Ao no Exorcist

Humans and demons are two sides of the same coin, as are Assiah and Gehenna, their respective worlds. The only way to travel between the realms is by the means of possession, like in ghost stories. However, Satan, the ruler of Gehenna, cannot find a suitable host to possess and therefore, remains imprisoned in his world. In a desperate attempt to conquer Assiah, he sends his son instead, intending for him to eventually grow into a vessel capable of possession by the demon king.

Ao no Exorcist follows Rin Okumura who appears to be an ordinary, somewhat troublesome teenager—that is until one day he is ambushed by demons. His world turns upside down when he discovers that he is in fact the very son of Satan and that his demon father wishes for him to return so they can conquer Assiah together. Not wanting to join the king of Gehenna, Rin decides to begin training to become an exorcist so that he can fight to defend Assiah alongside his brother Yukio.

I know if I rewatch it I’ll probably lower my rating probably to a 7/10 but I rated so high because I think it was ahead of its time , the story telling is not so good either but I feel that as a kid this was one of the Demon/Spirits shounen Anime. Good Side Characters and it was funny to me . But yes just have in mind my high rating is based on nostalgia but it’s also a solid Anime. I think a lot of yall would enjoy it and maybe is not a Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer but it from 2011 ... it really solid .

Mixed Feelings

Blue Exorcist walks a fine line between heartfelt storytelling and chaotic pacing. At times, it feels unsure of what it wants to be. Is it part emotional journey, or is it part supernatural action? The pacing shifts unpredictably. Some arcs linger too long on quieter beats, while others rush through key confrontations. Season one in particular struggles with tone, sometimes jumping from heartfelt drama to light comedy or intense battles without enough breathing room. Even so, there’s something compelling in how it deals with belonging, identity, and the weight of being seen as something you’re not. Rin Okumura’s journey isn’t framed as a path to ... greatness. It’s raw and restless that shaped by rejection, loyalty, and the fear of hurting those who matter. These themes land more as emotional imprints than as sharp, perfectly constructed narratives. The worldbuilding shows promise but often stays vague. The Exorcist Order’s structure, the rules of demon-human interaction, and the inner workings of True Cross Academy are touched on but not explored deeply enough to ground the story. Visually, the anime offers striking demon designs, rich color contrasts, and dynamic fight choreography, though the quality can dip in less important scenes. The music, from high-energy battle tracks to atmospheric tension pieces, helps sell the mood. The voice acting brings a lot of personality, especially in Rin’s blend of hotheadedness and vulnerability. The moral undertones about accepting yourself, fighting prejudice, and finding family beyond blood are meaningful, even if the delivery isn’t always consistent. Enjoyment-wise, it works best when taken as a character-driven ride. Rewatch value depends on your attachment to the cast, certain emotional moments and set-piece battles hold up, but the uneven pacing may be more noticeable on a second watch. It may not always know exactly what it wants to be, but Blue Exorcist still captures that restless, messy feeling of fighting for your place in a world that’s already decided who you are.

Blue exorcist was anime that has a great premise that I really like, 2 sons with the mother of a human and a father of Satan himself. With high expectations of this being as great as the manga but I guess the studio had other plans and decided to go their own route an try making it an anime ending. The characters were really bland and I didn't really came to like any of them but the only on i think had to most personality was rin and i think he is annoying. The animation style was really good for its time but ... the song choices wasn't the best. I enjoyed it till its second course, and in all honestly I don't remember any part of this show that i enjoyed to make this redeemable besides the comedy being involved here and there which i didnt enjoy too much but it was still ok, so what I rate this show is what I honestly believe it deserves.
