Same feels and void. Both have really good character developments for main male MC. Similar kind of lesson too. As a character, i think female MC in Shigatsu is better than Nagisa. And I think that the story progression in Shigatsu is a tad better. I would say Shigatsu is kind of slow but if you enjoyed the pacing of Clannad, then it won't be considered slow. Beautiful soundtracks in Shigatsu also. Another difference is the seriousness in Clannad usually progresses. In Shigatsu it sometimes gets cut off by some gag humour. But when Shigatsu has to be serious, it does it really well.
It will wreck you emotionally after making you laugh for most of the series. The cast of characters in both series are not groundbreaking, but how they interact to shape the story (and make you laugh) is what make each anime shine.
If you were to combine Clannad and Nodame Cantabile, I think you'd have a pretty close approximation to Shigatsu~.
Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso and Clannad: After Story are similar in several ways.
Both of these series all build up to a point where the events are dramatic and emotional, as this is seen in the transition from the first half to the second half of the series, along with some comedies time to time. As the story progresses, you start to feel strong emotions within both of these series. With the steady pacing, the main characters develop a lot together.
Stories about love and hardships, both are filled with emotion evoking drama and tragedy. Main characters try to overcome their past as they face many barriers, hurdles, and hardships. With the help of their main love interest, they try their best to open up a new life in their lives.
May require some boxes of tissue. *sniff *sniff
It's easy to draw parallels between Clannad and Shigatsu. In both, there's a protagonist who doesn't really have a direction in life anymore, with a dead mother and a father who neglects him; while the female lead has a terminal illness and parents who run a bakery.
When the two meet each other, their view of life changes, similar to Okazaki and Nagisa. However, you could say that Kaori's personality is the polar opposite of Nagisa. Both are great anime with beautiful soundtracks.
For me, the first episode was lame, although needed for the fast introduction of the characters. Once you are drawn into the story it becames a masterpiece. Your lie in April is a Slow paced anime that has a character development similar to clannad, hosting a MC which is very traumatized about his past, making it difficult for him to move on. For those who didnt reach the message in the beggining, it all becames very clear in the end. This was quite a ride.
Both series are emotional rollercoasters that beautifully execute their dramatic narratives and character arcs without going way over the top and becoming a cringe-worthy melodrama (looking at you Anohana)
- both male MC are greatly developed as the series goes on
- both female MC had a strong character supporting both male MC
- both female MC had frail body or some kind of illnesses
- both series serves kind of Feels Trip
- both OST are top notch and match the situations, totally worth to have them in your playlist
somehow Clannad AS often gets more into seriousness, while shigatsu gives a mediocore dose of humour
Ok, right off the bat, both are beautiful series with sad moments and tear jerking endings. Both series hold a lot of meaning in them and depending on what kind of person you are, these series can really touch your heart. There are really good life lessons that can actually be learned from both of these series. Both anime contain beautiful soundtracks and really good development for its characters, especially its main male characters. While Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso contains more humor than Clannad, it still does the job well of hitting you with feels. I must warn you that if you are one that hates slow pacing, then I highly suggest that you avoid both of these anime as both of them are rather slow paced. However in my opinion, that's the beauty of these two series and if you like the pacing of Clannad, then most likely you'll enjoy the pacing of Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso. Overall, both series deserve a chance and who knows, it could be life-changing for you. But then again, that's just my opinion. (Note: I almost forgot to mention that be sure to watch Clannad before you watch Clannad: After Story as Clannad is a very important prequel before the emotional After Story.) read more
-Both have the school-theme
-Both have lovely characters that u start liking really quickly
-Both have a cute love story that unravels the potential of the main character
and...
Feels...damm dem feels
Both anime's pretty much some of the saddest anime's out there. Your Lie in April is just 25 episode so it is quicker leader up compare to Clannad which is 2 season 40 plus episodes that build up to some of the tear jerky plot. Both should be watch in dark room with no one around.
they arent similar at all not even in tags: Clannad :Slice of Life but (your lie in april): is about music both are sweet and good to follow , in my opinion Clannad is a little bit boring Shigatsu is way better its about Music but they both share a sad ending after all its up you guys . Dudera (ClannadS1&S2)
-Both deal with the main character having to go through losses of people he cares about
-In both, the main character is kind of reformed (Tomoya from a delinquent and Kousei from his trauma of playing the piano) by the main heroine
-In both, despite being able to predict depressing events, they still are extremely saddening to watch
Both shows has amazing character development for their male protagonist's.
Both shows has amazing soundtrack's.
Both shows leaves you with a sad/void feeling.
Both shows has pretty slow story progression.
Clannad After Story and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso both hit you with the feels hard and often. They both have a lot of comedic moments as well. Both stories are about overcoming barriers in life. Both male MC's develop a lot through the anime with the help of the female MC. Both female MCs are "out of this world," although through different ways, and both help their respect male MCs to see the world differently. Also, both female MCs are fragile and have illness and also have bakery shop owning parents.
Both are dramas, romance, and sad. Both have compelling stories and great character development. Your Lie In April is far better, the only big difference is that Your Lie in April is very music oriented, but that's about it.
Both series are masterfully executed, one demonstrating the value of family and the other demonstrating the value of friendship. Out of all the heartbreaking anime I have watched, these two stand as the definitive tearjerkers amongst all the rest. They both contain remarkably strong soundtracks, perhaps the greatest I've ever heard, and outstanding character development of the protagonist. A common theme established in both works of art is the devastation and despair that is accompanied with loneliness, and the conviction that one individual is capable of changing another's ideologies and lifestyle for the better.
Both series involve comedy, drama, romance and a story that will tear your heart in two. The characters are relatable and 3D. Whenever there is an upsetting moment in either, I was left distraught mainly because of how the other characters felt and how easy it was to empathise with them.
In terms of soundtrack, both are astounding. Both of the openings fit perfectly with the shows and good in their own rights. The OSTs for both are spectacular in their own, unique ways. Clannad involves music that will make the scenes even more of a tear-jerker. Whereas Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso has a many genres of music within the OST, which fits the show.
I chose After Story, rather than the original Clannad series, because of the way it makes you cry or at least want to. Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso is very similar in that way.  read more
Both MC's deal with trauma from their past until one day a girl comes into their lives and seemingly changes them for the better. There's heavily relatable characters whom have to struggle with overcoming their grief. Lastly, both series are just incredibly sad and probably will leave you a mess.
I couldn't stop my tear drops after completing this series ... Really , it's a masterpiece. It's pretty similar to " Your Lie in April " too based on story processing , love , romance, emotions, school life etc. But remember, if you want to get the complete feelings and emotions of this series , then you have to watch " Clannad " first and it's a must to all of you. At last I want to tell you that , don't even dare to die before watching this series. If you do that, then you will regret for it later and I can give 100% assurance of that to all of you for that. Really, man....I'm in love to this series...!!!!
Best of the luck....Arigato read more
Both of these anime mainly focuses on the aspect of the distress the world can give you. Basically it gives both of the m.c's the meaning of love, and being love, and being able to deal with the outcome.
Dealing with unresolved feelings is hard. Whist in Shigatsu there's a lot of emphasis on the "how" it's done after the damage has taken place, Clannad (and :After Story) is overall a better journey through the beginning, middle and end.
Two stories of life lessons where the main girl try to achieve a goal in her life, overcoming sufferings that we all can relate to. Unique soundtracks, touching story, amazing world building, spectacular character development and a conclusive end, that can't ever be forgotten. Two wholesome stories that has everything to change someone's life. Oh, prepare the tissues. A lot of them.
Both anime start of light-hearted and funny, but as they progress they become a lot more dramatic. By the end you will most likely be an emotional wreck so be careful going into these anime. Both Tomoya (Clannad) and Kousei (YLIA) have no direction in life until they meet Nagisa (Clannad) and Kaori (YLIA) who give them a reason to keep going. It is around the second half of each anime that the tone shifts and they transition from comedy to drama. They are both two of my favourites, Clannad being #1. So if you like one you'll most likely like the other as they share a lot of similarities. Be sure to watch Clannad before Clannad: after story (It is worth the wait). read more
These two are similar but also very different. They are both amazing animes. Personally, I prefer Clannad AS. They both deal with kinda heavy topics. Both male MCs are really good and the development is clear as day for both of them. - Make sure to watch both of them because they are both amazing
As a person who loves dramatic anime, I am almost certain that there is no better than them in the world of sad drama. They both deceive you with a calm and comedic beginning, but in the end they make you feel all kinds of sadness, especially Clannad which is considered as the best dramatic anime on the global level and even your lie in April is on top I recommend both

Both of them deceive you with a calm and comedic start, but in the end they make you feel all kinds of sadness, especially Clannad, which is considered as the best dramatic anime on the global level, and even your lie in April is on top
Your Lie in April deeply explores the human feeling with some moments of struggle and suffering, as well as love for life, by making use of stunning visual art depicting Japanese suburbs, something which I similarly found also in Clannad: After Story.
Both will make you cry with their tales of love and loss. With the help of a supernatural force, the characters learn to cope with their grief and accept the fate of their situations.
I have a feeling that Ano Hana is like Clannad in the making. Maybe the atmosphere they give off? Anyway, both are awesome (so far Ano Hana is doing good). Quite the drama too. And yeah, both have deaths in it.
Both stories involve strong romance and friendship. They'll rip out your heart, throw it against the wall, and step on it without giving you the chance to grab the box of tissues. And it will probably do it several times. If you like one, you'll like the other. Just be sure to have the box of tissues ready beforehand.
When watching Ano Hana, it gave off the same atmosphere as After Story. They both involve a group of friends and love between two that ends tragically. There is a lot of drama in both and they will also make you cry. Ano Hana was the only anime too make me cry since I watched After Story, and that was a couple years ago. They are both amazing shows that will captivate you to want more because you finished them in a day.
Both of these anime unlocked the gate to my eternal manly feels. If you love a good old masculine cry, then these two anime are similar in that aspect. I suggest you do not watch Clannad: After Story before watching Clannad, so if you want a small one-night feels anime, watch Ano Hana. Both of these anime intentionally make the audience cry. If you bottle up your feels, you may find trouble enjoying either of these.
