| The following is a complete list of all title changes, even very minor ones, that need to be made to anime database entires on MAL in order to match the guidelines and maintain a general consistency.. Unless noted, the source of all of these is the Japanese Wikipedia page or the AniDB page of each entry. This includes: -Titles that should be switched from English → Romanised titles. Most of the time, not every single thing in a franchise is licensed, and many English titles MAL uses are incorrect, even if very slightly. It's also inconsistent and often messy. -Correcting Romanisation errors. -Capitalisation errors. -Adding sub-titles (mainly to OVAs/specials, but there are a few TV series too) where needed. Occasionally main titles need to be added too. -Adding/removing colons where needed (generally before "The Animation"), as well as general punctuation fixes. -Adding symbols, such as ☆ or ♡. -Fixing consistency errors, such as how 第0話 (Episode 0) is displayed. -Probably other things, as well. It's perfectly understandable as to why all this inconsistency and these many errors came about. There are over 10,000 entires in MAL's anime database, after all! However, now that the moderator team has expanded, and MAL is looking to be at least somewhat professional (from my understanding anyway lol), I figure it would be a good opportunity to fix the errors present. It's nobody's fault and is all down to the way humans to things. This isn't a gripe/complaint, I'm simply trying to make things easier to fix for those who have the ability/time to do so. I have absolutely nothing better to do with my life, so why not? And this way, there's no excuse not to fix things -- other than, of course, laziness (which we're all guilty of, so I get it). To make things easier, franchises will be grouped together in this list, even if they may not be in the actual database. This way it's convenient to check things with similar titles. Entires that require title fixing are in alphabetical order (with the exceptions of Gundam and Precure), and franchises are separated by --. Note that this is purely about fixing the main title (the one that shows up on lists) and not, say, official English titles or the Japanese title (which, with the inclusion of Chinese and Korean animation in MAL's database, should probably be changed to something more inclusive). Speaking of foreign animation, I should point out that I possess absolutely zero Chinese (any dialect) or Korean skills, so I have used http://www.pin1yin1.com/ and http://www.kawa.net/works/ajax/romanize/hangul-e.html for Romanisation where required to create at least some consistency with those, but I can't vouch for how accurate they are. If someone has any idea, or has better resources, please let me know. Also let me know if there are any errors or if anything's missing. My Japanese level is moderate and I tried my best, but there may be things that slipped by. I will also try to keep this list updated, and things that have been fixed will be placed down the bottom. Hopefully, one day, there won't be anything left in the anime database that needs fixing. That's my dream MAL. I know that that day's very far off, but hey, I can dream. At the very least I would like to play a part in reducing the amount of things that need fixing, even if just a little bit. There are currently ~3,400 titles that require fixing. |

If someone has any idea, or has better resources, please let me know. Can you separate the Chinese and Korean entries into another section? I use MDBG for Chinese as it can identify compound words and variations in reading. For Korean, I input individual characters into Wiktionary and use the Revised Romanization standard. |

| The Evangelion rebuilds is a different situation with Japanese titles, the logos of the film in Japanese still include the numbering and phrases used currently. The title you're trying to change it to is not necessarily correct, since MAL standard doesn't use Gekijouban, except for manga for some bizarre reason. Don't think the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise will be changed anytime soon though, they would've switched to Japanese titles a long time ago but still haven't, so they're definitely aware and don't want to do it. It makes no sense to change Dattebayo to Datteba yo, it's clearly just an expression and not even a real word, you can't try to make it seem grammatically correct. Also changing Road to Ninja makes no sense with the other entries, it should still be Naruto Shippuuden Movie if the others aren't changed as well, if anything it should be Road to Ninja: Naruto the Movie. Some of your changes are too ridiculous to even try to dispute them all though, making this big of a dump will likely lead to rejections. |

| Oh hey, I guess I should actually look at the threads I start. @kuuderes_shadow: Most of the ones you noted were typos/mistakes, definitely didn't mean for it to be that sloppy. However a couple I should address: -Toradora! should technically be Toradra! since it's short for Tora & Dragon, and the "dra" part is a loanword. Even though nobody calls it that, ever. -Why doesn't 2-threa-me (or maybe 2 Threa-me) work? スレ is slang for "thread" and 2スレ目 means "2nd Thread". -ドッと is Romanised as "." right on the logo, though. @arsonal: Will get back to you on this at some point. @Jerkhov: -Yeah, the Evangelion rebuilds are confusing. Some days I wish MAL would just change everything to Gekijouban or whatever... Don't get why the manga database uses it though, but they're even messier. -Gundam should be changed, even though there are heaps of them. They changed all of Pokemon (albeit it should be Pocket Monsters since that's the Japanese title) so there's no excuse to not change Gundam imo. Will go through and fix mistakes I made after this post. |
