This seems to be a pretty common comparison - probably because Light and Lelouch are practically the same character. Both shows feature quite a bit more intellectual sparring than your typical shounen fare, and both main characters have very similar personalities (they're closer to being villains than heroes) and abilities (ridiculously powerful but with prominent weaknesses that require careful planning to circumvent).

It's hard not to see Guilty Crown as something of a Code Geass rip-off when they're similar to the extent the main character receives "the power of the king" from a mysterious female, before involving himself in a Japanese rebellion against foreigners discriminating against the Japanese. There are even robots on roller-skates in it! So far, what keeps the two as separate entities is the respective leads. In Code Geass Lelouch starts the rebellion himself and is driven by both hatred and the desire to protect his disabled little sister. In Guilty Crown the lead is (mod edit) a bit emotionally unstable and gets himself pulled  read more

The epitome of brawn versus brains. If you can't get through a person's defences straight on then go around it, the most significant thing in the end is the result. 'Code Geass' has indulged itself in a war between two sides unbreakable by truce and alliance. The enemy of my enemy is my friend and one must get their clean hands tainted in order to achieve revolution. Trust and betrayal are mere shells in order to reach one's goals. Flashy animation, mecha fest with plenty of action packed sequences, political intrigue galore: Gundam 00 and Code Geass in a nutshell. Both titles focus on the efforts of the leads to change the world in one way or another, these efforts having quite drastic consequences along the way. Gundam 00 follow a group of characters and takes place in space as well as on Earth while Code Geass has a clear main character and takes nationalistic desires as the primary plot device, fans of one are likely to enjoy the other.

In Both the hero is nobility. Lelouch was a discarded prince while Reinhard was a poor noble. But both want to remove the nobility from power. Both have grand plans to unify the world for the sake of their sisters. Both are charismatic and have strong allies and enemies. Both are Genius military guys and will make sacrifices for the grand dream.

These two series both have heavy dosages of mecha, though its mecha done right, when there ARE casualties and sacrifices are made, though Gurren Lagann is less thinking, it still has the right combination of elements to keep you glued to the screen and want more. Think Gurren Lagann as a lighter, less intelligent type, that has a wider scope then Code Geass.

Main things that make these two animes similar are the protagonists being genius like anti-heros, with a major theme being terrorism. Also, both animes have another strong character with differing values with the main character, hence fighting against the them. I think there are a lot of hidden metaphors in both animes, and they both explore deeper notions and emotions as the story progresses. There is a lot of action, strategic planning, girl characters that don't do much, long legged skinny guys as the mains...but they're still pretty cool... In the last few weeks I've been singing the praises of Code Geass, and when people ask why I always end up comparing it to Gundam Seed. Both series have a similar plot, you've got a character who is silly smart, and decides to 'save the world'. Through both series you'll find you'll have yourself pondering about which side your really on. While Code Geass has Lelouch doing questionable things, you'll find half the characters in Seed lost themselves trying to decide who are the good guys. Perpetually-pissed protagonists with mommy issues. One of them protects his sister and the other is protected by his sister. If you find one of them compelling then you will find the other compelling. Both also have exceedingly slow paces.

Main character who outsmarts all of his foes (and allies). One Outs is basically all about strategies and interesting psychological tricks, and very entertaining for those who enjoy the 'battle of wits' aspect of Code Geass, Death Note and other similar anime.

Both the protagonists of Kuroshitsuji and Code Geass are very similar - from the fact they both follow the way of self-destruction and vengeance to the order issuing abilities and proficiency in chess. In general, Ciel looks like a chibi version of Lelouch, not smart and skilled enough to pwn anyone he wants through strategy, relying on his butler Sebastian instead. (btw one of Shinigami in Kuroshitsuji is voiced by Jun Fukuyama.) English nobility, royal family members, tons of pathos, the only difference is XIX and XXI centuries, so no mecha in Kuroshitsuji.