Dramatic plot development that feature friendship, family, using a small bit of supernatural plot device. You will undoubtedly encounter some intense catharsis along the way of watch both.
Lemme get one thing straight. Clannad After Story and AnoHana (abbreviation) will make you cry your little anime-loving eyes out just by how good story is.
Now here are some examples why they are similar:
1. Drama
Lots and lots of DRAMA. Yup.
2. The Atomosphere
You have a kinda heavy atomosphere that gets light hearted at some points.
3. Friends
Friends are not as close as they are after an event.
They're both deal with some type of loss and the struggles that come with it. Anohana will definitely have an impact on you mentally and physically, that is if you do start bawling. Also, the concept of strengthening their bonds with one another is definitely there. Oh, but I personally believe that anohana gives a bigger impact than clannad.
Well first of all, they both made me really sad and teary ;~;.
They both involve death, and love. They also have a triangle relationship between the main character, his lover, and his childhood friend. (Sorry, not really accurate! Trying to not give spoilers).
They both have fantastic artwork.
They are both rated 10/10 in my personal anime list!
If you enjoyed Clannad I'm sure you'd love AnoHana.
Clannad Afterstory is the sequel (second season) of Clannad. What makes it similar to Ano Hana is that they both utilize drama and emotions to their fullest potential. These are tales of love and family, friendship and loss, that will take you on a roller coaster of emotions as you walk with the characters from the first episode to the last.
Both shows utilize their soundtracks and music super well to support particular scenes appropriately and to convey a message. There are also minor touches of the supernatural used to support the story, yet make the shows unique in their own ways. These are both shows that I wish I can re-watch from scratch without any memory of it! Because the journey was simply phenomenal and once-in-a-lifetime like!  read more
For me, at least, the only downside to Clannad: After Story was that is did indeed have to come to an end, leaving a void that simply could not be filled by lighter-hearted fair. Anohana was the show that broke the Post-Clannad void for me. I can sincerely recommend both shows for anyone with the desire to cry literal buckets of tears (unless your heart is a brick).
Though this story is rather different from Clannad. It has the same level of emotion. I'd say it's like as if someone where to condense Clannd into 11 episodes, it would give you Anohana. It's basically a story about Friendship, rather than Romance, which, I feel touches a wider audience, and the backlash of losing something (or someone -spoliers-) who you hold dear. After watching Clannad, and you feel like finding an anime to fill in that void, look no further, because Anohana, WE FOUND YOU!
Both anime have a very strong sense of drama, and both stories feature an exceptional power to hit the viewer in the feelings. They can make you laugh, smile, and cry - as you find yourself to be in an emotional rollercoaster.
You will probably cry watching both shows.
good anime about life, friendship, and love.
focused on one male lead charter who helps his female lead character.
both anime has a great set of supporting cast of friends to help the lead charters develop, while they themselves develop in the process.
If you feel a empty place in your heart after Clannad After Story and you're looking to fill that place with an anime that will gave you the same feeling then I can only think of one anime that's on the same level: Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai. Even if at first they give a different impression, both series explore similar themes like family, friendship, loss and forgiveness and they're more related that you'd think.
Same feels and void to both anime. Impeccable character development to a very 'human' cast. In both series the protagonist is a generally unhappy person, whether its because he has lost someone, or he is generally unhappy with his life. Finally, they both have supernatural elements, which influences the story.
Both are tearjerkers.
Both are tragic love stories full loss. Supernatural forces are involved as the main character struggles to deal with the pain.
Both shows are absolute masterpieces, Clannad is longer and has more development whereas Anohana is short but doesn't fail to make you cry. If you like one, you will love the other.
Both shows will hit you at an emotional level. I'd recommend Clannad to anyone, but I can only recommend Anohana if you have a very high tolerance for overdone melodrama. If you like your drama to have a sense of reality and elegance instead of having the show shove obnoxious and unjustified crying down your throat, then I would not recommend it. If you just want to turn your brain off and enjoy good animation, amazing music (especially the ending theme like oh my god it's so good), and formulaic tugs at your heart strings, then I highly recommend Anohana.
Both have emotional stories and while at first, they both have unrelatable characters turn out to be really good and highly memorable. Both will have tear-jerking moments. This may be a controversial comment, but I cried more for Anohana, and unlike the Clannad series where you have to go through 44 episodes, Anohana only takes 11, so it is at least worth the watch.
Clannad: After Story and Anohana are both very emotional anime's. They are both in the genre of slice of life. The characters in each deal with happiness, confusion and loss. They can be very exciting and happy at times and at other times it is extremely sad. There is death in each anime where the other characters have to learn how to deal with their deaths. They go through Denial, Anger, Depression, and Acceptance. I believe that these anime's are very similar and if you liked one of these you should try watching the other. They are both very good anime's. read more
If Clannad: After Story had you in tears like me and you're looking for something else to crush your feelings look no further than AnoHana. A memorable tale of friendship and romance that vividly highlights the struggles of getting over the death of a childhood friend, and how it can affect the lives of everyone they knew. Very touching and twice as beautiful if you can relate to the feeling of loosing a close friend...
Both of these series will make you cry like a baby that is really all you need to know. If you need a anime to fill the void from Clannad watch this. You wont be disappointed.
-DRAMA/SUPERNATURAL Good combo
-Both got strong romance and friendship
-Both protagonists had been forced to accept the fate of one character
-Crazy good climax scene on both anime
-Clannad:AS require you to watch the first one to get the maximum output of the scene significantly while anohana are easier to watch but it's not as good as clannad:AF ( but it's still good )
I found Anohana to nicely explore the afterlife through a slice of life genre by also offering deep emotions, something which I similarly found again in the same way in Clannad:After Story.
They are both set where the characters are in a highschool. Both are funny heartwarming and tear-jerking. The storyline with both drags you in and you cannot stop watching untill the last seconds of the last episode. They are also both made by Key, who are well known for their amazing anime. If you loved Clannad and Clannad: After story, you will love Angel Beats. Now go watch, Laugh and cry.
Both of these anime are from the same anime company and both have a similar feel (mix of comedy and serious elements). They also share a powerful theme that is incredibly touching :)
The ending more or less gave me the almost same bitter sweet ending. Its one of those animes in which you kinda dont wish it to end but it kinda has to. Yes, it made me tear up, try it!
Both visual novels are made by the company visual art's/key.
Audience would love every character in both animes through the incredible back stories.
Both contain extremely emotional tear jerking scenes as well as well-placed humor.
Both animes contain the motif of love across dimensions.
This story is originally wrote by the same guy. If you liked clannad you like this. The story is a little hard to get your head around at first but if you pull through the first couple episodes you will see the same comedy and ideals that were in clannad in angel beats! The story will touch you just as clannad did and even make you think about your own life. You may not cry as much but there are some pretty sad events here too
Angel Beats! and Clannad, both have the nice Slice of Life and fantasy mix in them, obviously Angel Beats! has a lot less slice of life, but those back story for the main characters is amazing. It is a lot like Clannad as they both have the depressing factor in them, The only real difference is Angel Beats! is not so romance/drama based. I highly recommend both, now go watch em'
First of all, Clannad: After Story and Angel Beats! are both made by the same studios: Key. With that in mind, much of the art work, story, music and characters will have the same sort of emotional feel to them. People who enjoyed Clannad will definitely love Angel Beats! and vise versa. While there are many similarities, none are exactly easy to spot in the beginning. There is a significant time skip between the making of Clannad and Angel Beats! for the art to have changed. Both create an emotional setting that cannot be ignored.
These two series have same writer and can both invoke a whole mix of emotions. Both also have awesome OSTs. Angel Beats has really solid character development, and I was interested in all of the characters' stories. After Story did however lack a little and that will probably get me some flack, but I'll explain. In Clannad, they had AMAZING character development where you really got to know all the characters. But in After Story, it's just like "See ya everyone! Time to focus on Nagisa and Tomoya!" I really didn't care for that because Sunohara, Kyou, Tomoyo were all really well-done characters. What I didn't really understand was why waste the time of making the viewers interested in the other characters, only to pretty much just cut them out in After Story. read more
They both are verry sad and they are made with a lot of heart.
Clannad made me look on life in a different way.
Angel beats is the same. It also made me look on life in a other angle.
Watch theese to animes if you like sad stories who has a lot of work behind it!
one last thing.
Be prepared to cry

Both anime are made by Key, and will pull at your heart strings. Both anime have wonderful soundtracks and endings, and will leave you with tears in your eyes.
While this gets more mysterious, it is still similar to the first season. It feels more "melodic" than its predecessor and is a fantastic addition to the first season. I laughed sometimes, not as often as in the first season.
Again, it is similar in charisma, character style and the fun factor is high.
If you want to cry more after Clannad, you should watch Angel Beats because both anime have a lot of sadness an funny moments. And also have good ending for both anime.
-Both are very emotional
-Both deal with characters that have had something taken from them or with some sort of tragic backstory
-Both have hilarious comedy
-Both have a rare combination of the genres 'slice of life' and 'fantasy'
Both have comedy reliefs between the drama (if they didn't have this, I would make suicide) but the drama in the two is so big that it's imposible to not feel sad. The two made good reflectings about life and how harsh it can be.
Characters in both are lovable, and the most important is that their suffering is yours.
Eveyone, close your eyes. Now, imagine that you have just died. As you slowly open your eyes, you see a place. What would that place look like? Where would you be? Is it . . . the after-life?!
This is exactly what happens to Otonashi Yuzuru, the main protagonist of Angel Beats. But, he finds himself walking in a rather common place—a school! Strangely enough, it's a school where the students are battling an angel who's trying to put them all to rest.
Thinking with a jumbled-up mind, this place really be confused with the place known as the after-life. What's with the weird souls (students) and the infamous angel? And, is there any reason for the battle? All of these questions shall soon be answered in Angel Beats!
Mind you, even with the lighthearted theme and the much-anticipated funny scenes, you might just find your tears falling down as you dig in deeper into the plot. read more
Want another dose of sadness then this is one of the best shots, with a very good story progression. I can't say much more about this than watching Clannad then After Story, kinda speechless of how good this anime is.
