Nihon e Youkoso Elf-san.

Since childhood, Kazuhiro Kitase has been able to dream of a different world. He can return to reality by falling asleep or dying, and he can pick up where he left off by sleeping again. For years, he has had many adventures alongside Mariabelle, a beautiful elf who works for the Sorcery Guild.

On one of their escapades, they come across the lair of a dragon taking care of its eggs. They inadvertently wake the slumbering beast, who promptly reduces them to ashes. For Kazuhiro, it is merely a temporary setback, as he can simply go back. However, he is shocked to find Mariabelle herself safe and sound asleep next to him.

Kazuhiro realizes that his dream world is an alternate reality altogether. In the meantime, he makes the most of this bizarre circumstance, introducing Mariabelle to the sights and wonders of Japan. Now, with their time together spanning two worlds, their real adventures have just begun!

Story
I came into this anime expecting a total "nothing-burger" and was pleasantly surprised when it shattered my low expectations. Even though it is a very casual anime, we get to see satisfying development in the relationships between characters and decent world-building. Don't get me wrong, it's nothing profoundly deep, but it's enough to keep the viewer interested while maintaining its relaxed, casual tone. The only thing that confuses me is the inclusion of the Comedy genre tag; I believe Romance would be a much more accurate genre description.

Art Style
You can see a noticeable effort put into this production. Both the representations of Japan and the ... fantasy world look very good. The character designs are not lazy "slop," and they feature a decent amount of detail and shading. The animations are good, and the monsters are well-rendered. While it doesn't achieve masterpiece status in terms of art, the production quality is good for sure.

Conclusion
If you are looking for something casual that blends a bit of romance and fantasy with a unique connection to our real world, I think it's worth trying at least the first three episodes.

And now there's even a double isekai anime: Kazuhiro Kitase regularly oversleeps and finds himself in a fantasy world. There, he has to fight monsters and other humans alongside the elf Mariabelle. But one day, by chance, he takes Mariabelle with him to present-day Japan when he wakes up.

The anime repeatedly takes place in both worlds. In the fantasy world, it's all about fighting and survival, while in Japan, the focus is on the cozy side of life: eating, excursions, and sightseeing. Later, Wridra also joins the group.

None of this is particularly exciting – but it's still entertaining somehow. This is mainly due ... to the characters: Kazuhiro, Mariabelle and later Wridra have good chemistry with each other. Their interactions make the anime appealing and provide some nice moments.

Unfortunately, the premise of the two worlds doesn't quite live up to its potential. The transitions between fantasy and reality in particular could have offered more depth and surprises.

Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! isn't an action-packed blockbuster, but a quiet, charming isekai with a unique concept. If you're in the mood for a relaxed mix of fantasy and everyday life, this is definitely worth checking out.

Und hier gibt es nun sogar einen doppelten Isekai-Anime: Kazuhiro Kitase verschläft es regelmäßig in eine Fantasy-Welt. Dort muss er sich gemeinsam mit der Elfe Mariabelle gegen Monster und andere Menschen behaupten. Doch durch einen Zufall nimmt er Mariabelle eines Tages beim Aufwachen mit in das heutige Japan.

Der Anime spielt immer wieder in beiden Welten. In der Fantasy-Welt geht es ums Kämpfen und Überleben, während in Japan der gemütliche Teil des Lebens im Vordergrund steht: Essen, Ausflüge und Sightseeing. Später stößt auch Wridra zur Gruppe dazu.

Das ist alles nicht sonderlich spannend – aber trotzdem irgendwie unterhaltsam. Das liegt vor allem an den Charakteren: Kazuhiro, Mariabelle und später Wridra haben eine gute Chemie miteinander. Ihre Interaktionen machen den Anime sympathisch und sorgen für einige schöne Momente.

Leider wird aus der Prämisse der zwei Welten nicht alles herausgeholt, was möglich wäre. Gerade die Wechsel zwischen Fantasy und Realität hätten mehr Tiefe und Überraschungen bieten können.

Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf! ist kein actionreicher Kracher, aber ein ruhiger, charmanter Isekai mit einem besonderen Konzept. Wer Lust auf eine entspannte Mischung aus Fantasy und Alltagsleben hat, kann hier durchaus mal reinschauen.

Marie is barely a person, so it can be difficult to watch. I realize this is supposed to just be a "helpless femoid depends on me" fantasy for a lot of guys, but wouldn't you still want to watch characters with a little more depth? Is this the real "male fantasy" I hear so much about? A bland and shallow male self-insert MC is to be expected for something like this, but usually such a show would be carried by more interesting side-characters or a cool story.

In addition to that major flaw, I think the show is really held down by trying to have the ... story switch back and forth between the two worlds, especially when the fantasy side isn't very well thought-out (even by generic Isekai trash standards). It seems to serve as filler to pad the runtime and keep the attention of viewers who would otherwise get bored of a dedicated story of Mariabelle trying to get by in the modern day. Of course, that doesn't mean that the rest of the show isn't also plagued by terrible writing. The pacing is all over the place and there's little sense of meaningful progression and continuity throughout the show. None of the few things that actually happen feel earned.

What's concerning to me is that people seem to really like this show despite these sorts of issues. I guess there aren't many others like me who got tricked by the premise into watching some "solo leveling"-esque trash.
