Shingeki no Kyojin

Centuries ago, mankind was slaughtered to near extinction by monstrous humanoid creatures called Titans, forcing humans to hide in fear behind enormous concentric walls. What makes these giants truly terrifying is that their taste for human flesh is not born out of hunger but what appears to be out of pleasure. To ensure their survival, the remnants of humanity began living within defensive barriers, resulting in one hundred years without a single titan encounter. However, that fragile calm is soon shattered when a colossal Titan manages to breach the supposedly impregnable outer wall, reigniting the fight for survival against the man-eating abominations.

After witnessing a horrific personal loss at the hands of the invading creatures, Eren Yeager dedicates his life to their eradication by enlisting into the Survey Corps, an elite military unit that combats the merciless humanoids outside the protection of the walls. Eren, his adopted sister Mikasa Ackerman, and his childhood friend Armin Arlert join the brutal war against the Titans and race to discover a way of defeating them before the last walls are breached.

One of the glorious few

Shows like this one are the reason I have to give other good shows less than perfect scores. The flaws are few and far between, and honestly not worth mentioning.

In essence, it follows the well established theme of grand epic stories like Fullmetal Alchemist, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Code Geass, and Space Battleship Yamato. Taking a cool and simple premise and expanding it as wide as they possibly can. By the end, we're exploring concepts like eternity, gods, immortality, war, morality, and the great beyond. After watching, you're not left thinking "what a great show," but rather, you're left to contemplate your ... own humanity and consider the minutiae of your very existence. THAT is not easy to accomplish. It's steeped in fantasy and impossibility, and yet the characters are so real and complex that you don't even bother comparing yourself to them. Rather, like studying history, you thank God that you'll (probably) never have to endure anything like what they went through. It doesn't feel like a show. It feels like a reality that could've actually happened.

Attack on Titan is the kind of story that changes you as a person. But, admirably, it doesn't lead you in any particular direction. Like history, it shows you what happened and it's up to you to decide what to do with that information. And, also like history, you could fill an entire series of volumes with studies, opinions, considerations, and implications regarding every complex facet of this show. We'd be here for days. Long story short, thou shalt watch.

Mixed Feelings

welp i have no idea how to feel. but i enjoyed some of it. however some of my friends kept telling me to watch this and saying everything about it was peak and anytime a character did anything it was peak, or anything there was like set up and pay off or kinda good animation it was peak, and it PISSED ME OFF. So, already my enjoyment was ruined because I felt like it was pretty overrated, and it is hailed as the best anime ever (maybe people are talking about later seasons but still it is one of the highest rated popular anime and ... there is no denying that). I just thought a lot of the characters were empty and some reveals fell flat and I couldn't connect with the story because I felt like most of the time it wanted action over character, which is a problem a lot of anime I watch have. Anyway, those episodes that DO focus on characters and how people are feeling are usually really good and it helps me start to connect to the story. I'm not against action scenes and obviously I expect them in a show called ATTACK on titan but I was expecting more from the 'greatest anime ever.' anyway despite all my complaining i do really love the titans design, the world that is set up, the ad break art work, and the progression of EREN, who is a pretty strong character and someone who works as a lead, but also not outshinging the supporting cast, whom are pretty good when they get their spot in the limelight. Overall, I did like the characters and design of the show but I just wished more happened in 25 episodes! I will keep watching until the end though, I will let the show cook and I’m all for great shows having bad/mid starts (not that this is a mid start).

I always looked at AOT as a joke because despite all this fanfare, It has always been a below average shonen which tricked some spectactors into thinking It is a mature story. Also, the animation played a huge role. Every anime with great animation is amazing for some anime watchers

It's the edgelord's favorite anime. Kids watched AOT thinking They are watching something for adults because there is blood and gore. Having dark themes doesn't make you mature. It's how an anime handles it. And the way AOT handles it is so childish. AOT is shock porn. Everything is written to shock. It relies on plot ... twists and plot twists just to create viral moments.

It's the same technique Re Zero and many authors use with its abuse of cliffhangers. It's a great technique to create dopamine and trick the audience into thinking the story is amazing. The author has always been a fraud who got exposed eventually. I laughed out loud at AOT's stupid plot twists. It showed clearly the author had no idea what he was writing.

Now, AOT's reputation crashed and everyone sees it for the trash it is. Don't get it twisted, AOT has always been trash. It was Just too popular and made too much money to criticize it. So, there was a lot of shilling. Even directors and editors are shitting on it nowadays. Very funny. Lesson to be learned from this disaster, write a story to express something not to shock the viewers.
