Synopsis

A fresh high school year always means much to come, and one of those things is joining a club. Being in a dilemma about which club to join, Yui Hirasawa stumbles upon and applies for the Light Music Club, which she misinterprets to be about playing simple instruments, such as castanets. Unable to play an instrument, she decides to visit to apologize and quit.

Meanwhile, the Light Music Club faces disbandment due to a lack of members. This causes the club members to offer anything, from food to slacking off during club time, in order to convince Yui to join. Despite their efforts, Yui insists on leaving due to her lack of musical experience. As a last resort, they play a piece for Yui, which sparks her fiery passion and finally convinces her to join the club.

From then onward, it is just plain messing around with bits and pieces of practice. The members of the Light Music Club are ready to make their time together a delightful one!

TLDR; good background noise, distinct characters, realistic personalities, pioneer moeblobs.

I'm going to be completely honest, if you want anything remotely plot driven I'd stay far away from k-on or any other moeblobs. K-on excels at being something you put on in the background while doing homework and glance over to every once in a while to see something cute.

Though, unlike other moeblobs the characters actually feel like characters. I could describe a distinct character trait each of them have, and the show often plays into them instead of ignoring them, which moeblobs still don't often do. The character designs are also pretty good, even ...

I can't say it's great, but K-On! is a must-watch if you're interested in the medium's history.

§ Overview

We start with Hirasawa Yui who is looking to join a club. Upon stumbling on the Light Music [軽音楽 (read as karuii ongaku), or K-On! ] Club, Yui thought it's just about simple instruments. Gathering enough people for saving the club, this begins a great friendship among the members.

§ Notes

1. Kyoto Animation is renowned for its great art direction and animation, and this anime is no exception. At first glance, there seems to be nothing to write home about. But when you think about all the details, ...

The way I look at things, getting children into music is never a bad thing, it gives them something to focus on, enhances the brain and can be a future for some, be it as a musician or any of the jobs with a musical need. Well at least thats before starting K-On, some ways should't be used to get kids into music, especially when it dumbs it down to the lowest level.

Story - 2/10

Even though the show sells itself as a music/band show, a majority of the time it's a slice of life/school show, with just a bit of musical talk in-between.

It's not a ...
