same miilitary genre..tragic past..flashbacks.. supernatural ability..Similiar uniforms and even music in the background.
Both series deal with supernatural abilities in a war setting. In each series, best friends become separated by events beyond their control (ie. war). The style of the art and animations is very similar and even the uniforms they wear are quite similar.

Two best friends - one a tactical genius with a tragic past, ripped apart by a war they're both swept up in. Characters have a supernatural ability. The art style and uniforms are extremely similar.
Both main characters were first in the empire ruling and then, after the killing of someone close to them, both turned against them and swore to avenge.

07-Ghost follows the almost exact same pattern as Code Geass. Even though they have nothing to do with each other production-wise, They are oddly alike in almost every aspect. Granted, Code Geass is generally a better series due to the fact that it was made by better producers. Everything is similar; from the "fantasy world", to the characters, the overall mood to the show, the style of the clothes and art, backround music, and even the voice actors!!! It's like another Code Geass . . . only completely different!!!! (if that makes sense ^ ^)

Both series have a powerful, heavily military-focussed "Empire" (Barsburg or Brittanian), trying to take over the world. Both have rampant imperialism, loyal-to-the-death soldiers, and so on, and this is a major theme. Additionally, both empires are portayed in a somewhat good light in the first episode, although this quickly changes- our protagonists fight the oppression, if in slightly different ways.
But other than the similarities between the content of the two series, I'd also recommend them based on the cliffhanger-type nature of the ending of each episode, and...

This anime is very very similar to Code Geass in my personal opinion.
Both have two characters that start out as friends and get separated, a war happened 10 years ago. The main character of each anime get/have a special ability that they use often.
Both anime's have the main character wanting to save their friends except in code Geass Suzaku and Lelouch get into some arguments and issues begin. In 07 Ghost instead of separating in a fight way, two friends Mikage and Teito get separated in another manner.
So far I really have enjoyed both animes and recommend one for another.
