Sadly I have a negative opinion of SAO because its terrible. It fails to capture the essence of the environment in which the characters are in i.e. a fight for their lives. It has nothing to do with an pre-conceived expectations that I had for the series, and I think many people will argue that also.

Both arcs end abruptly without a thorough explanation of the events which led to them reaching specific floors or how is it possible for a person to trap people in a game without the world taking action against them.

The characters are oblivious to the seriousness of the situation in which they find themselves in. Things like searching for animals across floors are negligible to a person who is forcefully trapped in an environment which they don't want to be in, which they know if they happen to suffer some form of harm will lead to their demise.

It is not a romance shounen but a terrible attempt at a harem anime. SAO or Sex Art Online as I have started referring to it to myself, is nothing more than a bunch of episodes following Kirto's adventures into the beds of minor girls.

It has bad villains just like one-piece. The 'antagonists' if you can call them as such of both arcs, are one of the worst villains in the history of anime. One a bored gamer with no goals, another a criminal who considers kidnapping as a way of expressing love.

Oh my gosh, finally someone who understands it for SAO.

I totally agree with your statement on people going in with the wrong expectations. Most reviews(obviously negative) I've seen of the series all too often include "I was so disappointed with this series" in some form. Judging from Toonami and MyAnimeList's synopsis, I can see why they'd be disappointed from it not being what it said, but still, the utter amounts of hatred is just ridiculous.
