Ah about time Tanjirou begin to train as a demon slayer. Sakonji Urokodaki is his mentor/trainor so the test won't be easy to pass. I see one of the most important elements of this training is learning how to use that sword.

I thought their training was kinda funny honestly until the part with the big rock. Still a fairly important episode. Glad to see Sabito vs Tanjirou. As usual, gorgeous animation quality and soundtrack.

Heard more great OSTs this ep. Definitely picking up the OST once the BD Vol comes out.

I'm liking what they did with the visual presentation for the Breath explanation and defintely the training with Sabito.

Oh wow, I was glued to the screen, and when the ending song played I was like “WAIT WHAT NOOOO”.
Beautiful episode, the quality of this episode was something noteworthy.
Got goosebumps at the end when Tanjorou sliced the boulder

Finally, we are getting to the Final Selection, can’t wait for it

Fantastic episode again.

The training was great, presentation was fantastic.
Gotta admit that the it got super interesting when Sabito showed up.

The fight sequences were super sharp and extremely well animated, loving the sword movements. Really glad to see Ufotable putting that production value into this.

The OST is fantastic, Yuki Kajiura at it again. xD

The final scene seemed to point at Sabito and Monoma being apparitions of sort but I don't seem to believe that.
Excited for this final selection.

The attention to detail was so well done. nothing was left out from the manga, ufotable even added new scenes like how he slashes those knives coming at him, and If you watched after the ed, you can appreciate how cute and how you want to protect Nezuko from all dangers, truly a magnificent work

A great episode.

Tanjirou's is continuing with his training and it is getting harder.

I was happy that he was able to slice that boulder.

Hmm a corps of elite fighters thats unrecognised by the government huh interesting. Still the intro into both the corps and the demons was most insightful. Though the training was pretty harsh it was pretty satisfying seeing Tanjiro show just how much he had learned. Time sure passes quick in this world though lol. Damm Fox mask's speed was impressive. Still that fight while blindingly fast also provided Tanjiro with first hand knowledge on how lacking he was in his training. Even though he lost it looked like Sabito was relieved that Tanjiro had finally matured both in skill and in his thinking. An excellent ep that while showing how Tanjiro's skills gradually improved as the training went on also did well to introduce a pair of interesting characters in the form of Sabito and Makomo.

The had some really heavy-handed exposition, they even felt the need to point out that humans can't regrow limbs and "I literally train swordsmen". The visuals for this part were really bland as well.

The internal dialogue is starting to get on my nerves, especially when Tanjirou explains exactly what's happening on screen with minimal extra info. The attempts at humour fell flat.

The fight had some pretty cheap looking parts before it went into full swing. The training in between the two fights was boring as well.

Overall, the worst episode so far.

I can’t relate to what you’re saying, but let me just say that dropping this anime now is not the smartest thing to do, moreover we are talking about a 2-cour series, you should give it more episodes imo. But well, do whatever you want.

I was honestly surprised we didn't rush through the masked children/fox children/whatever part of the manga quicker, and i'm happy we got all of it. And the shot of the boulder being slashed in half worked better with the anime version, style-wise. Can't wait to see how they handle the next part of the manga.

The training before the tournament arc was a bit funny until Urokodaki told him he has to break that rock so he can get to the selection (tooooouuuuuuuurnameeeeeeen aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarc!!!!!). I got vibes when Sabito and Makomo appeared, and somehow liked it more than the manga.

The animation quality was top notch once again

They even added scenes that weren't in the manga, next episode final selection.

Too much long dialogue interspersed with the training. A step down from the last 2 episodes, but then again keeping up that quality and tempo was perhaps too much to ask. Look forward to the selection now.

Not sure what to say. I loved the first two episodes, but this one made me realize that it's just another WSJ (Weekly Shounen Jump) manga adaptation. I hope that we'll see something exciting, but the fact that it's basically a kid's show doesn't help with building up the hype at all.

This whole episode is a time for Go Shiina's soundtracks. Yuki Kajiura elements are in Tanjirou's first battle with Sabito and Makomo's first moment. Fast pace episode with a little boring story. Maybe next episode will be an action episode.

PS: I'm only an anime viewer, didn't read the manga.

this has a lot of humor even in aserios moment, blonde kid once will be introduced will make probably a lot to turn their nose [if now many comments regarding some slight humor]

Cool character arrives, cool character leaves, cool character arrives six months later, cool character leaves really terrible writing decision to trade the cool dude Sabito for the lame Makomo. Yawn.

Really weird writing all around since it was just like 2 or so years of time skip and tons more background and journaling.

Least interesting episode thus far.

I really think we should have just done all of this at an academy with other kids training to be demon slayers. Its just hard to care or find interest in a lone guy training with an old man off the beaten path for some goal that was unspecified.

Though maybe thats the main problem with the show, Tanjirou just isnt interesting enough to even care or want to support at this point in time.

