Like I enjoyed watching it but I wasn't dying to know what was going on. And the art style at times was a bit off putting. IDK if it's the studio or just a choice but it wasn't my cup of tea.
I think if you like more dark and thinking shows, this is a good fit. But it's not for everyone, and that's fine

If you want an anime that bores you to death that is death parade

from lackluster characters to dull plots and tedious story-telling it's not a good show

heads up guys
I was drawn in by the fancy style and the white-haired bartender looking suave
but sadly that is all this show got going for itself, a veneer

Also the ending didn't conclude the anime in a logical manner, I painstakingly endured till the end to see what the fuss was all about , but it is lukewarm and dissatisfying

At first the premise is promising giving us a hint about what the story is about, death ... and the intricacies of souls entering into this realm, but it could have been much more, there simply is no mystery at the core of the story, which doesn't make sense to me
