Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Hunters devote themselves to accomplishing hazardous tasks, all from traversing the world's uncharted territories to locating rare items and monsters. Before becoming a Hunter, one must pass the Hunter Examination—a high-risk selection process in which most applicants end up handicapped or worse, deceased.

Ambitious participants who challenge the notorious exam carry their own reason. What drives 12-year-old Gon Freecss is finding Ging, his father and a Hunter himself. Believing that he will meet his father by becoming a Hunter, Gon takes the first step to walk the same path.

During the Hunter Examination, Gon befriends the medical student Leorio Paladiknight, the vindictive Kurapika, and ex-assassin Killua Zoldyck. While their motives vastly differ from each other, they band together for a common goal and begin to venture into a perilous world.

I just want to write a short review about this one. I think this title deserves it.

In the beginning i didn't know what to expect from this tv show. I started to like it, when we first time see Leorio and Kurapika (i really liked fun in the first part of this anime). It was really fun, i could watch it anytime, no matter my mood and it was really good (if you like to laugh you definitely should watch this).

For me there are like 5 main parts of this show: Hunter exam, Yornkowa trades, Game Island, Ants and short, but not less important final ... part. I was like very happy to watch next episodes until i saw few episodes of the Game. It was still good, but i didn't feel flow anymore, don't blame me. Final part of the show was good also, so i had mixed feeling at the end. Could not rate this anime as i thought. I decided to set it on 7 (for me it's like 7.5/10) - around 80 episodes of the show was really good and fun, but the rest was just fine.

There are many characters, that you can either love or hate (so many individuals, which are intresting). The story is like adventure (simple, but unexpected and the final part show that there is many more to see and discover).
My top 3 characters are:
1. Hisoka, 2. Kite, 3.Leorio/Killua

As a conclusive. In my opinion you should watch Hunter x Hunter, cause it is very good title, don't mind my score (in my mind it was really similiar to Naruto Shippuuden - in the meaning of having fun).

Mixed Feelings

After the anime turned into a zoo it became impossible to watch.

It sure is an anime amongst anime, it influenced many works and is widely popular.
Until Greedo Island arc it was a 10, a masterpiece. Then there’s what could be the worst arc ever made, the ants arc.

I know that filler episodes exist. But now, a whole filler arc!?
A bunch of hideous creatures, a lot of new unimportant characters, whole episodes that focus in the same conversation between the same two characters, fights that last multiple episodes, slow motion important scenes with the narrator describing every detail…
Why the main characters Leorio, Kurapika and the ... phantom troupe are absent for roughly 60 episodes? What is it that Gon cares SO much for this Kite guy? Ugh.

This last impression destroyed the image of how good this anime was for me. Unfortunately. If I knew about it I would’ve skipped this whole arc.

For the last 10 episodes I was already fed up and didn’t care about the elections plot and focused only in the story between Killua and Alluka, which was good.

A generally beloved piece of media.
But the show suffers fundamentaly at several levels.
Like a castle made on sand.

# Plot
•Simple plot of a young boy venturing into the unknown with a dreams and making friends alongside. (Nothing new.)
An abrupt story divided into arcs which seem more like random jigsaw fitted without prior planning.

• The other major problems arises from instantaneous nature of writing.
At time arc is concluded without giving proper conclusion.
...
• Pacing: one of the worst I have seen.
The majority of show is Chimera arc which spends most of its time building up for a great war. But when the war does happen, it is few disconnected fight sequences. Rendering everything a grand waste of time.
Also all arcs aren't not that good in maintaining a continuous narrative.

# Character
• many would consider it great because the lead 4 have been given character development. But that's not true either.
• leorio wasn't developed much after a certain degree.
• Gon, even after much time being invested, remains a typical shonen protagonist with whimsical attitude. Only acting on emotions. Like how that single meeting with Kite made him so obsessed with killing Neferpitou, while risking his life.
• Killua: he is great.
• kurapika.
• hisoka: ☠️
• Mereum: great antagonist but character development was little pushed. Literally brought back to life.
• Netero:
• other than these, all other characters aren't even worth mentioning.

# World building
Nen is a son of Force of star wars. Everything can be explained by it.
Too free of world building. Does not even tries to be self consistent. Like Spider are wanted but they went to an auction, no problem there.
Nen can make 4th dimensional pocket, lighting, you name it.
What is a hunter? They can be literally anithing, then what is the point of making distinction.

#Conflict
Not much here, only a half harzard war.

# Theme
friendship, love, revenge, etc (nothing new here either.)

# Conclusion:
Severe narrative problems with shallow themes.
