This series honour the genre it belongs, sci-fi space opera, it covers very well the comon elements like the growth of the hero (in this case Rai or Thunderjet) the political matters in war times (in this case mixed with feudal Japan and China settings) the action in battles both with spaceships and close combat with swords and the drama implied in a war of winning and losing battles and sometimes losing the life of important or dear persons like the leaders and the love interest or friends.
The story never slows down and keeps us always interested even if it change sometimes the mood going read more

This is one of the anime that I grew up with. I remembered that I watched this when I was in elementary. (am i that old already?) Anyways, even though that it was way long ago, this anime was stamped in my memories, why?

I love how the story went on. It will not give you any chance to be bored. The setting may not be your usual setting because its like the old history meets the sci-fi setting which kind of unique. I did put it in my 'plan to watch' list for months. As i like anime with more than 26 episodes and the synopsis is good, attempted to watch it. Along the series i did feel bored till the 'genius' counsellor gets introduced into the anime. But still it lacked many interesting points.

1. the sword fighting is too bad. You don't know why his sword moves were exaggerated. All other characters whom the leoray fights were more powerful than him.
2. Leoray is war maniac how could the princess forgive him is nonsense.
3. All the strong characters were solely neglected
4. subs were too bad.
