I think buying anime, movies or whatever in this day and age is just a waste of money and not worth it at all unless you're rich and want to waste money..

Yea...Why not illegally stream or download anime for free instead of supporting the industry, right? Smh...

Imagine if we ALL don't pay for anime in any way...Who do you think is going to pay for those people who create anime for us? Same case for movies, video games or whatever...

I don't feel like I own something if if I can't hold it and put it on a shelf but also to echo what everyone else has said to support the industry that I love. Not rich by the way

Because if people really love something then they usually want to have a physical copy, not just a file on a computer. I personally dont buy anime but I own quite a big collection of my fav bands' CDs and also some manga.

Wait so we waste money when we support the industry while having a guaranteed high quality Watch, extras, sub and dub and physical disc and box?

The only money that is wasted is the money that isn't and won't get spend.

£25 is only for older shows, newer releases are like £50 or £60.

Maybe, never bothered to look the newer ones up but even then the price probably goes down after a while.

By watching illegal stream anime, we are indirectly destroying anime industry. Bluray anime , figures, and other goods are the main income of anime studio or company.A lot of anime cannot release other season because of money issues ( a 30 minute episode of a TV anime cost about $145,214 ).

It was already possible before the Internet with this incredible technology called television. And despite that, the VHS market blossomed. So, the question had already multiple occasions to be answered for 30years.

@Darek Since you talk in pounds, I guess he's refering to AllTheAnime. And they don't lower their prices. The french release of Kill la Kill is still at 45€ each half (making it more expensive than their new first edition of Zeta Gundam, same price for half the double-length series) when other companies sell full series between 30 and 40€.
Not even comparing with the less recent and "classic" series at 10-20€.

Sure, if you want the industry to collapse, stealing would definitely be the way to go. You should only do that if it's absolutely necessary (not available to buy or stream).

Also, you have no control over whether something gets taken off streaming. If it does and you can't buy copies anymore, sucks for you (see Nana).

Not to mention potential hard drive crashes wiping all of your digital content and torrents getting taken down.
TEN COMMANDMENTS:
1) If Evangelion and Psycho-Pass are his only 10s, he probably also worships Tool and smells like cheesy puffs 2) Freudian psychosis =/= good writing 3) Moe blob art style is only ok in pure slice-of-life comedy 4) It's ok to enjoy shounen. Having fun is allowed 5) It is not ok to enjoy isekai (jk, it is, I just fucking hate it) 6) Creator breakdown =/= good writing 7) A story does not have to be wrapped up with a bow. Life is messy, why would a good story need to be tidy? 8) InuYasha is proto-Twilight 9) Ecchi CAN be good, but is almost always an abomination 10) If God is real, They allowed Super Kid to happen, so fuck Them

First of all you're an idiot. Second, it takes hundreds of million Yen to produce anime. The artists and animators have to work 24 hours a day for meagre pay, less than minimum wage. So, shut the hell up and support the industry any way you can.

Like anything it's not really a waste if you enjoy it and have the money to pay, some people like to have physical goods instead of everything being digital, granted I don't buy much but I've imported some anime BDs and merch such as figures, when it comes to watching anime though I pretty much download it all, never used CR and don't intend to, think that's mostly for seasonal stuff anyway.

LMAO at people screming "industry will die". Do you live in the real world or a fucking hypothetical non-sensical situations?
I wouldn't pay shit anyway, so piracy doesn't heart anyone, it's actually making anime more popular.

Retail releases are just overpriced box clutter.

Some people like to support the things they like so they can keep getting more of it.
Also, for me, having a physical copy of something feels a lot better than having a digital one. It's nice to have something to display sometimes.

-Zero chance of getting jailed or fined for buying anime legally VS chances are not zero if you pirate.
-Never got a virus/trojan/malware/spyware from a legally bought disc
-Basic Economics: Your support of the products you buy provides companies with capital to license more anime you like and in turn the money earned from licensing those anime helps Japanese companies make more anime you may like. Conversely, if nobody supports them they can not license or make anything and go out business and you have nothing to watch.
-Not everyone has a broadband connection capable of streaming or downloading in a reasonable amount of time.
-The internet goes down a lot, you can watch a disc without the internet.
-DVD/BDs are portable for road trips, watching streams on the road would kill your data.
-Internet content is not permanent, a legal stream sometimes gets taken down if the company lets the license expire or if the copyright holder sends a C&D order to your illegal streaming website. A disc is yours forever.
-A whole wall of shelves full of anime looks freaking amazing.
-Having something physical you can touch and hold is way better than some vapid ethereal file on a computer or a stream.

Anyhow, I'm a collector since 1998. I have both an anime collection of 700 various series, movies, and OVAs as well as a manga collection of over 500 volumes and I have all that despite being in the poor bracket for income.

Well, some people don't like pirating it. You may do it all the time, but some people have standards. You also get stuff with the anime, like extra scenes and the animation process or something like that
