Damn that was good.

Really liked Konatsu in this episode. Her rakugo felt modern and fresh. Maybe that's what rakugo needs to survive. ^_______^

Timeskip ? Why?
Shrug... I'm quite disappointed. It was feel rushed, literally little happening, and I'm surprised with drastic change in Konatsu's personality.

I can understand why Konatsu is emotionally attached to the idea of Rakugo she grew up with (an art performed by men using old, or even ancient scripts) and thus feels like introducing female performers would sully the genre, hence why she was so hellbent on giving birth to a male heir that would inherit her dad's innate talent and get to grow up hearing Yakumo's rakugo. That being said I can't agree with her on this, as her performance clearly showed that the art is in dire need of fresh new blood and that a younger audience will positively receive this more modern approach. When the new generation gets used to the idea that new texts and new types of performers can do rakugo, that's when and where the seeds of change are not only planted but allowed to grow. As such, it would be a shame if Yakumo, in his eagerness to take rakugo to the grave with him, were to kill the art instead of letting him be reborn and revitalized.

Once again, another great episode whose highlight was without doubt Konatsu's energetic and hilarious performance.

Konatsu really loves rakugo. :')
Cute moment when she was done with her performance and she was so happy about having performed in front of people.

Her child is cute but I can't tell if he's more adorable or bratty. He kind of straddled the line a bit here.

btw that Hii-san dude (writer) I couldn't stop noticing those POINTY teeth, they were strangely off-putting
he did seem to have jagged teeth at times before but they were so prominent in this ep.
i'm not sure if it's a fringe case scenario of a slip in visual quality unlikely? or another foreshadowing technique because honestly he's looking more predatory as the years go by...

Yeah, he's a real creep and I feel like in his attempt to modernize rakugo he's actually going to do more harm than good.

Am I the only one slightly annoyed by the kids facial expressions after the timeskip?

That's not cute or adorable to me but more like smug little shit but I know I got problems when it comes to kids in anime anyways...

Otherwise really good episode, glad to see Konatsu getting some focus and she looks way more gorgeous now than before.

lmao yeah. He does have a smug face. Must take after his grandpa. :D

Fantastic episode. Happy for Konatsu. Protect that smile! And shout-outs to Kobayashi Yuu for her incredible performance this episode. She should be seiyuu of the year!

Tbh, Yota would look more like Sukeroku with his long hair.

Nice too see Konatsu loosening up in terms of emotions and facial expressions after time skip.
For a moment, when she stepped on stage, I wished to not let embarrass yourself during the performance but it turned out better than expected :D

Now that hug at the end made it look more family like :)

Konatsu's performance was charming. Kudos to her voice actress!

Considering Konatsu's step up, the world of rakugo is definitely heading in an interesting direction. Particularly as that writer is intent on having his stories staged.

Konatsu's Rakugo literally made this episode the best one so far in this sequel! It was so good!
And here I thought we would never get those wonderful pieces like in the first cour.

Have to wonder though, it has been five years already - and nothing still happened between them, right?
I want to hope that hug was the hint of things to come but I bet they would have to do with Yakumo first, he's quite an old already, right? (been some 15 years since the start of this show.. those are like eighties now, 1985 or something, right?)
Shouwa ended in 1989 when emperor Hirohito died. I wonder if this series also ends with that.

And anyone interested in Jugemu, it was originally like this:

A couple could not think of a suitable name for their newborn baby boy, so the father went to the temple and asked the chief priest to think of an auspicious name. The priest suggested several names, beginning with Jugemu. The father could not decide which name he preferred, and therefore gave the baby all of the names. One day, Jugemu falls into a lake and his parents barely arrive in time to save him because everyone has trouble reciting his name.

Jugemu's full name is as follows:

Jugemu-jugemu
Gokōnosurikire
Kaijarisuigyo-no Suigyōmatsu
Unraimatsu Fūraimatsu
Kūnerutokoroni-sumutokoro
Yaburakōjino-burakōji
Paipopaipo-paiponoshūringan
Shūringanno-gūrindai: Gūrindaino-ponpokopīno-ponpokonāno

I think the part of it is due to the scene happening from Yakumo's perspective: Hii-san represents everything that Yakumo fears. For Yakumo who wants to take Rakugo to grave with him, Hii-san must feel like a grave robber.

Not that it doesn't mean that he isn't dangerous: he might make Rakugo more popular, but popularity is known to corrupt art, especially in the modern era.

Shinnosuke's a big boy now! My, my time has passed by really quickly. He's also a little charmer, "take it out of my dad's paycheck" LOL!

Yotarou getting excited because their son can recite rakugo. He even calls Yakumo "ji-ji!" OMG! So frikkin' cute!

It kind of makes me wonder why Yakumo is rich? Does he make a lot of money as the head of the rakugo association and as a storyteller?

Yakumo is very conservative and doesn't want rakugo to survive so the pushy Eisuke Higuchi is a bother to someone like him.

Konatsu finally performed rakugo! It's so sweet that her first stage is at her son's elementary school. All the kids at the school were so cute. And that hug between Yotarou and Konatsu, awwwww. <3

This is still the best eps for me this season.
Shin-chan is adorable but after all, this is a Konatsu-episode. I really love it tbh.

The moment she is almost crying hit me hard , like the dream that you are chasing for a long time finally achieved. Konatsu's rakugo flows very well and powerful. Thumbs up for her voice actor.

The scene when Yotaro hugged her is a really touching moment. Feels train is coming, hope it will deliver the remaining 8.

5/5 to the next episode...

I've wanted Konatsu to be able to do rakugo since the first episode of the first season! I'm glad we finally got to see her perform.

I feel like Konatsu isn't doing rakugo because she's afraid of what Kikuhiko will say. Has Kikuhiko become the antagonist of the story with his whole trying to kill off rakugo/not being able to change with the times thing?

The mention of Kikuhiko doing a bawdy story in front of Konatsu's kid...I was fully expecting him to start sharing it around with the other kindergarteners or something.

Konatsu and Yotaro are SO CUTE together. I love it. Konatsu better stop being a tsundere and just admit she likes Yotaro soon. It's pretty funny their kid is a "genius" too. As much as Yakumo wants rakugo to die, I don't see that happening anytime soon, especially with the popularity Yotaro seems to be bringing in. Konatsu also did rakugo in public, which is a big step forward for her. I'm going to guess she will do more public rakugo. Maybe she will be a surprise member of that family rakugo performance?

I was tearing up over the loss of Shin while Konatsu was performing her rakugo. This is such a powerful show with one of the most believable, "human" casts I've ever seen. Easily one of the most poignant and meaningful journeys I've ever been taken on by the animated medium.

Sweet episode, favorite episode of this season so far. Konatsu finally got the chance to do some rakugo in front of a crowd, which really was one of her dreams that she never got to accomplish till now since rakugo is something men mainly performed and she only used to do it in front of her father when she was a kid. It may have been a bit forced upon when Yotarou suddenly gave her the opportunity to perform Jugemu at her son's school but man, she took advantage of it and absolutely killed it with the performance, she was great. She was nervous and shy initially but expressed a ton of passion and fun through her performance and it reflected really well on the kids who enjoyed her performance a ton too, especially her son Shin. The hug at the end with Konatsu and her husband was a nice way to wrap the moment up with a bow, she was genuinely happy that she got to be the performer for once and have the support of her husband to push for something she loved, even if it was only for that moment.
