I honestly believe The Fruit of Evolution is one of the most misunderstood anime on this site.
Most people seem to have dropped it after one or two episodes, assuming it’s just another “isekai parody” or “farming gag.” But if you actually stay with it, you’ll realize it’s far more than that.

This series has a surprisingly balanced pace — every battle, conversation, and emotional scene feels intentional. It never drags, but it never rushes either. The comedy (especially through little girl, Ayla) adds just enough lightness to keep it human, while the core of the story stays about growth, rejection, and self-acceptance.

Unlike most overpowered-MC anime, Seiichi’s ... power isn’t just a cheat — it’s a burden. He still has to fight, learn, and evolve through his choices. The show also reflects how people fear what they don’t understand, how society isolates difference, and how self-worth is something you earn, not something granted by others.

Sure, the animation quality isn’t top-tier, and it’s not produced by a massive studio. But you can feel the heart of the people who made it. Every scene, every bit of humor and emotion, shows a team that really cared.

It breaks my heart that a project made with this much love and sincerity is being dismissed because of superficial judgments.
This isn’t trash — it’s a flawed, passionate work full of warmth, meaning, and courage.

If you gave up early, give it another chance.
It deserves it. 🌱

It's very inconsistent quality and start of extremely bad. But it has some episodes here and there worth of calling a "6/10" but at it's worst it's like "2/10" so on average a 4/10 seemed fair.
First I'll say the positive things:
-The Intro kind of slaps
-Lena is a W from the start, and kind of stays that way through the series.
-Occasionally there's good writing a like... hints of actual character depth mostly in episodes which include Lena be it a coincidence or not.
-There's decent character design
-The world building is fairly okay as well.

Alright on to all of the problems:
-Lazy (missed opportunity, you could have made it ... about the MC having to find a creative way to use his seemingly useless skill, instead he never actually uses it again apart from very early on and like 1 other time. Halfway through episode one they already ruined the premise of their own story. But worst of all they don't even execute the lazy solution properly and correctly as they don't have him simply become OP even though there's 0 reason he shouldn't be able to.
I get into detail on my reviews on each episodes specifically but essentially another one of the biggest issues is logical flaws.
Things that quite simply don't make any sense, people having authority they shouldn't, but also just things that make no sense happen all the time.

I don't want to mark my comment as a spoiler but from here on out I'll discuss slightly more detailed things and criticism so if you want to go in completely blind I would recommend you stop reading here.

-You gained the power to solve food shortages and world hunger, obviously there's gonna be a catch but even if there wasn't it defenitly seems like an easy skill just get rich off. Meanwhile he's out here selling weird singular grapes. Like tf, that's not how grapes work. They aren't necessarily a bad choice as they are seen as expensive and wealthy in most ages throughout history but that's not how you grow and harvest them.
-Of course he bloody adopted a child, sure why not.
-Creativity is out of the window lol "eats another fruit and instantly acquires "sword god" undoing the whole plot of the bloody show" There's a 100 different directions you could have taken his skill and plenty of them would have been interesting but "nope."
Also FYI if it's just legal to produce skill fruits like that why did they have to wait for like some silly ceremony thing like... what.
WDYM "two skills" my man are you actually like mentally challenged, the reason I was pissed was because of this silly writing, you can just eat the whole crate of skill fruits and become a demi-god, that's why I was annoyed at the dumb writing. (Nvm the fact that the child used multiple fruits in the food so she should actually be dead but okay)
It's also so silly anyway because being immune to the poison shouldn't make the skill fruit work. That'd mean every single person with some form of poison immunity skill would just be able to eat multiple fruits. Heck just make an antidote for the poison, even if it's cyanide that'd still be somewhat possible I'm sure there's some skill who can do that or even straight up just "heal" the poison. I'm starting to be convinced this was written by AI. B series was way too generous this is like a D series.

-at some point they try to convince you fire doesn't conduct electricity.

“Bogus Skill <<Fruitmaster>>: About That Time I Became Able to Eat Unlimited Numbers of Skill Fruits (That Kill You)”, (R-N-effing-Gesus what a title. I think it’s too short. Come on, I believe in You, You can shove at least 5 more sentences in there if You try) is what happens when You create a show without any sort of stakes happening in one of the dumbest, nonsensical worlds I have ever seen in any medium (That’s me being nice).

I have seen many shitty anime, but rarely have I seen something so pathetic in the writing department. The level of writing on display in this show ... is probably below high school. There is no logic whatsoever in this show. The level of soft in its soft power system is just a nanometer away from being a liquid. Yes, it’s that bad.