Both shows focus on young adults dealing with different forms of trauma in different ways, both shows have very similar tones, and they both have very similar MCs.
I don't know what you are looking for but if you are looking for an anime which is damn sad and also a little bit romantic, includes high school student, then I would recommend Angel Beats. Both them are sad and consists of high school students, it(Angel Beats) has romance but not in the level of Clannad, if you understand.
But still I would recommend people to watch this show.
Both stories are about the joys and pain of falling in love throughout their lives from high school to marriage. The concept of family is realistically strong from both of them & characters will face the trials of hardships and sadness. Though this is more lighthearted.
I'm most definitely NOT comparing Itazura na Kiss to the legendary Clannad series. It is a sin to do so.
But the story is somewhat similar. Both high school students get married, and their 'after marriage' story is shown. Both husband and wife face perils and soon have a baby. The plot is somewhat similar, but Clannad is much, MUCH more than just a simple plot. It's a world of extreme emotion, dedication, love and bonds. It's a sad world.
Compared to it, Itazura can be laughed off. Itazura is not a serious series unlike Clannad.
Those who've watched Itazura but not Clannad...see the magnanamous difference between the two series with a similar plot, and get a box of tissues ready as well.
Those who've watched Clannad already...well, Itazura's a good joke. read more
They both show the life of the couple not only in school, but also after it: in University, at work, at home. Different steps which are made by the characters in their life: graduation, marrige, baby-birth, quarrelins and problems of family life.
Amazing story, great art.
Rarely do you see what actually happens after, boy gets girl, or girl gets boy!
Well in both shows you get to see what happens after boy and girl becomes a couple!
Both the shows is about maturing, and growing up! All the obstacles and hardship of not only their relationship but LIFE itself! The strong bond the couples have in these two animes are also a huge similarity!
The feeling and the romance is the same. It also is the type of romance that doesn't stop after they get together, they also show the; dating, the hardships and the marriage. The only difference is that Clannad After Story is more tragic romance and Itazura Na Kiss is comedy romance. But still both were amazing animes, I recommend any of these two animes if you love romance.
What, there is life after high school? After love? After Marriage? Even after Kids?!!! Who comes up with this stuff.
Though the feeling of these two series is different, they both share the honor of having plots deeper than simple romance. Also they both have a balance between comedy and drama.
It goes past just school life and into there adult life's which must other romance anime don't. It also has similair events which happen in Itazura na Kiss which also happens in clannad after story.
I will almost never compare any anime to Clannad:After Story but Itazura na kiss is an exemption. Both series brake the cliche in romance and show what life is about. After Story is of course the superior out of the 2, it's more serious drama, and while Itazura na Kiss has its share of drama is more of a comedic-type anime.
These shows are similar in the sense that they show the couples before and after marriage. However, Clannad After Story is on a completely different Level then Itazura na Kiss. Clannad is much more serious and deep compared Itazura na kiss. Secondly Nagisa in many ways reminds me of Kotoko. They both have a lot of tenacity and determination even in the face of almost certain failure. Although the shows aren't very similar I would still make the recommendation since they cover the after marriage side of a relationship.
Both feature a romantic relationship and it's challenges beyond marriage. While clannad digs deeper in tragedy, drawing you in to the characters slowly and finally they throw you into lava only to pull you back out again. Itazura No Kiss takes a different approach, focusing more on the developement of each character as a person. Both are slice of life while clannad features a bit of a fantasyish twist.
At the end having watched both anime I can pretty much say-
Itazura na kiss is a bit more light hearted, and brings out a kind of warm hearty laugh. Don't get me wrong it can be harsh as the female mc has it rough. There were times that I wished that I could go in there and beat the mc with a baseball bat. Not because he's dense but because he isn't honest with himself, to the point were you wonder how the female mc puts up with it.(I personally feel amazed at her inhuman patience) However in the end because of that you will let out a warm hearted laugh all the more.
Clannad AS on the other hand is going to rip you're heart out of you're chest, make you cry(Might wanna leave the windows open to let the water out) and then fix you up making the world right again.(That scar will still be there though for the most part) One thing I need to mention is that to get the most out of both anime you need to watch the entire thing through and through. Don't get off the emotional rolercoaster even if you feel it's to much. Especially Clannad AS. From my experience people will drop Clannad AS when it hit's the peak and let me tell you if you don't get to the end of the ride you will feel all that much worse. read more
If you think Clannad: After Story is too emotional for you, but love the story, then watch Itazura na Kiss. While there are a lot of anime that revolve around the relationship between 2 people or even explore the relationship, these are the only 2 anime I've ever seen take a simple relationship so far. The big difference is that Itazura na Kiss is incredibly light hearted.
If you like Clannad, you definitely have to watch Kanon, since it's the predecessor and a true masterpiece.
It's similar in many ways, but it can score with great characters, great comedy, cuteness, tear breaking drama, overflowing happiness and some really really fantastic and intelligent story arcs.
School life, slice of life anime based on a visual novel. Male protagonist gets to know the backgrounds and histories of several girls at his school in successive arcs (the only way that an anime based on a visual novel can be done). Helps them through their problems, and deals with his own in the process.
Both series are very touching. Storylines are a really masterpiece. Some comedy and some drama makes that shows really enjoyable. Both Clannad~After Story~ and Kanon 2006 have brilliant music and art, also in characters behaviour we can notice a lot of similarities.
Both of these animes brought Happiness, Sadness, Anger and Hope successfully to the audience, both with relatable characters and true to life scenarios (Kanon's a little more supernatural though)
If you've seen Kanon you know what to expect with Clannad Afterstory and vice versa. Neither of these series are afraid to sacrifice main characters. Both of them have multiple, ongoing story arcs and both of them are quite sad stories until the last few episodes. Afterstory is much more similar to Kanon than Clannad the original series was mainly because Afterstory had much less of a focus on comedy and more on the drama that unfolded after the first series was over.
If you liked Clannad, you will also appreciate Kanon which is also produced by Keys. Both animes are similar in animation style, music, character design and a nice emotional story.
The lead male characters in both animes are of similar type, they go out of their way to see the smiles of others (especially people closes to them). So if you liked all he orinal aspect of Clannad you will definitely love Kanon (2006).
sadness and the out of nowhere endings(which I will not spoil!l) are very similar.these are two of my favorite anime and they are made by the same people :) I would also recommend Air.
First of all, both of these titles were done by KyoAni, have heart-warming, and breaking moments, and can truly change your outlook on life. After I finished watching Afterstory, it almost felt like I didn't know what to do with myself. I wanted more, even though I knew it was over, I couldn't help but feel sad at the fact that there was no more to watch. But Kanon is the perfect solution to this problem, because it is probably the closest thing to Clannad that can be found, and is even considered better by some people, maybe even you. Really though, if you've recently finished Afterstory and are feeling somewhat empty, then get on this show, it is far too good to miss. read more
Both originally created by Key, known for it's illustrious 0_0 animation designs . Both have somewhat of a familiar Harem setting, romance, school life, and a final touch of the unexpected supernatural element, that makes them very similar . A fluctuation of tears of joy, and tears of grief with mind-blowing endings in both of them .
Kanon is pretty much the Predecessor of Clannod
Same company, same design style, similar story
If you like Clannad or Kanon you need to check the other out!
Both Clannad and Kanon are adaptations of key visual novels. They are also both made by Kyoto Animations. Both these series are full of good characters and super sad moments. Although I think Clannad: After Story is better, I urge you to give Kanon a try. If you enjoyed Clannad, you will most likely enjoy Kanon
Made by the same people. Same artstyle & themes.
Has a TON of similarities, you'll see a lot characters behaving/looking the exact same as Clannad's. Some tracks made me wonder if it wasn't re-used by Clannad.
Touching story and tearjerking music. Kanon is pretty much a discount Clannad imo.
As a fellow *KEY anime*. Same Authors, Similar situations but different Endings. I really recommend all those who watched Little Busters Refrain to watch Clannad After story (Although I recommend the the opposite direction with percaution: don't get angry while watching Refrain!)
Also, both shows need tissues.
They are recommended for all the family, especially teens and post teens.
As you've probably already heard. Little Busters! ~Refrain~ is basically the "After Story" to the main story.
"Key" - the visual novel studio that created Clannad also created Little busters, Jun Maeda who also wrote after story wrote refrain. Did I mention that Maeda admitted that Refrain is the pinnacle of his work, and that he won't ever top it?
If you cried during after story, you will be reminded of that pain while watching refrain.
As a fellow *KEY anime*. Same Authors, Similar situations but different Endings. I really recommend all those who watched Little Busters Refrain to watch Clannad After story (Although I recommend the the opposite direction with percaution: don't get angry while watching Refrain!)

Clannad: After Story and Little Busters!: Refrain are both the sequels anime adaptations of Visual Novels written by Key
They both focus on the "true" or "main" arc of the story, which essentially ties together the story and gives importance to the previous story arcs, and does a great job of giving development to the main cast after their more lighthearted and comedic prequels.
Each of them are more dramatic than their previous seasons, have more romance, and are primarily written by Jun Maeda.
They each have traditional themes from Key, and these sequels solidify the themes developed throughout the entire story in the form of a climactic experience. Any fan of one story should give the other a chance.

Both are sequels to Key adaptations and (while I don't know how the story of Refrain will go yet) they are generally accepted as much better than their prequels. Both series have a mix of comedy and drama though After Story gets much heavier on the drama aspects. Clannad has a large emphasis on "family" in a similar way that Little Busters has a large emphasis on "friends."
Little Busters: Refrain is the sequel to Little Busters, like After Story is the sequel to Clannad. They're both pretty great and better sequels that complete the story in an emotional and climactic way!
Another visual novel by Key, almost as tear-jerking with somewhat different style and theme. They are always compared by people who watch both. Still, the knowledge from first season of LB! is needed.