While these shows are very different genres, one thing in common is the approach of the story as both protagonists are antiheroes willing to do whatever it takes to reform the corrupt world they live in, and are committing crimes left and right in order to make that happen. Already few minutes into Owari no Seraph a gave me vibes similar to Code Geass. In both shows (Based on the first episode) - There are two guys who could be either best friends or biggest rivals. - One of them is kind of a rebel while the other is more of a nice guy. - The world / society they live in is in a difficult situation. Some kind of royal/ higher class issues going on. - Fighting against that society. If you liked Code Geass i think you may find something in Owari no Seraph as well.

If you liked Fullmetal Alchemist, then you might also like Code Geass because of the genres that are similar to both animes. They both deal with the male protagonist having to deal with the military, fantasy like mecha items and tons of action involved. And the best part in my opinion is that there really aren't many fillers in these animes so it makes it worth watching =]

Both of these series involve loads of chracters making intricate plans against each other for various motivations. There is action and a supernatural element in both. Code Geass has a lot of high school age characters while Fate/Zero mostly involves adults, and there are more not-so-serious episodes in Code Geass. Code Geass has mechs while Fate/Zero has swords and sorcery. But they both have more plotting and gambits than you can count. If you like that aspect of one, you'll almost certainly like the other.

Cowboy Bebop earns its reputation for its combination of fighting and original character matchings, as does Code Geass. If you liked Spike, Zero takes it to a much larger scale when Spike's close range combat is bought into the scale of international war.

Both shows are pretty similar. They are action packed in Code Geass the Mechas are the Titan Shifters and have their unique powers. Both of them are about racism, hypocrisy, a MC with a plan to change the world to the better and Reiner has a lot of characteristic to Suzaku such as both of them want to die, but they can't make up their mind. They oppose the MC and both of them suffer throughout the show. Gabi is as annoying and racist as Nina. There tons of waifus and very well written and complex characters with theme exploration.

The genre of MMORPG in anime is still very new. In respect of similarity, it would be the protagonists whom both possesses their alter ego. The dominating presence, strength, wisdom, does not waver to kill and sacrifice for the sake of achieving their goals. They are both their world's changer.

P5 and CG deal with the theme of the rebellion in a supernatural high school setting with the MCs transforming their lives from students who suffer boredom to a rebellious leader set out to reform society for the greater good. Both deal with the morality and justification of the individuals actions as the stories progresses within the white, black, and gray area to compel the story. Not to mention that Jun Fukuyama voices both Lelouch and Ren making them have whats in common and their looks making both shows parallel to each other.

I know. I know they're VERY different stories, but let me guide you to "why you should watch this both shows". Even when Code Geass is somewhat futuristic (with all the mecha stuff) and Arslan Senki have this pseudo-medieval environment, they share some points. First, both are about "regaining the power". Arslan trying to regain his kingdom, Lelouch trying to be the emperor. Both are sons of leaders of some place. Star Driver and Code Geass are most memorable to me as series that seamlessly blend school life with rather convoluted conspiracy plots involving plenty of mecha action. The main characters are faced with an incredible burden and eventually, have to save the entire world in their respective ways. That's where the similarities end, however. Both of these anime are quite similar if observed in-dept. These pair of mecha starts with a girl appearing before both of the male protagonists, give them powers and use them for their own agendas. Obviously, another one of those similarities is the art. Their character styles have these easily-noticed long, slender arms and legs plus Lelouch and Alma's facial structure are quite alike.

Code Geass and Gun X Sword were made by the same director, Goro Taniguchi, and some of the same staff members too. Both series involve giant mecha combat, although Code Geass starts off as more realistic in this respect. Gun X Sword benefits from being self-contained and more focused.

I know these two series may seem not similar at all- Higurashi's action takes place only in one small village and there are only a few characters, while Code Geass talks about a world conflict and have a lot of charas. Two of the most entertainment-packed series I've seen. Both have extremely realistic, tone-neutral character writing. Gundam 00 isn't as good as code geass but there were multiple times where i felt as though i'd seen the same thing in code geass, in gundam Setsuna believes he can change the world with the power of a gundam, and in CG leluch believes he can change the world with Geass, both shows have losses that the main character and everyone aroud must go through, death and suffering.

