Ranma ½ (2024)

During their martial arts training expedition in China, Ranma Saotome and his father Genma suffered an accident, which in turn, afflicted them with a curse—whenever they are doused with cold water, Ranma transforms into a girl, while his father turns into a panda! Only hot water can reverse these changes, but any further contact with cold water opens the can of worms once more.

Unfortunately, the trouble does not end there, as Ranma finds out about his betrothal to one of the daughters of Soun Tendou, his father's closest friend. During the families' first meeting, it is decided that Ranma is to be married to Akane, the youngest daughter, a decision that is met with vehement protests from both sides. The two are simply not compatible, yet they are forced to live under one roof. Ranma's status quo further adds to the chaos, leading him to a series of comedic situations and misunderstandings that, in the grand scheme of things, may just be what he needs to work with Akane.

This is peak. The art style, the animation, the sound design, the pacing, the comedy, the conflicts... All of it is peak.

I highly recommend giving the first episode a try. The premise is not, like I mistakenly thought, a weird fetish thing. It's unusual, but that only lets the author's creativity shine. And the premise is not the only interesting aspect of Ranma 1/2, all of the characters are unique and there are many fun and intriguing aspects to many of them.

I have not watched the original nor read the manga, an I find myself captivated by this anime every moment (it's a remake ... apparently).
The most difficult part in watching this is waiting for the next episode rather than watching the old version, for the pain of seeing the episode end is hard to bear.

This reboot of Ranma ½ is truly a respectable work.

Although I have a personal preference for the charm of the classic anime from the 80s, this new adaptation is impressive! It's not perfect, but MAPPA should be congratulated for creating a version that is much more faithful to the manga. I would like the pace to be a little slower, but even so, it doesn't interfere with my experience.

For now, my rating is 10. I haven't watched anything as fun and funny as this anime recently. Although the soundtrack isn't as impactful as the original, the reboot has brought marked improvements, especially in the ... fluidity of the animation. And, as I mentioned, the fidelity to the manga has brought a leaner narrative, leaving aside unnecessary filler scenes and characters. In short, I'm loving this new experience and I can't wait to see what comes next!

We’ve hit a low point with remakes and rehashes The dialogue is butchered, and much of the story loses coherence compared to the source material. Visually, it’s lifeless and assembly-line bland— I'm shocked to find Disney does not have its name attached to this

This series's high praise reflects an audience more interested in the novelty of things instead of pushing for new and original IPs. Mappa has butchered much of the humor, character moments, and key story turns that made the original special. An 8.04 rating is baffling; this show barely scrapes a 6 but I guess in this era of creative bankruptcy across every ... form of entertainment even a butchered version of Ranma is still more coherent than today's slop


I’m generally wary of remakes, as Western media’s obsession with them has led to creative stagnation—nostalgia has outshined originality, sidelining fresh IPs. Now, even anime and Japanese media seem poised to enter this same rot, with endless calls for reboots and remakes crowding out new stories. It’s a shame, as titles like Frieren might be the last meaningful, culturally resonant stories we see for a while.