-Both are a very dramatic storys
-Both have a unexpected conclusion
-Both are a comedy/school at first season and turn into drama/romance at final season
These two are so simiilar. A sequel which outclasses the previous season and both have romance. It now turns into bonds and relationships. Not to mention they're the only two anime from KEY which made me cry. They create a strong and confusing plot which then gets connection every episode until you later on understand everything. They're mostly about solving personal problems which hold huge purpose. What makes these so great is how you can relate to these problems. These take a huge step into a great supernatural anime which is perfectly done. They deal with life, death and other conflicts. Recommend both without any problems. read more
This is probably one of the most similar anime I've seen. Following their prequels, these two seasons both turn realistic, darker and gain more depth. They both have some tiny supernatural elements and the endings leave you with the same type of feeling. They make you cry and they make you laugh. Be sure to watch the prequels. Apart from that, definitely worth a watch!
Really like how Clannad ended? Well you'll like Little Busters!: Refrain, too! The previous seasons for both held some questions and were relatively uneventful, but it all leads to a surprising turn of events in the end. At first I thought that these animes had the same creator, but then I got lazy and didn't research it. All in all, they both relatively have the same feeling through their plot phases.
Made by Master Jun Maeda. So many emotions and attachment to the characters. Excellent music like Clannad. A lot of resemblance to a totally different story.
The emotional scenes in Little Busters are quite same as the Clannad after story. Despite their stories are different, the main character who lacks something compared to others but still tries to move on from his horrible experience thanks to the people around him.
- Family.
- Responsibility.
- Coming to terms with taking care of a child.
- Heartwarming.
- Slice-of-life, comedy, drama.
- Good parent/guardian.
- Adorable daughter.
While Clannad After Story is not entirely about raising a child, it does spend a significant amount of time developing its adolescent character. If you liked the parent concept in After Story then you will enjoy Usagi Drop as the entire show is about what it's like to be a parent. Both anime display great emotions that will make you both happy and sad throughout the journey.
Anime that tell a story about how a single 20-30-year-old man raise a very young child alone. Both stories take audience through the hard yet satisfying trip known as parenthood.
Usagi Drop is also about a single guardian raising a child, and it has a similar feel to it. The stories are both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
Both focus on the challenges it takes as a single parent to become a blissful family after tragedy of some type, though Clannad 2nd season can be grim and not for the light hearted. Clannad 2nd season's main focus is more drama and romance for the beginning majority as well. Although both do have very enjoyable prevailing slice of life theme too. Excellent voice acting for both series.
If you can't get enough of the cuteness of raising a little girl, you should definitely watch the other. In both series, a single father starts to raise a cute girl around 5 years old. Both fathers go through significant character development after taking on their new roles. The challenges and emotions of this are portrayed heavily.
Be warned though, Clannad: After Story has a lot more drama and tragedy. Usagi Drop is a happy walk in the part by comparison.
This anime has some of the same the father-daughter cuteness going for it.
The main characters both learn and grow a lot from the beginning to the end of both shows.
Once you, personally, have finished both of these shows, you feel as if you know more about yourself and what you value most in life. :)
Both have as main theme the importance of family, especially the parenthood. How both shows portray the way of the main characters of fighting to grow up a child is superb in their own way, while Clannad: After Story is extremely dramatic and a truly masterpiece, in contrast with the kind slice of life pacing of Usagi Drop.
Remember to watch Clannad first.
In the latter half of Clannad After Story specifically. Both anime follow an estranged protagonist with troubles stemming from their past. In Clannad the protagonist struggles from recent trauma; whereas Usage Drop's protagonist, volunteering as acting guardian for an ostracized child relative, finds love and purpose for his old melancholy chapter of life to bloom into something much more beautiful. Both focus on the idea of familiarity and love. All while having great comedic moments accompanying great emotional resonance.
DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED CLANNAD: AFTER STORY
If you liked the last part of Clannad after the turning point, you will really like Usagi drop. The entire anime is about the interactions of the two characters in a unique way for most anime. However for the most part where Clannad had a heavy sense of regret and sadness in it, Usagi Drop is much more light hearted, although still relatively serious discussing some topics about how children treat each other, and later on how adults treat each other too. The specials weren't bad either, even though they were to short to get any real story or meaning into. They did give some happy scenes between the two main characters. read more
Both the shows deals with an adult raising a child. While usagi drop is a light hearted show whereas clannad after story is very dark. The setting in clannad after story is different but the premise is same. But beware of you wish for an ending that feels good then don't watch clannad after story. The hardship faced by a working adult while raising a child is shown in both the anime's.
Although at the beginning of CLANNAD ~After Story~, it starts off as mostly a comedy, it gets much more deeper. They both have the same pain of losing the person you love, have the same feelings and emotions. To be honest, Tomoya reminded me of Takaki in the way they dealed with everything. They also both have absolutely beautiful backgrounds, although 5 cm Per Second's was a bit more detailed. and the last thing, they both make you want to cry.
if you like the beauty, reality and saddness of life like 5 Centimeters, Clannad ~After Story~ will be truely wonderful. (It's best if you watch the Clannad first, but not necessary)
Two lifelike series full of drama, watching them will make your eye on life more clear. The creators show us the ordeals anyone could have experienced or will experience: first love, disenchantment of one's life, death of one's dear people. I like these series for their kindness and warmth. If you happen to watch them, i suggest you start with "5cm" to enter "C:AS" in appropriate mood; after having a small depression ravine when you finish the first one you should feel clarification at the end of the second. Also, you'll have the possibility of enjoying two top notch drawing animes in a row. read more
Those searching for a bitersweet romance need not look further than these two animes. Both feature amazing animation, a superb soundtrack, and characters that will make your heart melt. Both can easily be considered among the best romance anime of all time.
If you enjoyed Clannad: After Story, then you'll enjoy Byousoku 5 Centimeter's similar heart-crushing (but still somehow beautiful) story that doesn't offer anything to make you feel better afterward. Both shows leave the viewer with that heavy, bitter "Why did it have to turn out this way; I desperately wish I could go back and do it over" feeling.
Be sure you have ice cream on hand.
Both start of with a boy like girl setting, then it takes a turn for the worse.
(You might face slight depression after completion of either of these series.)
Both are heartbreaking, tragic yet sentimental masterpieces of modern anime romance. Both are eccentric and innovative in their story with commendable characters. Primary protagonist in both experience nearly identical situations and experiences at some point, similar outcomes befall onto both as well.
Both revolve around a love relationship spanning over the course of years, along with the struggles the characters face, their interactions with other people, and a similar art style.
Violet Evergarden is the return of KyoAni's glorious heartfelt and grounded Storytelling sense Clannad, more specifically AFTERSTORY:
-they both are animated by the same Company KyoAni
-both have grounded emotional weight in its story
-follows the story of an extremely empathetic lead with troubled past seeking some form of redemption and/or consolation in life.
-taps into complex emotions and experiences that permeate throughout its narrative.
-has an episodic pacing to its shows structure for ease of watching.
-are known for exposing viewers emotions into physical manifestation more commonly known as Tears.
If you loved Clannad: After Story, Violet Evergarden is for sure the next anime you would like to watch. Violet Evergarden is also produced by Kyoto Animation, one of my favorite studios. It has one of the best animations I've ever, beautiful soundtrack, and tells heartbreaking stories just like Clannad does. It just has 13 episodes, so there's no excuse to not watch it. Give it a chance, I'm sure you won't regret it!
Both are made by the same production team, Kyoto Animation, and hence they managed to bring out the emotions to the highest level, giving both anime a sad and beautiful story to cry to.
These two anime are the only ones that I managed to relate in spiritual level and to shed tears to. Romance, comedy and realistic human interaction at its finest.
Constantly searching for a meaning of something is difficult. Clannad After Story and Violet Evergarden are no exception to this standard.
MCs Tomoya and Violet proceed on a long trek in finding their meanings relevant to their lives, whether that be about the people closed to you or what love is. On such tedious journeys, our MCs find answers to why things in life are the way that they are.
Both are great s.o.l anime full of drama, both brought to you by Kyoto Animation
Like Clannad, Violet Evergarden is also a production from Kyoto Animation, Superb storytelling and beautiful art make this another one of my favorites.
Realistic, supernatural anime that deal with love in all its different forms. In addition, there are striking similarities between the main protagonists and their respective relationships with their families and their primary love interests.
Consider watching the other if you enjoy the exploration of the themes of romance, friendship, family, and the changes in these relationships as time passes.
Slice of life/Romance series that deal with love in all different forms. They feel quite real and realistic considering they both have supernatural elements.
There's good character development in both with each own interesting story.
Both series are quite emotional, also with cute, happy and comical moments.
They give of very much the same feeling.
A slice of life anime with a glaring supernatural element that governs the story.
This includes a character driven plot where all of the main cast has a fleshed out character development (save a minor few), a solid romance storyline, breath taking animation, memorable music, and copious cliff hangers and plot twists that will give you "the feels".
Nagi no Asukara are one of the few animes that will fill the void when finishing Clannad: After Story. Likewise, Clannad and Clannad: After Story is an appropriate series to watch if you want more stories like Nagi.
School life romantic comedies, both of them also in the drama genre.
They both involve a group of friends which grow up while time passes.
Both of them give you the same feeling, they're really emotional.
If you loved clannad you'll also like myself yourself. Because both of these anime series have similar drawings, sad background stories of characters and hopeful expectations from the future and a big romance
These are both tragic love stories, and both have a happy ending in them. Not only that but its comedic just like clannad was (well in the beggining xP). Myself; Yourself AND clannad, are my 2 favorite animes hands down.
Both anime show the pain and hardship that had to be endured during the relationship. Both has a bit of comedy in it. Clannad is a bit more dramatic and imo clannad does a better job of making you feel the emotion but both anime taught me a lot.
Both Have a strong cast of characters, a cheery start with a somewhat misleading OP, deep development among all characters, and both will certainly terrorize you emotionally to some level. Watch at you're own discretion.
They both involve a somewhat large cast of students dealing with their own issues. It seems like your typical harem judging by the profile of the anime, but there's a lot more behind that
Myself;Yourself and Clannad: After Story lean towards the depressing side yet the animes & their plots are very enjoyable from the beginning until the end
Both have similar topics. When a person losses someone they loved and have to raise their childrens on their own. Extremily poweful and heartbreaking. Cute childrens ( ushio, ame) that have sad stories on their own. Both have a fantasy but intead of making the story boring and unrealistic, make it more powerful.
