If you want a heartwarming story about a family with a strong theme behind it, try watching Tsumiki no Ie. While Clannad is an anime series and Tsumiki no Ie is a 12 minute short, I believe that Tsumiki no Ie presents a uniquely potent story of a caliber similar to that of Clannad After Story.

Life. No. The events of life.
Sometimes they hurt, especially when recalled from the worst of positions. Yet they are a part of us to not part from us at any point in life. However, we must accept that such has happened, and overcome this hole of depression with the fact that life prevails forward, regardless of one's current state.
Clannad AS and Tsumiki are simply masters at telling such, with attachments none other than real "feels" that happen to be around this medium.
Both are great stories in a relative sense that one may find to be very well worth their time if they are in need
