 The official X (formerly Twitter) account of HJ Novels announced an anime adaptation of Suzuki Makishima's Nihon e Youkoso Elf-san. (Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf!) light novel on Thursday. Makishima began writing the comedy novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in February 2017. Hobby Japan published the first volume under its HJ Novels imprint in August 2018, featuring illustrations by Yappen. The ninth volume was released on October 19. Sumio Aono (Watashi no Oshi wa Akuyaku Reijou.) began serializing a manga adaptation in Comic Fire magazine in December 2018. Hobby Japan shipped the eighth volume on May 1. J-Novel Club licensed the light novel and manga in English for digital release in January 2019 and November 2020, respectively. The eighth light novel volume went on sale on June 20. The seventh manga volume was released on March 8, with the eighth volume scheduled to be released on January 3, 2024. Synopsis Kazuhiro Kitase's only hobby is sleeping. Ever since he was young, he would enter a wondrous world within his dreams and go on thrilling adventures. One day, he goes on an adventure with an elf girl he became friends with in his dream world, but it's put to an abrupt halt when they both get scorched with a dragon's breath! | @Piromysl I'm even wondering what led to such a prominent "elf waifu in the real world" trend. In the manga it's not even that unusual anymore. Are we witnessing the transition of folk mythology to modern urban mythology in real time? |

| @My-T Last year there was also a CGDCT show about an elf who became a hikkimori deity in one of the Tokyo temples. It is characteristic that the premise could well have had an ordinary Japanese goddess (especially considering the large doses of specific lore in the show), but the author wrote precisely the almost immortal fantasy elf who came to Japan. |

| Fantasy characters getting reverse-isekai'd into modern Japan seems to be the new trend now. (Altho the concept is not that new, Hataraku Maou-sama already did it 10 years ago) I don't mind it, this plot setup usually makes for some decent comedy. |