If you like it, you will definetly like the other.
Similar emphases on family and both leave you with a similar satisfying feeling. Plenty of drama, heartbreak, and a little comedy to make these slice of life stories about families growing up some of the best anime there are. Clannad After Story has more romance and much more drama while Wolf Children has more emphasis on the kids growing up and discovering who they want to be.
Both involve a parent raising their child (or children in Wolf Children) whilst overcoming their own personal issues. It's difficult to say exactly how similar the two situations are without giving huge spoilers, but they're pretty similar.
Also, both series have a fantastic soundtrack and incredible animation, and they're both extremely emotional watches. Chances are that one or another might make you shed a tear at some point. And if you were left with somewhat of a void after watching either CAS or WC, one of these will probably fill it.
(Bear in mind, though, that if you're going to watch After Story, it might be an idea to watch Clannad's first series first). read more
Everyone takes away something different when watching a series. When I think I found a new favourite, I really ask myself, what was so great about what I just watched? What about it moved me so much? I ask myself that of Clannad: After Story (CAS) and Ookami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki (OK).
CAS and OK have very sad and poignant moments. OK has the saddest opening I've seen to date. CAS made me cry at the end. Without revealing the plot, tragedy strikes and the story telling is very well done in both.
Raising a child has its ups and downs and this is well captured in both. There is the ineffable cuteness of a child, the difficulties of raising one and finally the satisfaction of seeing them grow. This aspect is well captured in the narratives and you really get to share in the emotions of parenthood.
So, if you watched one and felt really emotionally moved by the sad moments and parenting, you will no doubt enjoy the other. read more
Both anime have a heavy focus on real-life struggles, though with a bit of magic sprinkled within the plot. They're also massive tearjerkers with somewhat ambiguous endings, though Wolf Children's is less controversial. And finally, both of them are about learning to continue hoping and carry on, even in the darkest of moments - wonderful art pieces of inspiration and love.
Both have similiar topics the importance of family and the struggles of adulthood.
Also both have a fantastic soundtrack and incredible animation and they're both extremely emotional scenes.
If you like it,you will definetly like the other
One of the hardest things in the world can be raising a child. It only makes it worse when said person is struggling with life already as it is. These statements are well presented in the stories Clannad After Story and Wolf Children.
The struggling parents Tomoya and Hana go through a majority of ups and downs in their seemingly lives full of despair. And whilst they go through parenthood, they too, proceed on a path to go over new lessons in what being a parent means.
Both are great visual pieces with heartfelt moments around every corner of the movie.
If you watched Clannad you have to watch Toradora. They are very similar story-wise and the characters are sort of similar too. I would say Toradora had more entertainment while maintaining the I-love-her-and-she-loves-me-yet-other-girls-like-him-too sort of atmosphere. Yeah it'll most likely help you get out of the sadden state if you watched Clannad.
Both feature similar entertaining romcom styles, though Toradora leans more towards comedy while Clannad (especially AS) has more drama. While Clannad has stronger thematic development and is more poignant overall, if you liked one you will probably like the other.
I can't stress how much I loved both these series. Evoking a diversity of emotions (among them, laughs, hearty smiles, tears, and "aww moments" from cuteness), these unforgettable romantic comedies are the archetypes of their genre. If you enjoyed one, you will most definitely enjoy the other (although I was initially hesitant to try Clannad since it is more "drama heavy", Toradora had its tear jerker moments as well).
Enjoy!
Riotnoob.
Toradora and After Story greatly share the theme of "growing up" in a sense. Clannad After Story goes with the more realistic approach though which highly suits it. Toradora has a more dramatic feel due to certain conflicts presented in the story line. Overall, Toradora's dramatic phazes can be enjoyed if you liked the drama in After Story; the idea works likewise.
Romance, Problems with one's self, Slice of lifey. All the normal stuff that creates a good show with a welcoming atmosphere. I enjoyed both of these shows almost equally as much and recommend anyone that has watched Clannad and Clannad: After Story to go and watch Toradora!
The decision to watch both of these shows is far from regrettable and will leave you with hours of happiness and days of life changing thoughts and feelings.
If you liked Clannad's amazing character depth and relationship development, than Toradora is a great choice for you. While it can get a bit cheesy at times, Toradora is one of the best romantic character dramas I've ever seen, with characters that serve as the perfect example of 'show don't tell'. Highly recommended to anyone who likes brilliantly complex characters and also enjoys a good old' feels trip.
Also romance, drama, and also you can feel the life from this anime! Also, like Clannad,Kimi ga Nozomu Eien is full of feelings to friends, who later become lovers.
In Kimi ga Nozomu Eien Haruka is similar to Nagisa.
Both series are about mediocre high school students that are involved in a romantic story that becomes tragedy later on due to certain circumstances. The main characters have a lot in common, also there are several hilarious scenes as well as confessions that make you cry.
Clannad: After Story has more drama but it is well in the same genre.
I hope you will enjoy both series as I have
Both anime have very dramatic romance stories and overuse pathos/melodramatic mecanics in order to stir viewers. Unless, Clannad is most bittersweet and have also good feeling/comedy moments while Kimi ga Nozomu Eien has a"big drama density" which can be very opressing.
although in the exterior they look very different,Aria and Clannad are quite simmilar
Both of them give the viewer that heartwarming feeling after watching an episode.
Also both of them teach the viewer morals through the storyline.
Aria is anyway much more less dramatic, because while Clannad can be very tense at times,Aria is always laid back and relaxing...
anyway, these 2 animes are both a must watch, especially for the comedy/slice of life fans out there
Slice of life with a tremendous emotional plots and a lot moral lessons. Clannad After Story is more focused in romance, Aria is focused in the daily lifes of the main characters, both anime series tell the happy and sad experiences of the main characters.
The core of both series centers around their characters growing and becoming better people, experiencing a new understanding of themselves that become obvious in retrospect.
The stakes of both are simple and down-to-earth (humanity is never at stake). The drama in both series is often understated (especially in Aria). They both aim to convey something beautiful about life, and if they succeed for you, you might change certain ways how you act or think.
They convey in deceptively straightforward but profound terms the beauty and meaning in family or of teaching.
None other than the epitome of endings.
Emotion. It's a powerful thing, because of it, we can do things that may or may not make sense, we can find ourselves in the worst of times, we can find at the brightest of times. All it usually takes is someone else to lift one from the worst times. Clannad AS and FB Final use this base and shoot it up to a spectacular quality. One that has a well earned itself a history of being #1 in that category (of their times), both here at home (of MAL), and with fans around us.
I won't go into too much due to spoilers, but there is a lot of change to the immense build-up that was before the two sequels came to be, paying off with what is probably some of the most respected finals anyone could ask for.
Watch the whole series of either if you haven't already. They are good romance, drama, with some supernatural events. Very much worth your while. read more
(Spoiler free)
Clannad.. a perfect slice of life anime.. But why am i recommending it to those who liked fruits basket final?
1)Character development: Fruits basket showed amazing character development from season one portraying every aspect of a character and throwing light on the backstories of the characters.. Clannad also does the same.. talks about the backstories of different characters.. also the character development from clannad season 1 to afterstory is just wonderful..
2)Emotional aspect: Clannad afterstory is one of those anime that calls the onion chopping ninja.. (jk) Its also a tearjerker anime, similar to fruits basket, which is liked by a lot of people.
3)Romance: Just like kyo and tohru, Yuki and Machi, in Clannad also, we can notice the growing relationship between Tomoya and Nagisa
TL;DR Character development, Emotional aspect, Romance, Backstories, slice of life, all these aspects of Clannad are similar to fruits basket making it a must watch for someone who liked Fruits basket!!

- Presents the hardships of life and love
- Characters break down and must overcome their struggles
- Similar vibes, themes, and emotional tone
- Both are tearjerkers and amazing drama animes
Both series are intense emotional journeys that focus on the issues of generational and familial trauma, connecting with others, and developing as an individual. Both have a slight fantasy element that accentuates the overall plot, along with beautiful animation, scoring and character development.
These animes give a strong feeling of love between two people, as well as the love in a friendship. So strong in fact that this love makes the characters overcome obstacles with it. At the end I guess they are just both very moving.
firstly I just have to say you should obviously watch Clannad first before you watch the after-story.
-Clannad after story and steins;gate are light- hearted and happy at the start
- however they then gradually get more and more dramatic until you are practically on the floor crying your eyes out
-the endings are brilliant and make you feel completely satisfied with life
-Both have drama
-Both have romance
-Both have the main character thrown into serious depression because of the loss of another
At first this may seem like a weird recommendation, but I know a lot of Steins;Gate fans who love Clannad, and vise versa
Clannad After Story and Steins;Gate are two anime series based on visual novels that deal with bittersweet romance. While Clannad After Story doesn't deal with time travel in the way Steins;Gate does, it does explore multiple timelines of Tomoya Okazaki's love life. In keeping with the spirit of the visual novel, the anime adaptation will show off the different "routes" that were available in Tomoya's life. After Story is a sequel to Clannad, however, so it won't be entirely welcoming to new audiences unless you've watched the original anime first.
Both made from the same company and in similar style. Both are moving and worthful. In Air story of protagonists take place in the past, in Clannad characters get together in other world. If you like Clannad, then you must to watch Air.
They both are full of drama. But the good kind. They're both cute and will give you a fuzzy feeling in your heart. (Sorry I'm corny like that). And they both make you appreciate what you have. Clannad is a lot longer though. And Air is very short.
There both made me cry like a baby bro...and there both from the perfect studio KoiAni so you will never be disappointed by watching them...reload your eye because you are going to cry.....a lot
-Both based on visual novels created by Key
-(IMO) Both give off a calming feel when watching
-Both have lovable, realistic characters
-Both have a great balance between humor and being serious.
Both share the same essence and style. The main characters have many similarities.
And share many similarities both in the development of the plot and in that of the characters
Artwork in both animes is outstanding and avant-garde (same applies to ef - tale of melodies). Both incorporate supernatural characters in surreal settings and heavy doses of symbolism (ef much more so). Ef's characterization is markedly more in-depth. Clannad avoids the ef serie's intense (but well-executed) melodrama, whereas ef avoids Clannad's harem stereotypes.
