I really enjoyed Season 1 and was excited for Season 2 but...

Most of the existing Characters got very little focus or development, and the episode that was devoted to fleshing out Beelzebul was a disappointment. Almost the entire season one one off episodes introducing a new character, dealing with their problem, and then saying goodbye.

For me the enjoyable part of the first season was the building and sharing a family vibe. But here the family is mostly ignored and nothing is built upon.

I'd give a third season a try because season 1 was so fun and the visual quality stays up, but ... I doubt that will happen.

I loved season one, so I was excited for season two and had hoped for more of the same, but I was warned it wasn't as good and I thought even if it was just average I'd be okay with it, but season two doesn't even manage to reach those levels.

After finishing this season I knew it was bad, I just couldn't quite put my finger on why it is so bad, so I had to go back to season one and what made that so good.
With Season One we have encountered all of our main cast by episode 5, and they folded into the ... family and everyone comes along for the ride, with the exception of Flatorte who formally joins in episode 7. So there is a focus on the main cast, on the 'family' and that included Beelzebub who was firmly part of the main cast which creates the main vibe of the series. There was also enough of a thread of a plotline to hold much of the events together which allows the episodes to flow into each other and keeps everything connected. This allows for the relaxed tone of the series without it becoming dull.

So where did Season Two go wrong? It disconnected us from our main cast, sure we have parts of the cast present but the entire main cast is not together enough and it was that chemistry that made the heart of the series, so without it we're floundering. Instead Season Two wants to bring in a raft of new characters, but the issue is that they don't stay long, they come, they go, they reappear, and we're being bombarded with so many new characters we don't know who we should care about. Less is more, and that is forgotten here, there are just too many of these new characters, they don't have enough screen time for us to actually care about them, and the time spent on all these characters could have been better spent with the main cast who keep getting neglected and forgotten, give us more Laika, give us more Beelzebub, make the main cast part of the story, have them along for the ride and not ignore them for characters that are only in it for an episode or two.

The other issue is things feel very disjointed, there is no connecting line, nothing that ties everything together and the pace feels a bit off, there are episodes where nothing much happens and while this is supposed to be a slow life anime you still need to have something there to give it balance, the end result is that for the most part the series feels dull.
Season One had an interconnecting plot line that ran through it, the episodes were connected by events, with Season Two this is abandoned, so as said it feels disjointed, it is very episodic in nature, there are a few episodes where things do carry over, but there is no plotline to this season, no reason to keep watching from episode to episode, it felt like the story was forgotten and it was just a bunch of unconnected events that happen because each episode needs something even if that something feels like them scraping the barrel.
That is not to say it doesn't have its good moments, but there is so much 'fluff' so much about it that is mediocre that it is hard to care about what is going on. I found myself becoming disinterested in events frequently that this season was just hard to watch, it felt like an absolute slog to get through, there were times I just didn't want to watch it anymore and I just had to stop watching for a week or two before I felt ready to pick it up again.

The end result is that not only is this season a disappointment with a huge stark difference between this and season one, but it is just bad. It is not terrible, it does have some good moments but for the most part it is mediocre and at other times it is just dull.
I wish this was average, I would have enjoyed average, but this level of mediocre makes it a waste of time to watch