Lelouch is one of the better analogues you'll find to Tatsuya and though he isn't nearly as GODMODE he benefits from being in a vastly superior story and better animated show than poor Tatsuya. While there isn't an imouto character in Geass of anywhere near the same quality as Miyuki there is plenty of potential romances and one sided love affairs to go around in Geass' great cast. Potential turn off = mecha. Otherwise enjoy a great show.

An intelligent man (Lelouch for Code: Geass, and Lawrence for Spice and Wolf) meets an extraordinary woman (C.C. for the former, and Holo for the latter). Together they venture for their goals. If you like main characters that think of elaborate, well-though out plans, these anime are worth a watch. Although Spice and Wolf is leaning towards Romance. The main plot may differ by a lot, but the idea is somewhat similar if you look at it. Also, both Male MC's are voiced by the same VA, which makes it that much awesome.

Yusei and Lelouch live in an ordinary life in areas that are under oppression (Satellite and Area 11) only to involve a bigger journey where they form their teams (Team 5Ds and Black Knights) to change the world. 5ds and CG have plot twists, thrilling moments, sad and depressing themes, action, and morality that will keep you on your toes in all times just like I have. Note that Aki looks just like Kallen! Rival is the same as well as their cast.

I was actually kinda shocked with how similar these two shows were (especially considering the two are different genres). Code Geass and Umineko are both genius concepts, wrapped in mindless and over-the-top violence... with a nice garnish of mind-screw. Code Geass is about one man's battle against a corrupt empire while Umineko is about one man's battle against a powerful witch. In fact, without even looking at the shows as a whole, you could draw similarities between Lelouch Lamperouge/Vi Britannia and Battler Ushiromiya. Both are highly intelligent, though stubborn and arrogant. Both also care about those close to them, and this care leads to some reckless decisions.  read more

I gotta say, you might want to skip trough the episodes of the first season (except episode one) of OnS, because before ep.10, s1 most of the plot is not very spectacular I guess..However, S2 definitely rocks big time. Here is why: - two guys who were childhood friends end up on opposites site of a battle ( Lelouch/Suzaku...) - seems like everyone wants to rule the world. Both of these wonderful series are very unique among mecha anime, in that they do what most don't do that often: Mix two polar oppisate genres (Science Fiction and Fantasy), and do it wonderfully well. The mecha desgins for both have a royal, fantasy asthetic to them, and both shows have very eleborate settings and well developed characters and themes. Even if you aren't particularly interested in mecha anime as a genre, you will find something to like in both of these.

While in Code Geass, "the magic" is the Geass and is in the hands of the Empire itself, in Hametsu no Oukoku, magic is persecuted; however, both protagonists use this "magic" or superhuman power against the rest. Both deal with rebellions and knights of a certain kingdom, and of that kingdom's revolution to an extent. They also both contain fantasy elements

Both shows deal with political complexities, conquest, and war. While Code Geass takes place in an alternate Earth time line, Kiba deals with another world entirely. Kiba has Spirits rather than the mecha of Code Geass and the plots are quite different. Geass has more comic relief and variety of mood but both share underlying supernatural mysteries, tragic events, and dark themes. Both shows also have a set of friends (Lelouch and Suzaku in Geass, Zed and Noa in Kiba) who get caught up in different affiliations and have to struggle with their ideals and values versus friendship and loyalty.

Both leading males (Lelouch and Keita) have dealt with immense suffering throughout their lifetimes, both lost their mothers tragically. When their lives get changed by mysterious girls (Kuro and C.C), their true potentials are revealed. Both are produced by Sunrise, and licensed by Bandai.

the maincharacters are alike. they both have a supernatrual eye and they have personalities thet remind you of one another. also the animes give of the same feeling.