Before we start I would like to explain something. I will be talking about “plot” and “story”. Many people use those terms interchangeably. I’m not one of those people, so to make sure everyone is on the same page…
I use the definitions for “plot” and “story” as Lisa Cron describes them:
“What happens in the story is the PLOT, the surface events.”
“STORY is about how the things that happen affect someone in pursuit of a difficult goal, and how that person changes internally as a result”.

You know how sometimes someone is so bad at writing that You get second hand embarrassment reading or watching what they created? Yeah. You guessed it. This show is just that. I know anime in the last few years fell downhill when it comes to writing but rarely (well… maybe lately a bit more) do I see something so bad. Despite having a good premise, one that would be amazing for a proper story about someone who, despite having been dealt a shitty hand, thrives in a world that looks down on his skill. Even a mediocre writer could have created something worth Your time out of that. But, unfortunately, this show wasn’t blessed with a mediocre writer. It got someone who either is so good that they wanted to create garbage and succeed, or so bad that they couldn’t write even a high school essay. This show is worse than the baby's first screenplay. It’s all plot. Not that there is anything wrong with that, there are many good shows that are mostly plot, but this one is so bad that it doesn’t even innovate on the formula. Everything and I do mean EVERYTHING that is served in this show borderlines on plagiarism. You’ve seen it a thousand times in much better anime.

So the main shtick of this show is that the MC — Light (not Yagami) — is not like other girls. He is able to survive something that others can’t with no drawback (until he has a minuscule drawback because the writer said so, for some reason that makes zero sense.) and obtain an unlimited amount of skills. So why the fuck doesn’t he do that the moment he finds out? He wants to be an adventurer like his childhood friend. He starts out with a seemingly shitty skill… ok, let’s pause for a bit. Am I the only one who is sick of plots that give shitty skills to their protags only to become the best skill in that universe? It’s just so effing lazy. Instead of writing something that would make the protagonist actually use his brain to deal with having a shitty skill, they just turn the mofos into gods. No? Just me? Ok, moving on…
Light, unlike other people, can get unlimited skills by eating skill fruits (yes, people get skills by eating… at least it’s not the tired trope of eating enemies to gain their skill). I’m having problems understanding why he doesn’t stack up on skills the moment he understands his situation. He wants to be the greatest adventurer so what better way to get a variation of skills to be sure to handle the most dangerous situations? His ally even gets a skill that can appraise people and items. Have her appraise the fruits and eat those that have the best skills. Even if she can’t for some reason, getting as much skills as possible isn’t the worst option. You never know what skill could be useful in what situations.
On that subject, the whole skill fruit thing is really half baked. It’s not stated if the fruit awakens something that is already in You or gives You a skill like devil fruits from One Piece. Given later episodes it’s the later but… it that is the case why no one researches them. The skills determine a lot of things in this world, there should be a whole industry dedicated just to them, or at least an R&D dedicated to studying, growing and experimenting on them. At the very least there should be a method of analyzing what skill they give. They have been using them since forever but not one person thought that finding a way to mass produce combat fruit to create an army or maybe finding a way more people would be able to eat more than one before kicking the bucket. This world is just so lazy and full of idiots that it makes it boring. There is very little originality in the whole show and things that are at least interesting are treated like an after though. Also… the fruits are supposed to give skills. “Sword Saint” and “Sword God” are not effing skills, those are titles. Another example of the writer's lack of skill.

Since we’re talking about the skills. It is stated that only someone who has a combat skill can be an adventurer. Why? How? You get one skill that’s more of a trump card or a specialty than something that determines Your whole being. The proof of that is that in episode 7 Light is fighting someone who has an offensive skill related to lightning and still can use martial arts. So it’s not like people are not able to learn things. So why the fuck wouldn’t a Fruitmaster (again… that’s a title not a skill) couldn’t be an adventurer. He could still learn to use weapons and fight. He probably wouldn’t get to S or A rank but he could still take jobs, kill monsters etc. The fact that Light gives up after getting a farming related skill just shows how pathetic his motivation and determination is. He doesn’t want to do anything unless he has an unfair advantage. That’s just a pathetic person in general. We don’t see him train before getting a skill and only once after getting it. He’s just a sad excuse for a protagonist. I don’t find watching the escapades of someone who lacks conviction to be worth my time (but I still watched the whole show so I don’t know what that says about me). Listen, not every protagonist must be likable but he at least should have some traits that make him worthy of following. Light… is just shit.

This show has no story, the plot is basic, it doesn’t have any lessons, morals or even social commentary. It’s just a bland, boring, repetitive piece of amateurish fan fiction.
Well, at least it’s not an isekai.
