Hey, no problem. My favorite classic Sci-Fi Anime are Macross (not Robotech, no respect for that butchering), Uchuu Senkan Yamato, Zeta Gundam, Area 88, and Captain Tylor. As to my top 5 contemporary/experimental Sci-Fi: Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Ergo Proxy, Noein, Evangelion; honorary The Sky Crawlers, and Flag. There's quite a lot of other Sci-Fi Anime that I haven't seen or completed yet, that could easily replace one or more of the ones listed above.

You could try the 6th movie out. Its setting is pretty unique and it has some emotional parts, but it lacks in the mystery and suspense aspects. It's less on crime-solving and more on the importance of friendship. Of course, duels with the Black Organization are missing in this movie if that's what you're looking for.

Awesome! The TV series is definitely more slice of life than the OVA series. It also covers some of the same scenes that you saw in the OVA but I think it was really good.

Cool, you'd definitely like Patlabor. When I'm finished watching that I'm debating picking up LoGH or the new Space Battleship Yamato 2202. I'd need to muster up some courage to start LoGH though lol