In both anime, the main male lead has an eye that gives them the ability to command people (though in Rental Magica, Itsuki just becomes more confident, thus being able to issue commands.) The eyes the characters have are also red and are both said to eventually cause the owners to become insane. Itsuki and Lelouch are also voiced by the same seiyuu, Jun Fukuyama. However, Code Geass is more about freedom and battle while Rental Magica focuses on the cases Astral receives. I would recommend anyone who has seen either of these anime to watch the other.

In a manner similar to the popular Death Note, the protagonists of both these series play mind games with enemies and are willing to cheat and break them.

Though there is a lot of action, both series are more about drama. Characters you've known for multiple episodes will suddenly kick the bucket. That said, half the cast could have been easily replaced by redshirts and no one would have noticed.

Why help those who have turned their backs on us? The setting of a dystopian society and the main character's attempts to restore the city to its former glory. We must fight for the innocent and to fulfill our mission. No matter what the costs, we will fight for our comrades and to live another day in content. With our powers, we can achieve the impossible goal. Even with our dorky companions and lovers fighting with us, we will prevail.

If you liked Lelouch Lamperouge as a character, you'll probably like Victorique de Blois as well. She's a nice character whose is very intelligent and better of all - she's moe. Very moe. Although she is more near to Lawliet from Death Note it's also some enjoyable motivation to watch Gosick.

While the plot of these two are completely different, there are some similarities, - main character is the commander of a group, during battle, he/she commands others to do things and outwits the opponent - both use machines, tank in GUP, and Nightmares in C geass - during battle the atmosphere is similar, but completely diff outside of battle

Lelouch (Zero) and Bruce Wayne (Batman) are very similar but in a different world, different style, different setting, and mostly a different universe. They have a strong sense of justice by becoming vigilantes and not heroes because they have used the concept "ends justify the means" to defeat evil. Also instead of using superpowers, they mostly use gadgets despite Lelouch uses a supernatural power geass (which is not an ordinary superpower but an optical eye power). They are both geniuses living a rich life with a partner along with advanced technology. However Lelouch and Bruce later faces a series of events that will forever change  read more

Show may be different due to it's differences but the main Characters Lelouch and Suzaku's ideals and friendship are similar to Yuri and Flynn where Lelouch and Yuri wants to change from the outside and Suzaku and Flynn wants to change within. Both are awesome where it involves battles, politics, corruption, drama, blood, loss of allies, and friendship.

Both MCs lead double lives of sorts, living a regular high school life but also being a major player in more serious behind the scenes happenings. Both have vibrant and lovable characters with impeccable character designs. Both have gorgeous art styles with great & unique OSTs.

Both feature protagonists that become the leader and symbol of hope in a rebellion, whilst maintaining a close relationship to someone on the opposing side. These protagonists often achieve their goals through ridiculous or outrageous schemes that the other side was not expecting.

Main protagonist has same seiyuu (voice actor), story lines both involve a contract between the heroine and protagonist in attempt to change the world. Though Code Geass is in a more modern setting, both stories involve nobility and social hierarchy. Highly recommend Code Geass if you enjoy a story revolving around what defines justices, right or wrong and a hero attempting to change the world they live in!

Lelouch has the Geass super power which has an absolute obedience that works once whilst in UN-GO, the detective has an absolute truthful answer that works once as well. The plot, age difference and genre is completely different but there are some similarities in the powers.

i think those two anime are alike because they both have a deep meaningful plot. overall art, story , and the imagination-world are all necessary to define a well value anime. this recommendation isn't based on just a fanboy expressions but a well belief of knowing what is great.

If you like a good story with great action, dialogue, and a well drawn plot, CG and HU may be the shows for you to watch. After watching both, I began to see similarities as both are set in a modern setting with fictional elements mostly that has to do with myths and supernatural powers. Other than just mindless fighting and massive chaos, methodical fights and tactics come into play as well. The story starts off similar and ends in a twisted manner which goes the same for CG R2.

In the both animes, there are some tactics during the fights. The principals characters are tacticians but not for the same reasons.

