There is no need to review Overlord. All has already been said about it. Overlord is now recognised as a classic in the animation and light novel worlds. The number of animes Overlord not only inspired in every genre but became popular due to the inspiration is enormous. It has to be in the hundred thousand. This season alone, there are at least two animes inspired by it.
What is great about Overlord is that It gets better every season which is rare. It's not the only show like this but usually the majority of shows gets worse over time.
Overlord does not become stale because of
...
two reasons. First, the characters. The characters make a show. You can have the most beautiful animation in the world but with trash characters, the show is still trash. Overlord has a lot of characters which means the variety of interactions keep it from getting boring. Also, the characters are independent from the main character. A thing I hate about a show is how everything revolves around the main character. Thankfully , Overlord doesn't have this problem. Each character in Overlord continues to exist without Ainz. There are a lot of characters doing things without Ainz 's knowledge. There was a world and people before Ainz came. Even his guardians which are created to be slaves show signs of disloyalty from time to time and goes against his orders. Each season, new characters appear and they are perfectly implemented in the story. Another thing is the recuring characters grow and get character development. Ainz from season 4 is completely different from season 1.
Second, The unpredictability due to the worldbuilding. Overlord is so deep that the author introduces new things constantly. PDL got introduced two seasons ago and it's right now we are getting to the meat of his character. Antilene got introduced in season 2 but it's in season 5 that she will appear again. A powersuit got introduced this season which seems out of nowhere but got foreshadowed seasons ago. Maruyama does this a lot. He introduces things in chapter 1 that he is going to reuse in chapter 1000. Overlord's world is so big that the ending will not be a true ending. It's impossible for Maruyama to finish all the plot points unless he continues to write for another decade. The ending will be an open ending because he can not end Overlord. It's too complex with too many characters and too many plot points.
Overall, Overlord is getting better and better and people have no idea where it's going.

This is a show which is rare nowadays with trash like Dandadan and Chainsaw man getting popular. This is a show with substance and with nuance. Even when It came out, I am sure it was special. It is one kind of show. I like nuances and Joe is a great character with a lot of it. You hate him and you love him at the same time. He makes mistakes, he struggles like a normal human. He is not a bullshit self insert for the audience to relate to. The story is emotional but without being overdramatic. It is also a story which takes
...
its time. Its not for the tiktok viewers. This show left a mark on me with all these qualities. I understand why It is a classic. It deserves it. Its a inspirational story. Man, I wish more stories were written to inspire rather than to lower your intelligence. Masterpiece

When blue lock came out, I thought It was average and I forgot about it. Its not like I did not know where the hype came from. I knew exactly the same reason Blue lock was hyped is the same reason Chainsaw man was hyped. It appealed to edgelords and it had the rule of cool with the animation. I knew the hype like Chainsaw man was going to fade because shock value instead of story can only work for so long. Now we are at Season 2 and blue lock lost all its hype like I predicted because the animation is subpar. Its a
...
problem when animation is the only reason people watch your show for. People watch blue lock for the 'hype moments' , the cringe edgelord moments as I like to call them. And with subpar animation, It is difficult to translate them. Now the story has to stand on its own two feet. Unfortunately for blue lock, story has never been its strong point. The story is cringy trash which shows the author has no understanding of football. Its is a Battle Royale anime disguised as a football anime. The reason it is popular or it was popular is the spectacle. In the end, It is a sad but expected end for blue lock but deserved. This kind of anime does not have longevity.

If generic was a anime, blue box fits perfectly. This is another hyped anime like Dandadan because of the animation. What makes me not despise it as much is its level of popularity is equal to its quality. In other words, the hype did not catch on. I have nothing against generic anime if they are Well executed. Everything is generic nowadays. Blue box is a feast for the eyes if you are only interested in colors. Aesthethic is its only quality. Blue box is averagely executed. Would I recommend it? No. Is it offensive ? No. Watch it if you want to waste time.

