Toradora!

Ryuuji Takasu is a gentle high school student with a love for housework; but in contrast to his kind nature, he has an intimidating face that often gets him labeled as a delinquent. On the other hand is Taiga Aisaka, a small, doll-like student, who is anything but a cute and fragile girl. Equipped with a wooden katana and feisty personality, Taiga is known throughout the school as the "Palmtop Tiger."

One day, an embarrassing mistake causes the two students to cross paths. Ryuuji discovers that Taiga actually has a sweet side: she has a crush on the popular vice president, Yuusaku Kitamura, who happens to be his best friend. But things only get crazier when Ryuuji reveals that he has a crush on Minori Kushieda—Taiga's best friend!

Toradora! is a romantic comedy that follows this odd duo as they embark on a quest to help each other with their respective crushes, forming an unlikely alliance in the process.

You haven't seen this anime yet? You are either young, fresh into anime, or were like me: a 90's anime fan that dropped this show.
Well, I finally gave it a honest try.

Characters: 9/10
Story: 9/10

Character Development: 10/10
Realist human emotions: 10/10
Realistic problems: 10/10

Toradora! was actually a breath of fresh air from current 2020's romance anime. If your reading this then like me you probably just needed that final push. Well, don't drop it this time if you had. Give it a few episodes.

It is not an "enemies to lovers" anime like people will claim. Watch it and you will understand.
What I think this show did best was the romantic feelings felt real and natural. It wasn't sudden, it wasn't forced, it had it's ups and downs. Taiga and Ryuuji feel like real people with real problems that are genuinely trying their best to figure it all out.

I give it a 10/10 overall but it's probably more of a 9/10. But this felt so natural to me compared to the last 20 romance anime I've seen so I wanted to give it that extra bump. Plus I think it's a rewatchable show that you could catch any episode randomly and enjoy it.

Mixed Feelings

I WAS SO UPSET ABOUT THIS. I gave it a second chance because I thought that I was being grumpy when I gave up after episode 1 a few years ago, - I finished it this year and it was not worth all the 24 episodes I have to endure. I am sorry but it was so boring, I think it could have been better if it was like 12 episodes or something... But the main couple was cute, okay. Ii wish we could have seen them more though because we don't get to see how they manage their couple. I also like the dynamics ... with the characters we first don't really like, with the sudden character development that makes us like them in the end.

Either you were around back when it first started and got interested because everyone kept calling Taiga "moe" and you couldn't escape the many many many youtube clips and gifs on tumblr or you're one of those newgens who start having a violent panic attack anytime you see a certain 4 letter word...weakling.

Toradora suuuuuuuuuuuucks...mostly. It has good moments but the bad moments stick out so damn hard that it gets exhausting.

Taiga is cute and that's it. The romance is cute and that's it. It is good at being cute and even then it's not like it ... particularly excels at cuteness. It is ok and that's it...until it starts having the balls to take itself seriously when it really doesn't deserve to. Anytime something actually related to romantic drama occurs it shits the bed every. single. time.

Toradora is one of the anime you find when you're still a teenager and haven't watched many romance anime or haven't interacted much with romantic media in general. This is a show that only really appeals to teenagers and people who no longer keep up with anime and only vaguely remember having a good time with the shows they watched before having to face the real world and now only occasionally check out anime that happens to find itself onto Netflix.

In other words, it's a show that is only good if you are new to anime and haven't formed any sort of tastebuds yet for what you'd actually enjoy.

There are many other romance anime, especially nowadays, that does what Toradora does but doesn't suck utter and complete ass randomly.