Like Code Geass, Zoids: Genesis involves a young boy who is wrenched straight from his everyday life and is drawn into the conflict between a major military power and those who oppose it. Both characters go on to become major leaders in the resistance movements. Ruuji Familon lives a quiet life in the village of Mirodoo, until, just after they have raised a large Zoid from the depths of the ocean, they are attacked by the vicious Bio Zoids of the Digald Empire. The Zoid they just raised, Murasame Liger, selects Ruuji as its pilot.

Both are deconstructions of the Mecha genre, both have a main character who are fighting a near impossible force, and both are all around great. Only issue with Code Geass is R2. For god's sake, avoid it.

Code Geass and Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations are similar in someway whereas the main setting Japan which Tokyo is part of is in a desperate state (Japan is colonized in Code Geass and Tokyo is in ruins in Tsubasa: Tokyo Revelations) as groups such as the Black Knights and Kamui's and Fuma's respective parties search for a way to restore their homes back to normal. Lelouch's character design is similar to Kamui and Suzaku's to Syaoran due to Clamp doing both the character designs. The feel of both anime is similar at times, aswell as some of the styles of animation used during the action scenes. They are both pretty serious and rarely detract from the main plot for the sake of humour. They are both action packed and visually impressive. They both deal a lot with the morals and philosophy around war and fighting. Both of the main protagonists are in high school, and are chosen by a very powerful and beautiful female assistant, who begins the series far more powerful than them, but the gap bridges as the series progresses. These female assistants are similar in demeanour,  read more

let me start by saying this: These anime are totally different in genre; Oregairu is school slice-of-life and Code Geass is sci-fi war now here's why they're similar: the main characters are both the good guys with good intentions, but they play the roles of the villains in order to help others by becoming hated, and also, the main side-male character plays the role of the good guy who is against the main characters' decisions even though they know their intentions

These two are my all time favorite anime (well, season 2 of Code Geass if I had to choose). They make me feel so much emotion, and I just love the ending in both. And if you liked Natsuno and Tooru from Shiki, then you'll probably like Lelouch and Suzaku from Code Geass, and vice versa. Both of these animes gave you a choice, to choose which side you root for. This choice will seem like: "Oh yeah, I totally think this side is correct", but after a while, you might not be so sure. And don't be affected by the 'vampire' genre in shiki,  read more

In both the main character is a kind of "genius" with great ability to handle difficult situations: resolving unsolvable puzzles (Phi Brain) or build real-time strategy (Code Geass). In both the main character deals with someone in closing a "contract" and gives him an "eye-power": C.C. gives to Lelouch the Geass in his left eye and when it's activated it turns red (Code Geass); Something like this happens to Kaito when he solves a puzzle and the prize was a kind of bracelet with the power of make Kaito's brain works to max of levels, and when it's activated his right eye turns red too.

Because its unique and i love the plot/story! I don't even know how to explain my excitement to you, because this anime, IS A MUST. If you're an otaku, then you must definitely watch this, but if you watched this already then read the manga, there's a lot of twists and cliffhangers though, and you have to wait for it to update and stuffs like that, but the best part is, ITS WORTH IT.

Both series were written by Ichiro Okouchi, who reused many of the same ideas present in Code Geass. Most notably the alternate history setting with a macguffin (Sakuradite in Code Geass, the C-ball in Princess Principal) to allow for the futuristic tech in Code Geass (despite being set in our equivalent of the 1960s) or steampunk in the alternate late 1800s in Princess Principal. Both series feature alternate versions of the British Empire with the Holy Britannian Empire of Code Geass being a global superpower and the Britain in Princess Principal being split up much like East/West Germany. Each has their moments of comedic relief and also the dark side of human nature between the protaganist and antagonist. Though Code Geass and D.Gray-Man take place in different times and location, there are still some similiarities between the two as both each has a special ability linked with their eyes and both face great enemies such as The Earl in D.Gray-Man, and The Emperor of Britannia Charles Di Britannia.
