Kimetsu no Yaiba

Ever since the death of his father, the burden of supporting the family has fallen upon Tanjirou Kamado's shoulders. Though living impoverished on a remote mountain, the Kamado family are able to enjoy a relatively peaceful and happy life. One day, Tanjirou decides to go down to the local village to make a little money selling charcoal. On his way back, night falls, forcing Tanjirou to take shelter in the house of a strange man, who warns him of the existence of flesh-eating demons that lurk in the woods at night.

When he finally arrives back home the next day, he is met with a horrifying sight—his whole family has been slaughtered. Worse still, the sole survivor is his sister Nezuko, who has been turned into a bloodthirsty demon. Consumed by rage and hatred, Tanjirou swears to avenge his family and stay by his only remaining sibling. Alongside the mysterious group calling themselves the Demon Slayer Corps, Tanjirou will do whatever it takes to slay the demons and protect the remnants of his beloved sister's humanity.

The most overhyped show. While its good enough for a watch its just nothing special that justifies its success imo. It really is just your average shounen. It does nothing special. And does nothing better than the others. I can really only think of two things why it blew up. Animation and Nezuko and then the Sheep herd just followed along with the buzz and influencers and stuff took over and the snowball was moving.

Over its season openings keep a high quality. So does animation. Story really goes nowhere. Characters are flat and uninteresting. Way to much screaming and fooling around.

The numbers are ... a dissapointing bunch compared to other shounens akatsuki, yonko or similar groups. So far non seems very poserful, rather all seems idiotic and make up for poor fights.

I mean its still good enough overall. Ill complete it when it continues but its nowhere near the other classic shounens.

Mixed Feelings

Demon Slayer is a show that excells in certain moments, but really does not pull its weight in the middle of great moments.

Art - 9/10 Obviously Demon Slayer is known for its amazing animation and it is usually really good, but i feel like being picky, and the CGI they use in some parts is terrible, it is a small part but it really just makes me laugh whenever i see it.

Characters - 6/10 Most characters are fine, some characters are great and other characters are annoying, very mixed bag of a cast for this season.

Story - 6/10 Basic Demon Fantasy anime plot, nothing major ... happens to progress the story and the progress is very slow, heard it picks up in later seasons, this season also starts insanely slow.

OST/Sound Design - 8/10 OST's Kinda slap, but voice acting has a whole lot of the black clover effect where the characters just scream to be "Funny"

Enjoyment - 6/10 I enjoyed the season tons at certain points and other points it felt like a chore to watch.

Overall - 6/10 its pretty meh, I dont think it deserves its popularity but its an alright show, mugen train is looking good tho.

Demon Slayer is an agonizing snore-fest, and I'm genuinely surprised it received such high praise.

The story itself is boilerplate. The main character witnesses his family murdered by a demon, and becomes a demon slayer to enact revenge; additionally, his sister is the only survivor and turns into a demon herself, and he vows to return her humanity. It's an interesting premise that shounen fans would feel comfortable pursuing.

But obnoxious, one-dimensional characters overwhelm any engaging plot — in particular, one named Zenitsu. You meet this character around the sixth episode and, without exaggeration, he becomes the most insufferable people in any show that I've ... watched. The central gimmick is that he's a coward, and he uses all of his screen-time to remind you of this.

When Zenitsu isn't sobbing uncontrollably about his fear of demons, he's harassing women to marry him. The dichotomy between that and his unrelenting cowardice creates one of the most paper-thin characters I've seen. It's so overpowering that a couple episodes with him becomes the ultimate litmus test in whether you want to continue the show.

But the cardboard characters don't end there. The protagonist, Tanjiro, is about as cookie-cutter as they come. He's the moral compass of the show; compassionate, understanding, et cetera; but you're reminded of this every single episode. Like the writers were afraid you would forget that Tanjiro is the good guy.

This reminder comes from exposition-dumping. It could be minutes-long dialogue about protecting his sister no matter the cost, or monologues where he just describes the events you just watched. Tanjiro becomes more an encyclopedia rather than a meaningful character with depth and development.

Now, credit where it's due. Demon Slayer is a visually-stunning anime with a great budget. The combat sequences are really engaging and brutal, which makes for some good episodes. But ultimately, I feel it's spoiled by everything else. Even by shounen standards, I don't feel Demon Slayer brings anything to table that another shounen couldn't.

If you're interested, watch about ten episodes. You'll get a decent understanding of the formula, as well as the mainstay characters. If you're still enjoying from that point, keep going! There's more of that ahead. If you aren't, I'm afraid it doesn't get much better and I'd recommend checking out other shows.
