Trying to catch up with anime:
1. currently airing seasonals
2. modern classics (2000s onwards)
3. rewatching anime I watched in childhood as well as those anime that was shown on local TV but either I wasn't interested to watch back then or failed to watch
4. golden age (70s to 90s) anime that were not broadcast on local tv.

How I rate things. It's mostly if I enjoy it or not plus if I am impressed with a few technical stuff: story, animation, art direction, cinematography and editing, and any socio-political message either explicitly or subtext, or perhaps I love a certain character.
Note also that I don't rate anime based on certain rubrics such as this is 7/10 for animation, 6/10 for story then average all that. Based on my whim and my gut feel, I tend to weigh different criteria differently depending on the anime.
Thus, these numbers are ordinal numbers rather than cardinal numbers, i.e. I am rating each anime not only by itself but also in relation to other anime I rated thus far and, in the case of seasonal anime, how I rate or will rate other anime in the season.
10 = Critically acclaimed masterpiece that I also enjoyed or an anime I enjoyed so much and spoke to my deepest values that I choose to ignore perceived flaws
9 = really great and perhaps other people's 10 or critically acclaimed but did not win my heart as much as 10s
8 = very good or I would have rated a 7 but it has great visuals
7 = good
6 = slightly better than average; it's a decent score
5 = passing score; enjoyable to a certain extent and still worth watching despite defects or perhaps it should technically be higher but I did not like a thing or two such as the message
4 = can be enjoyed to some extent but the flaws are more glaring than those in my 5's
3 = liked by others and have some merits but did not click with me
2 = really bored; perhaps it didn't make sense even if there are fun elements
1 = objectively appalling and/or my subjective experience with it is so appalling

Hey, how's it going? What are you watching or reading right now?
hi! I cannot comment back because we're not friends and I can't add you, nor can I send this message.
Anyway, K-On! popularised the CGDCT genre. I didn't exactly enjoy it, but I suppose it's an important anime because other people I know rave about it more than a decade after it aired.
For better or worse, some people refer to it as a foundational moe anime: https://www.reddit.com/r/anime/comments/fpfewy/unoriginal_opinion_kon_is_the_foundational_moe/
It is mostly of historical interest. I enjoyed more Girls und Panzer, which is CGDCT with tanks with the similar moe designs.
K-on can be mindless fun. It's is mostly plotless. I understand that it's all about their relationships.
But if you're pressed for time, it might feel like a waste of time.
No worries man, always happy to accept any requests and wishing you a very Happy New Year. You can hit me up anytime if you want to discuss anything related to anime.