It's got the same vibe and feel about it! Both animes have great characters, and the love story in both animes are truly remarkable. What the two shows also have in common is the magic and mystery of the world the characters live in! If u liked Clannad Afterstory, you will also love Ef: A tale of memories, and vice versa! They both have bittersweet ends, where you will either end up crying, or have this sense of happy feeling when the show is done!
Both of these shows have a similar art style, that I believe aids in the telling of the story. Although I would identify Ef as a bit more on the artsy side, both shows tell their respective stories in interesting ways that fully utilize the characters and art style. Also, the characters in both these shows are vivid, real and relatable, which just enhances the ability of these shows to pull on your heart. Also, both of these shows have a unique supernatural element that at first I thought would "cheapen" the stories, but in the end I think it added to the surreal art and plot style of the works. Though these shows have a few differences (mainly in the way Ef has that distinctive SHAFT style that I love in all their works) I enjoyed both of them very much, and I still identify these shows among my favorites. read more

For those who are looking for strong emotions, well built dramas, those here are the ones that best fit the request.
(BR)
Para quem ta procurando fortes emoções, dramas bem construidos, esses aqui são os que melhor se encaixam no pedido.
Both A Tale of Memories and Clannad After Story explore really deep themes and make you look at life in a different perspective. They touch on subjects such as depression and death which would make you cry and sympathize with the characters. If you like deep and complex plots, you should check out Clannad After Story and its prequel, Clannad.
Ok first of all its very interesting , but in the same time sad , that what it makes it similar to each other , i would recommend whatching both if you like anime that has somewhat sad and happy parts in it ( sorry for my bad eng lol ) its my first recomm to
If you like damn feels and have already watched Clannad After Story, I highly recommend you Plastic Memories !!! Those damn feels !
This anime made me think of Clannad many times, again, even though the story is quite different, both of them made me cry a lot ! I think Plastic Memories is better, it's your turn to judge which one is better !!
They’re amazing romance animes that have a main character suffer due to the loss of someone they love. Despite that they move on in life. They’re also very heavy shows that I can almost guarantee will make you cry. Both of the animes have the same message of being glad about the time you spend with your loved ones along with cherishing your memories with them without any regrets.
They both focus on a relationship between two people and they have to live life to the fullest. They also both deal with coping with loss and what to do about it.
- These anime are about the struggles the male MCs face as they grow up.
- Both anime have 'regret' as one of the main themes.
- If you felt like crying for one of these anime, then you'll most likely cry for the other
one as well.
- Both anime are in the world of slice of life. If you're a fan of this genre then you
might like both as well.
What is it that you regret? Your past? The people you've met? Yourself as an individual? Can these regrets change you for the better?
Clannad After Story and A Silent Voice answer these questions for you, protagonists Tomoya and Shouya slowly venture out for these answers after their depressing pasts of being a delinquent and a former bully respectively.
Both are great coming of age stories brought to you by Kyoto Animation about how regrets can change a man forever.
Both approach adult conflicts in a very human way (Clannad AF: aftger episode 8). Both are drama + romance + slice of life and both will probably make you cry...XP
Both have hard hitting drama and lovely tales of romance. Just like After Story, Tale of Melodies isn't for the light of heart. It's not a light and fluffy rom-com. It will make you cry. That being said, both series are excellent. The story lines are incredible and definitely make you want to keep watching. Really great animes that have a very similar feel.
the sequel of ef: a tale of memories completes the story of the two cities and fascinates again with a real sad but still satisfying story, awesome artwork and good characters
Nana is about two girl who have a lot of problems in their life and have to keep struggling, just like Nagisa had to. Both anime made me laugh and cry. The first few episodes of Nana may seem childish or boring, but that's the same problem I had with Clannad, however, in the end, they both became my favourite animes.
Most people would say there not the same but Both of them have a deep love story behide them and alot of tragedy . both will make you laugh , cry and make you feel connected to them
Both series are explorations into what it means to be in a relationship and what it takes to make it work amidst the turmoil that is life. They're both quite well developed in their characters and in their faithful portrayal of the ups and downs of love. If you like Nana, you should watch Clannad for the back-story then watch Clannad After Story and enjoy the soul-crushing void that comes with it. If you're in a relationship, or were in one where things didn't exactly go according to plan, or even if they did, you will be able to appreciate both Nana and Clannad After Story for all they have to offer. read more
These two animes are "slice of life" types, but they differ in many ways. However, if you seek for a realistic story with subtle and minimal presence of supernatural elements, then both anime's can be a good choice. While "Clannad: After Story" shows a realistic picture of a man who enters adulthood with all its cons and pros, "Golden Time" presents a realistic image of a man who starts his college life, meets new friends, finds love and deals with trauma from the past.
actually both of this anime have a different plot. but both of them have a similar quality. guess what ? both of them have a quality to move your heart, also to warm your cold heart.
both are romance anime, with the same main idea that will show you how cruel is the world. but don't worry it won't deliver you to the path of destruction. both of them are certainly have prepare good ending for theses stuff.
just one thing, make sure you see all the series and be ready to brace your self. it might surprise you in some way.
Do you care about the past? Should you hide it? What does the future bring? What to do in the present time?
As time goes on, we are prone to experience more and more daunting issues of a haunting past resurface to intercept any current peacetime. Such matters, of course, require those close to us so that we are able to overcome that which brings us down. Stories Golden Time and Clannad AS utilise such techniques in a way that makes both of them stand tall in their present-day spotlight.
Time is a major theme in both, especially in regards to relationships of the past and how we have to let go. Both stories featuring our protagonists Tomoya and Tada find themselves in quite the eventful time of their lives when it comes to love in that respect.
Would recommend both if you are a fan of drama, looking for something maybe to bring a tear to your eye.
(mixed with 2 different versions of the same rec) read more
- Both endings are very touching and will leave you in tears.
- Both main girls are optimistic, cute, and kindhearted.
- Both have romance and some fantasy.
I definitely recommend this anime if you loved Kobato.
The feeling of the two stories seemed one and the same to me. They both gave off a warm nostalgic feeling that left you with a smile on your face. The stories are both deep and heartwarming, and can also be sad. Kobato has more of a light feel to it, because it can make you laugh.
In both stories there is:
-romance
-friendship
-a sweet innocent girl
-A guy that keeps a tough act
-supernatural qualities
-A heartwarming story
if you like one, then you'll like the other.
Both series are technically solid, though plot and character-wise, they are sub-par.
Both series have one purpose: To prey on your emotion and to make you cry.
Although both series are rather different (Elfen Lied is ten times more violent and gory than anything Clannad will ever be,) but both series' do a good job of pulling at your heartstrings. If you enjoy a good cry and a heartwarming story, then definitely check it out.
May seem like a stretch on the surface, but Clannad After Story and Elfen Lied does have an interesting tale proposed when thinking about the sweet things in life that go away every so slowly.
Over the course of a grand lifetime. Tomoya and Lucy partner with their respective candidate in finding the simple answers to the world that was so hard on them.
Elfen Lied's action and psychology are drastically different from Clannad AS's dramatic tone, however.
In these shows, an initially apathetic main character is taught to cherish his life and those around him by a sickly girl. Through the moving, and at times silly, experiences of the main characters, these stories show that even though happy times may not be permanent, hardship can happen at any time, and those dear to you will die, every moment is worthwhile.
Both Clannad and Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai have:
-Students that have their emotions revived by the female mc
-Fantastic story lines from start til finish
-Scenes that will bring out emotions you didn't even know you had
(This includes the first season of Clannad too)
Romance that is building up following the main character who is taking care of a child its a touching anime just like clannad I saw the recommendation of it and I watch Ababy in 2days <3 got to love it
Rei and Tomoya are both guys with troubled pasts who are "saved" by a girl they both care a lot for, Hina and Nagisa. They both also spend a lot of time with families who are not their own but treat them as such, the Kawamotos and the Furukawas.
A lot of heart and emotion are put into both series. Even though After Story takes place over several years and Sangatsu only takes place over a few months, they're both equally effective in conveying emotions that anyone can relate to.
I see people trying to argue that one is better than the other which makes no sense to me because both shows are excellent and if someone like one then I'm cetain they will love the other. read more
3-gatsu no Lion is like Clannad: After Story but handled right in every aspect. 3-gatsu has richer character study, beautiful art (both character and background), and - most importantly - cute girls without eyeballs covering their faces.
They're both emotional rollercoaster when it comes to enjoyment.
While Clannad: AS uses spiritual elements to its plot, 3-gatsu in the other hand uses a realistic approach just like any slice of life shows out there.
Both are masterpieces
While clannad after story uses real-life situations and uses fantasy, march comes in like a lion uses real-life problems without fantasy.
Both kind of give off the same vibe because both shows make us understand how the characters feel and the visuals are very beautiful.
While I like clannad after story more, march comes in like a lion made me cry around the 4th episode while clannad made me cry more around the second half.
-Both animes's setting/story goes by an omnibus format, and have small arcs for each heroine that doesn't diverge from the central plot of the story (with the setting intact)
the clannad franchise is like a clean minded version of Shuffle! a romance comedy drama mix up.. a bunch of girls surround the MC and and he chooses the girl who's the best friend figure who is often prone to sickness...Nagisa is like a mixture of the gentle house wife part of Kaede Fuyou and the sickness proned best friend part of Asa Shigure. and her mom is just like ami shigure in how she carries herself ... also supernatural special effects with the capacity to restore loved ones. ...there's also a crazy dad. (nagisa's pops/sia's pops)
the difference is clannad like i mentioned before is like a clean minded version of shuffle! (don't worry about ecchi because there is none! a good series doesn't need such trash to be enjoyable..let's get our minds off the gutter) ..Clannad as a whole is generously more wholesome than shuffle! a decent improvement in comparison read more
Clannad ~AS~ may actually be slower-paced than H&C II, with both being peaceful slice-of-lifes tinged with despair. Very emotional stories, truly masterpieces.