I was impressed when they talked about the weaknesses of a katana, and the need for edge alignment. But then they followed it with utter crap. At least use magic as an explanation for those crap!

A character, voiced by Kaji Yuuki, used speed to flash around and attack the protagonist. I was half expecting the fight to end with One Punch. Lol.

When did Nezuko get put to sleep? I have no memory of it.

The protagonist seems more and more like a siscon every time he appears. His past is so easy to forget that I don't feel bad for him at all.

So.. The Training episode. Yes, all these time skips almost drove me mad. But I think, this is how the author emphasized what it took to become a demon slayer. Because we absolutely do not want yet another Kirito where "He traines when no one notices" kind of thing, right?

Also the part when Urokodaki explains how to swing your katana is golden to me. Now that you think about it, if your katana's direction and your swing direction isn't the same, it would not only lead to a weak swing but can also break your katana. I've been enlightened... O_O

Then. The Boulder, Sabito, and Makomo. Makomo said:
"We are always watching you"
"There are also other kids besides us"
And It looks like they have a relationship with Urokodaki, maybe their caretaker because all of them are orphans. I assume both Sabito and Makomo and other kids are long dead. Obviously killed by the demons and Urokodaki couldn't protect them. And that Boulder is kinda like their gravestone. Tanjiro trained with their spirit and being able to cut that boulder means that he is taking their will. I haven't read the manga (and I might not in the future) so I could be wrong. But still, cool characters like Sabito is too wasted to just hang around a little bit and gone in the next second.

When people ignore these kind of details, they will think that this is a weak episode. Now, do you still think the same?

I loved this episode.
Wow! How fast two years went by, and Nezuko is still asleep 😅.
1 year of training with Urukudaki
1 year to cut the rock.
Makomo is a very pretty girl, but I wonder if behind such a cuteness a great force will hide.
Sabito has a great attitude, besides being very strong.
Although it lasted only a few seconds, it was an epic and emotional ending of the episode. The hard and arduous training paid off. Very well done Tanjiro 😀👏.

This anime has a great soundtrack and great animation. Without a doubt, it is one of the best animes of the season (and only goes for the third episode). The story and the plot, so far, have captivated me more than enough.
Postscript: I want to try the technique of "total concentration breathing" xD.

I thought it was Noriaki Sugiyama (the voice behind Sasuke Uchiha)... Well with Noriaki working on Mob Psycho 100 s2 I had his voice in mind (and that laugh from Saburo sounded so much like evil Sasuke)... Kaji Yuuki definetly left an impression on me! (and I've heard in other works tho...)
Moreover Urokodaki is played by Jiraya's seiyuu! ^^

I must say that this episode surprised me a lot, the intense and hard training that Tanjirou had to go through was difficult to take, but Tanjirou always had Nezuko in mind, I was also surprised by the long sleep Nezuko spent, two years without waking up ... Wow, I hope she comes back in the next episode.
Urokodaki was a tough instructor, but with a lot to teach, that year of training gave some result in Tanjirou, but Urokodaki's test was unexpected and practically impossible, cutting a huge rock in two.
Tanjirou is desperate to not be able to cut the rock despite his efforts and it is then that a young man with a fox mask appears and challenges him to a fight that Tanjirou ends up losing, but then a small girl appears and introduces herself as Makomo and also says the name of the boy who defeated Tajirou, Sabito.
Makomo reviews all the teachings of Urokodaki and Tanjirou can confront Sabito to put into practice what he has learned.
At the end another year of intense training passes and Tanjirou confronts Sabito again and this time the young man uses a katana to fight against Tanjirou. The duel of Tanjirou and Sabito was great, the tension of who would be the first to give the first cut was very well achieved and I was very happy after seeing that Tanjirou could cut the huge rock, but it was a shame that Makomo and Sabito leave suddenly, which makes it clear that both are no longer in this world. Now Tanjirou is ready to appear in the final selection.

This episode was very good, I really liked it, although summarize 2 years of training is to hurry things, I did not feel it personally, because we saw that Tanjirou was improving, what bothered me a bit were the many internal dialogues, but then after seeing the episode a second time I understood that it also reflects the growth of Tanjirou during his training and we also see that there is conflict over the state of Nezuko.
The soundtrack again left me impressed, I think it managed to get us into the scene, where we felt the emotion in the training and in both fights between Tanjirou and Sabito.
The animation was another very good point in this episode, I think it gave us good moments of excellent quality and without doubt the final duel was my favorite, although the first encounter between Sabito and Tanjirou was also well done and that blow to the chin that Sabito gave to Tanjirou, i feel the pain just to remember that scene.
Now we just have to wait for the next episode, I think it will be very good and promises action because of what I have read in other comments.

On a side note, I love when Nezuko comments with her brother about the previews of the next episode, she is too adorable when she agrees.
