Mousou Dairinin

The infamous Shounen Bat is terrorizing the residents of Musashino City. Flying around on his rollerblades and beating people down with a golden baseball bat, the assailant seems impossible to catch—much less understand. His first victim, the well-known yet timid character designer Tsukiko Sagi, is suspected of orchestrating the attacks. Believed only by her anthropomorphic pink stuffed animal, Maromi, Tsukiko is just one of Shounen Bat's many victims.

As Shounen Bat continues his relentless assault on the town, detectives Keiichi Ikari and Mitsuhiro Maniwa begin to investigate the identity of the attacker. However, more and more people fall victim to the notorious golden bat, and news of the assailant begins circulating around the town. Paranoia starts to set in as chilling rumors spread amongst adults and children alike.

Will the two detectives be able to unravel the truth behind Shounen Bat, or will the paranoia get to them first?

What an amazing experience, it has no fear of telling the most f*cked-up stories in such creative ways that somehow manage to make you never feel lost.

It is amazing how it explores social paranoias throughout the whole series, some series fail to keep the plot interesting, some others drown you with information and others don’t explain absolutely anything. This is not the case with Paranoia Agent, from the first episode it’s clear what is the path that the series is going to take, a clear example of escapism from the extremely tidy schedule of 2004 Japan that slowly It’s getting eaten away by technology. ...

This is without talking about the astounding dissection of human mentality that Satoshi Kon does throughout the series.

Mixed Feelings

This show had a great start with a super interesting premise that was never fully executed. They introduce some amazing characters, but then spend SO much time of the anime on other characters that contribute absolutely NOTHING to the overall show. They have their interesting moments but i felt like a pig chasing a carrot watching this show, waiting for answers while not being given anything for the entire middle portion. They do eventually deliver in the last couple of episodes and I think they executed the ending decently well, but I cannot give it higher than a 6 based on the horrendous management of ... the middle portions.

Completely incomprehensible, this anime begins with six episodes centered on a supposed police investigation that lacks coherence. The next six episodes are 'independent' episodes with no connection to the two detectives' investigation, apart perhaps from the urban legend on which the series is trying to capitalize. And even then, they don't add a single new fact or revelation. The story is disappointing, the characters are bland, and the choice to mix designs that don't go together sometimes spoils certain scenes even more. In short, this anime doesn't even have the merit of being a complete 12-episode series, preferring to add more episodes for no good ... reason, other than to claim a legitimacy it doesn't have. If the story can't be properly adapted into at least 12 episodes, then it probably doesn't deserve to be adapted at all. This represents an immeasurable waste of time, both for me and certainly for the creators too.
I'd advise everyone against wasting their time watching it!