Both series are pretty with compelling characters, and each goes into detail about relationships in a way that most series won't. Both are smart and enjoyable romantic series that contain a lot of laughs.
Sometimes, we will find ourselves connecting on a deep emotional level with a character or characters in a show. Sometimes, the story will seem less like a fanciful escape and more like a reflection upon society or our individual lives.
I am treating Bakuman., Bakuman. 2, and Bakuman. 3, all 75 episodes, as one series
The similar aspects:
-Dramatic moments that may or may not make you tear up
-Extremely well-written romance
-Some incredibly touching moments
-Some hilarious moments
The different aspects
-Clannad: After Story is much more serious than Bakuman.
-Without spoiling anything, the final* ending of Bakuman. ending makes much more sense (*Bakuman. 3)
-The premise of Bakuman. is overall more Shounen, meaning the Main Characters have a goal, and they're going to make in a reality
-Bakuman. has an overall more realistic feel to it
In conclusion it is really up to the watcher, however, both shows are perfect examples of very, very well-written Slice-of-Life, Drama, Rom-Coms(sort of), that will give you a feeling of accomplishment when you finish the entire series. read more
Bakuman and Clannad: After Story are both telling coming-of-age stories that leave you with a feeling of accomplishment at the end. They have a similar mixture of comedy and seriousness while treating different subjects of becoming an adult - family and romance, or goals & dreams in life.
Both series contain heartfelt experiences that may or may not make you cry, along with a daughter-father relationship in the works. They have beautiful animation and art style and deal with similar death related themes. Ai from Kami-Nai and Ushio from Clannad also share similar childish characteristics although diverse from their ages. In each world, the characters are also given second chances. In Kami-Nai however, darker themes are discussed and it is more death-related and fantasy than Clannad AF. In Clannad AF, more drama and romance is involved and it is definitely more slice of life with a slight mix of supernatural.
Raising a child is difficult. Stories Clannad After Story and Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms present this all too well. Hardships, a past of darkness, corrupted values influence these families all too much.
Clannad's struggling Tomoya endures the pain of what possibilities can await an adult. Promised Flower's Iorph Maquia also endures this pain as well as the differences in races in who she is raising.
Both are great anime with the same emotional ups and downs parents and children can feel alike.
Both revolve around that family aspect and is a great movie to watch for a good cry. A big difference is the setting though since this movie is more fantasy. NOTICE: the first time I watched it was slow in the beginning but it gets better and the ending left me with a happy yet bittersweet and lonely feeling.
First thing I would like to let you know is that I am a Slice of Life with romance.
1) I have seen so many anime series of genre Slice of Life but they are 100% School oriented but in these series, Slice of life comes out of School life.
2) Male Main character both suffers and they are not clear out their feeling.
Both of them have mature and realistic love story, along with fully fleshed out 3 dimensional main cast, also just have a box of tissues at hand because they are going to make you cry hard(or atleast depressed).
Both of these shows happen after what's usually the end of a romance anime: the two main characters finally deciding to go out. After story is a season 2 though, whereas Tonikawa just starts with the main characters in a relationship.
I HIGHLY recommend you watch this after After Story for a cooldown.
This show is 100% wholesome and without drama, so it's great for curing a certain depression.
Similar in the sense that it's about a romantic relation between a boy and a girl who just got out of school with a very cute and welcoming artstyle.
If you want a heartwarming story about a family with a strong theme behind it, try watching Tsumiki no Ie. While Clannad is an anime series and Tsumiki no Ie is a 12 minute short, I believe that Tsumiki no Ie presents a uniquely potent story of a caliber similar to that of Clannad After Story.
Life. No. The events of life.
Sometimes they hurt, especially when recalled from the worst of positions. Yet they are a part of us to not part from us at any point in life. However, we must accept that such has happened, and overcome this hole of depression with the fact that life prevails forward, regardless of one's current state.
Clannad AS and Tsumiki are simply masters at telling such, with attachments none other than real "feels" that happen to be around this medium.
Both are great stories in a relative sense that one may find to be very well worth their time if they are in need of a somewhat emotional story.

This anime is recommended because the story is well made, romance and drama sets you to thinking about real life. Like Clannad this story will touch your emotions.
This anime has 26 nice episodes, the after story off this anime isn't shown but its readable in the manga. Still i recommend the anime and the manga to the fans of Clannad after story!

Romance, tragedy, and drama are themes of the story so if you enjoy such genres, then you will certainly like both of these two anime(s). Both series are very touching and tries to bring viewers emotion which succeeds at that. Not only that, but both of these anime revolves around the protagonist on his decision for his future as well as the relationship he makes with other characters.
You've seen one of these masterpieces and you don't know where to go next? Looking for something as brilliant and perfect which isn't a copy of the anime you just saw? This is it. Both are shinning pinnacles of slice-of-life, which may seem like a genre for which it is easy to produce animes, while in reality it's quite tricky to avoid all the pitfalls of mediocrity and make something so enjoyable and heartwarming as these two.
OK, here me out here, Of course these two anime are completely different in terms of plots, for me these two anime will present you with a range of different emotions and within the end will leave you with a very happy feeling which you get from only good anime, they both tell tales of the start of something awesome to the end of something with both having a very melancholy feel at times.
The setting and concept is strongly similar yet the direction of the story goes on a different route. If you enjoyed Clannad, you will love this anime because both contains the same 'Key magic' and mysterious elements to the plot
Little Busters and Clannad were both written by Key, namely Jun Maeda for the second seasons of each show. They both originate as similar style VNs, that share a common development characters through primarily slice of life comedy before more dramatic events later on. They both originate from visual novels and have some overlapping storytelling traits due to the original format.
Also, Little Busters invokes a theme of friendship, while Clannad is more oriented towards a theme of family. They're both nice slice of life shows that shouldn't be hastily judged before getting to the end of the second season of each.
- Heavy emotional involvement
- Involve watching someone slip away right before your eyes
- Touching character interactions
- Good character development (which Kowarekake no Orgel amazingly manages to do in 30 minutes)
- Moe
- Tugs on your heart strings
- Great music, including some tracks with powerful vocals
In reality, Kowarekake no Orgel is good if you're a fan of ANY of Key's works, but it's most similar to Air in terms of plot.
If you liked very touching stories filled with love, like Clannad ~After Story~. Then Hanbu no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora would make it as another ideal anime that you should watch! Unlike Clannad ~After Story~, it's straight to the point without dragging it too long, explaining the short 6 episodes of the anime itself. A great short story!
Both are really sad in the romantic and dramatic way....
If you like Romance and drama with some heartbreaking moments, you'll like this one!
Dissimilarity: Clannad after story is the second season in The Clannad serie (suggest to watch both seasons though first season isn't very sad) while HnTgNS is only one season with 6 episodes while The Clannad serie keeps over 20 episodes each season.
1.Both of the series have beautiful romance and not-so-annoying love triangles.
2. They are both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
3. They start off at a high school and show the hardships of life after high school as well.
The side story in Clannad of the girl in the lost world coincides with the storyline of The Place Promised in Our Early Days. They carry the exact same sad empty atmosphere.
Both also regard young men going through hardships due to lost loves. Ah, serious complicated love.
Depressed main male character who monologues about not being able to move on from a past love, and that dreams feel more real than reality. Main love interest is flawless quiet girl who is basically the reason why protagonist lives.
Also have very similar questions and ideas of what the "real" world is, and a identical parallel universe theme. They both suggest that the world can dream, and that the alternate reality is the world dreaming of other possibilities. We also see moments when the worlds overlap (Orbs of light, the tower and Sayuri).
The atmosphere of both is very surreal, dissociation and depressing. Almost as if the whole world feels gray and 2 dimensional, until the happy moments of color blow those moments away. Try not to get too depressed after watching these. read more
i traveled 10 years back, to feel kyoto animation at its strongest: great story, true feelings, and absolutely amazing art direction. if you like sharp dramas, try this
Same slice of life story, that tells about "kazoku" dan the meaning. This story has more light drama than clannad. But all is good story. I recommend it if you like clannad very much..
Reading this you might think 'what the hell is he on about', but I assure you that if you enjoyed clannad after story you will love domestic girlfriend, especially the manga if you are willing to read.
First off I gotta say that Domestic Girlfriend was partly inspired by Clannad, there are a few moments that give me a deja vu from when I watched clannad, won't say any of them because no spoilers, secondly I've noticed that among the people who I found watched both of these, people who enjoyed clannad were always fans of domestic girlfriend or at least semi-liked it, no other 2 shows I can think of can claim this. and if you enjoyed seeing what your favourite characters got up to after high school such as in afterstory, then DG has this as well, and on an even bigger scale as all the side characters are seen a fair bit throughout the series as opposed to clannad which has like 3 appearances after graduation.
Trust me man, these two shows give me very similiar vibes, and to all my clannad fans out there, watch Domestic Girlfriend, you will not regret it I promise you read more
Clannad:After Story offers a deep emotional and romantic story throughout a beautifully depicted Japanese suburb, with many stunning scenes like those of cherry blossom for example, elements which I similarly found again in Maison Ikkoku, although with a lighter and less dramatic tone.
They both have similar vibes in my eyes, both being strongly about the sadness relationships bear. They are both deeper than they seem, and sometimes have questionable visuals, but still good.
Both have precious romance, a very dramatic story that will fill your room with tears and a very sadful way to explain how cruel this world is.
Also, the romance in both series is very similar, in some ways that I can't tell because it would be spoiler.
Suka suka and clannad is similar animes because lot of things in those animes are little bit similar. For ex- the love story, emotions, feelings. In those animes ending we almost cry. But, in middle part there is lot of fun and other good things which we like it. So i recommend clannad is similar to suka suka.
Both Anime have the boy and the girl with similar personalities. The plot and story are not similar at all but if you like the characters in Tamako Market, you will like Clannad's too.
This is for all those who dropped Clannad without watching after story like me
I really didn't enjoy Clannad but After Story made it worth it, and don't watch After story without Clannad as you need to watch it to really appreciate the characters, story etc.
Furiko is pretty much Clannad After Story in a nutshell. Same themes to do with time, the effects of ageing and family relationships, hell even characters are similar. If you have 4.5 mins to spend, I would recommend this.