Dandadan is a product. It is fast food entertainment. And there is nothing wrong with that. What infuriates me is when people try to sell it for bigger than it is. There is nothing deep about dandandan. The storyline is predictable. The characters are shallow. It is like a Marvel movie. Nothing wrong with that, I like some Marvel movies but when I watch them I know they are garbage.
Dandadan is a guilty pleasure show carried by animation. It will only impress teenagers. Adults can enjoy it too but as a popcorn time waster. What makes me disappointed is the lack of guts of
...
the author. You can tell he wrote this story to be popular instead of writing a compelling narrative. I can't blame him, he needs to survive and compelling stories is not what the mainstream wants.
This is why garbage like edgelord Joker and mediocre Avengers are exploding the box office. The author is smart and follows the law of the market.
That is why I despise dandadan. It is giving people what they want, it is not challenging them in anyway. I hate when a story gives me what I want. This is why my favorite stories are stories who made me feel negative emotions, where the authors took risks. Dandadan took no risks and deserves no hatred or praise, just indifference.
It will end up like Jujustsu kaisen in the few years, another product of hype forgotten now because that is all Dandadan is, an anime from the assembly line.
Next Season, there is another anime from the same mold Sakamoto days ready to replace it because there is nothing intriguing about these shows. They are consumed like Macdonald. Again, I eat Macdonald from time to time but you won't see me tout it as great food. Same with Dandadan. You can enjoy it but stop the hyperbole with this mediocre show.

Overlord is the Game of Thrones of anime. There are only few shows at its level or beyond it. Every action makes sense and affects the plot. The level of foreshadowing is unmatched. A plot point introduced in the first Season becomes relevant in the fourth Season. Most importantly, there is conflict and consequences for everyone. Each action Ainz takes has a consequence on him and the World. For example, the fight against the Undead has an impact on Ainz, causes the appearance of a hidden character and the departure of another character. Also, Ainz has real conflict. His conflict is not fighting someone stronger
...
than him which is a boring conflict for a protagonist. He has the best conflict, inner conflict. Ainz has to find ways to conquer this World while maintaining stability between the different kingdoms under him. This is Real conflict which does not depend on training or getting stronger through a powerup like a lame shonen protagonist. This is also a conflict which will never get resolved because the different races under him have different characteristics and preoccupations. Also, Ainz has another conflict. He is constantly at War with himself if he should be cruel or merciful.Sometimes, he does not know what methods to use.The carrot and the stick. Ainz, having two internal conflicts make him one of the best protagonist of all Times not only in anime but in cinematography and the best isekai protagonist of all times.
What is great about Overlord is like I said actions have consequences. So, It is unpredictable. You know Nazarick is going to win but you dont know how they are going to win and what events will unfold during their conquest, you dont know what individuals they will encounter. There is plot twist on top of another plot twist.
Every character in Overlord is unique and tied to a theme and each has a character arc.
This Season, Ainz,Enri, Clementine, nphirea, Brain, Albedo and Shalltear grew as characters and the best thing about Overlord is it is not the end of their character arcs. They will keep growing in future Seasons
All these reasons make Overlord a masterpiece
Also, Overlord is not for shonen lovers. If you are a fan of bullshit like Chainsaw man, Jujustsu kaisen, Dandadan, don't watch it. It is a bit pretentious but it is true. I am helping you to not waste time. If you are a fan of these garbage shows, overlord will be boring to you. So, save your time and continue to watch the same slop.

Overlord the sacred kingdom is the adaptation of volume 13 and 14 , a fan favorite. I was worried about this adaptation because of the words of the director that the action was the focus. I am glad I was wrong. Overlord appeal is and will always be World building and character developement with philosophical themes. The way a moral dilemna is introduced by the author via a character is fascinating. Here the central theme is justice and it is viewed through the two main characters Neia and Custodios. There are other topics explored such as kindness via Calca which is also interesting. Madhouse is
...
aware of the masterpiece of writing called Overlord and thankfully they concentrated their effort on animating the dialogue rather than pointless fight scènes. In the Books, there is only a fight in the arc. Sometimes, there is zero action in the volumes. For example, Season 5 will have one fight maximum in the entire season. So, people who watch overlord for action better drop it now because the next Seasons will be more complex and political than Season 4. If it was up to me, I would have cut all the fight scenes and dedicate the time to further develop Calca' s ideology but I understand Madhouse wanted to strike a balance. Still, I am happy that Madhouse knows what is really important in Overlord. Like I Saïd, the adaptation is not perfect and with the limited runtime the dialogue should have been the only things adapted however It is reassuring that the studio knows what to prioritirize: the conversations.
Great job.