Both of them are rare works in this medium by emphasising the lives, daily rhythms and experiences of twenty-somethings' lives. Both are uniquely mature romances, revolving around believable portrayals of adults in relationships. Both are centred around work, going into (and deep struggles adjusting to) the world of work. Both are about finding purpose in life, and both find their answers in work, love and family. Both are in part driven by an emotional core of grief, serving as two of the most powerful explorations of mortality in the medium.
Both take place in a world speeding through our protagonist's fingers, with both Rikuo and Tomoya, to varying degrees and in varying means, struggling to process deep change in their life and the world around them, redefining their place in it, and sinking into memories of 'yesterday'. Likewise, both protagonists are similarly flawed people with baggage from their past - their actions aren't perfect, they make sometimes awful mistakes which the storyline forces them to regret deeply. At times both portray uncomfortably intimate struggles with mental health.
Despite Clannad After Story's more fantastical setting/magical storytelling, its visual novel origins and its more lighthearted sections, tonally, thematically and in the thoughts and situations they like to present Yesterday and Clannad After Story are remarkably similar. read more
The struggles of being a parent. Clannad After Story and Kakushigoto both follow parents experiencing the importance, along with struggles of being a parent.
Mangaka Gotou and a deteriorating Tomoya both witnessed first hand how hard it is to raise children as well as keeping their own lives stable. Whether it be lying to protect or a broken past affecting the future, both stories show these characters trying to better themselves and their children.
Both are great s.o.l anime about parenthood featuring comedy, with Clannad AS being more dramatic than Kakushigoto.
An obscure recommendation, but losing a loved one is a universal feeling at some point in life. Kanamewo, despite being short, has the same power as Clannad AS in conveying such an emotion. Touching, to say the very least.
Do obviously watch Clannad then After Story if you haven't seen the series already.
-Both have romance
-Both have lots of comedy
-Both have drama
-Both have a different kind of lead heroine in comparison to your typical tsundere
-Both get you attached to the characters which makes it even harder to deal with their losses
The 2nd halves of ReLife and Clannad both take attentive detail into the initial MCs that were given at their original start points, the development between the two MCs from here only seems to bloom with great ups and downs in between. Made in a good way nonetheless.
Although ReLife Final Arc is faster than Clannad AS. They are both good finishes to the series from what I would say.
Story isn't similar to Clannad, but when I watched Bunny Girl Senpai I got similar felling I had when watching Clannad. Similarities are great story, comedy, romance and generally it's really enjoyable to watch.
Sakuta (one of the main characters) also reminded me a lot to Tomoya.
Sequels to fairly popular series which tend to be viewed as the "pinnacle" of the series or the season where the payoff kicks in at it's fullest. Although the prequels should be watched beforehand, they do nothing but justice for the entire series and one minute you could be laughing while the next minute you could be crying. Both also touch on themes of friendship and family through an arc based formula
[First, sry for my BROKEN ENGLISH. You can correct me about a wrong grammar]
Both series is a great coming of age series. In these series, you will see a great character development of Tokai Teiou and Okazaki, Tomoya. They had struggled and worked their way through countless obstacles whether they lost something that it's one of the most important things in their life. They have to stand victorious against their past and become success. Both series can make me cry a lot in THAT SENSE.
Drama is a powerful thing, it plays with the very thing that prevents humans from being the consistently logic perfect hollow shell of a being. That is emotion. With such a power, drama is able to truly bring out the most of feels from an individual, is a force to be reckoned with. Clannad AS and Kaigo to Ikiru are dramas that are S-tier in this category.
I really believe as Clannad AS is able to have such a huge collection of thoughts correlating to the same thing - a masterpiece - the same is true for Kaigo to Ikiru. Dealing with some unfortunate events in life, how to go around such and the people you look to when seeking support. Be it a full 50+ episode series containing the lead up to the vivid 2nd half, or just a short commercial reflecting multiple instances in real life, both anime are leading horses in what makes a good drama. Just one is unfortunately a dark horse compared to the bright stallion.
Great drama, just one is more time-efficient than the fully developed series, but it goes to show not everything must be the same for it to succeed.
Also great music and visuals. read more
both series feature a rude delinquent type outsider who is selflessly helping others and is loved by a weak shy girl who puts up with him despite his lack of politeness...also both of these series are emotional rollercoasters. difference is one is action pack while the other is slice of life
Both are heavily based on real life struggles
both have MC, who is Careless in the beginning but becomes more mature as the time passes by and he faces more problems in his journey
both MC have same type of caring girlfriend, who would stand by their side at every point of life
Although Clannad is far more better than NHK, still NHK is is good enough
Sola is the first anime created by Hayashi Naoki, former employee of Key studios and original creator of the Kanon visual novel. The signature Key formula is unmistakable.
I find the part where Tomoya enters the workforce is similar to Rec's overall tone. Both male leads face hardships in their respective jobs and of course, both have romance as the main genre to boot.
Both are poignant and dramatic animes. we see how the characters struggle emotionally and how they overcome their troubles throughout. Overall both very heartfelt :')
They both involve similar animation and depp plots that make you wanna cry at the end but then end with a smile. they both are the deepest anime i have ever seen and teach you how to be a better person while giving you the entertainment of a extremely well written romance, comedy, drama.
YU-NO was originally a 1996 visual novel, and was hugely influential, inspiring numerous visual novels and anime shows. One of the VNs and anime shows inspired by YU-NO is Clannad. The author of Clannad, Jun Maeda, cited YU-NO as inspiration for Clannad.
In particular, the latter parts of both YU-NO and Clannad After Story have a similar tragic plotline involving a father, mother and daughter.
-Both animes's setting/story goes by an omnibus format, and have small arcs for each heroine that doesn't diverge from the central plot of the story (with the setting intact)
-Both animes's setting/story goes by an omnibus format, and have small arcs for each heroine that doesn't diverge from the central plot of the story (with the setting intact)
Both shows deal with the topic of family bonds and how important they are.
If you look for something more in anime than just comedy or action, then both of these masterpieces are labelled 'must-watch' for you.
-Both animes's setting/story goes by an omnibus format, and have small arcs for each heroine that doesn't diverge from the central plot of the story (with the setting intact)
I know it can be weird—Clannad to FMA:B? But I think it's not so stupid. Both these anime are about life. In FMA:B life as a living armor, for example, but you must fight for happiness. In every world and circumstances, normal (as in Clannad) and fabulous (as in FMA:B).
Made by the same creators (Key!), you will absolutely love this show if you enjoyed any of Key's other stuff, but particularly Clannad AS. It is a short, 5 episode series set in a post-apocalyptic world (similar to Angel Beats! but far better).
The artstyle are very similar with the surrealistic drawings that draws you into the scene; very detailed. The stories deal with a normal world and another vaguely explained world. The way everything works is not put in front of you and requires you to activate your brain and think things through; maybe even doing research. The stories are very powerful and both activate emotions very easily. The biggest difference is how Clannad takes the emotions very far and toys with your heart, while Kimi no na Wa takes simple steps to trigger a lesser level of sadness.
Both are similar in such a way that they started out as a seemingly fun and quirky slice of life anime but quickly downsides into a very sad and emotional second half.
Do you enjoy watching a romance anime with heart and good character development put into it? Do you enjoy a show laced with beautiful scenery, memorable music and a mix of FEEELS? Both these shows left an impact in me, and their difficult themes and catchy opening songs haunted me long after I had finished watching them. Yosuga no Sora and Clannad After Story deal with dating, crushes and family drama in the first arcs but turn to more mature themes towards the end. Both shows are, in their own ways, absolutely unforgettable.
You laugh. You cry. You feel hyped. You feel excited. You think. You let your emotions out. Being my favourite and second favourite anime i can certainly say that they bring out everything you have with great characters
If you just finished Clannad and your room's filled with tears, try a more upbeat series next. The Familiar of Zero is also filled with romance, though not as much drama, but there are still some moments which give a feel similar to that of Clannad.
These anime are both very similar in the way that the male and female protagonist meet and an instant connection forms, and it almost seems they were "destined" to meet. Also, as the story progresses you see the relationship grow stronger. Both anime have a very emotional side to them, which really make you connect to the characters and their actions.
They both have Drama and Romance in there and both are really fun Anime's to watch with True Tears you have alot of Drama that you don't expect and the same happens in Clannad After Story both are very good Anime's
A series that was already filled with emotion, brings a seccond season even more deep. Maybe Tamayura is not that "dramatic" but is still a hearth warming story.
Furukawa Nagisa - Konoe Nanami
Okazaki Tomoya - Tomosaka Kenji
And in both anime the male and female main character make a good couple/really cute couple
If you liked one you'll like the other at 100% the only different is the amount of episodes
The artwork is impeccable. The personality and movements realistic of the characters make a complement of the well worked drama presented in this anime.
After you watch Clannad you get a feeling in your heart almost like a hole that was left by Clannad and every one just keep on moving on and oblivious to what you just felt and you are in search of some thing to fill that gap.
Spice and wolf slowly introduces its charters and lets you get to know them, it starts feels you have become submerged in the story like you have found something to fill that gap once more. you will laugh, you may cry, you may get mad.
you will be happy you have walked with Kraft Lawrence and Holo the wise wolf on a jouny that may be short lived but one you won't forget, it will make you feel some thing just like you did with Clannad. read more
Of course you will have to watch the first season before Bakuman. 2 or Clannad: After Story but these anime were so amazing!!!! (Even the first seasons)
You watch as the characters mature.
There were many emotional and heartwarming scenes.
Whenever a character feels a certain way, you can't help but feel the same.
Again, these were masterpieces and if you haven't seen these series, SHAME!!
-Drama
-Supernatural
-Damn feels
-Same setting
-Both mc are rude, but on the other hand also gentle
-Similar animation
my OP: When I watched Suzumiya I got the same feeling as with watching After story. I thought that everyone got enough screen time and the pacing is really good and both got some surprising elements + fanservice?, that you wouldn't expect. I'm 100% sure, that you are going to like the Suzumiya haruhi series if you liked the Clannad series. And vice versa.
