Production company GAGA opened an official website for an anime adaptation of Inio Asano's Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction manga on Wednesday, revealing a special promo. Asano also drew an illustration to commemorate the announcement (pictured).

Production +h., the animation studio behind Mitsuo Iso's Chikyuugai Shounen Shoujo (The Orbital Children) anime, is producing the anime project.

Asano launched the sci-fi slice of life manga in April 2014 in Big Comic Spirits after ending Oyasumi Punpun the year before. The 13th issue of the magazine published the 100th and final chapter on February 28. Shogakukan shipped the 11th volume on July 30 last year, with the 12th volume scheduled to release on March 30. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in 2017 and released the tenth volume last September.

Dead Dead Demon's Dededededestruction placed among the top 20 manga in the male readers category in the Kono Manga ga Sugoi! 2016 rankings, won the 66th Shogakukan Manga Awards in the General category, and the Excellence Award at the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival in the Manga division.

Synopsis
When you look up at the sky, what do you see? A blue sky? Freedom? A hopeful future? The people of Tokyo see none of these. Instead, an ominous alien mothership looms overhead, engulfing the city skyscape.

Three years ago, they came. The arrival of the "Invaders" sparked the greatest war humanity had ever faced—one that threatened to end the world. The Japanese government scrambled to fight the Invaders. Weapons were mass-produced, sparking controversy and pacifist movements.

That day, everything changed. And yet, nothing has changed. Kadode Koyama and Ouran Nakagawa live their final days like they always have: going to school, playing with friends, and doing what any carefree high school girl would do.

As they grow up they come to learn what it truly means to be an adult, in a world where adults seem to be demons who only deceive and destroy. They come to learn the real threat to humanity is not the Invaders, but humanity itself. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Let's gooooooooooo. Binged this only about two weeks ago (because it was nearing completion). Some of the best art I had seen in manga so far & the setting was super interesting. I hope it gets a full adaptation (24 episodes might suffice). Might bring some more detail into the confusion of the latter chapters.
Don't mind me,
just passing by...

I haven't read all of his work yet, including this one, but I would have expected a non-comedy manga of his to get adapted first.
Cool that he's finally getting an anime though.

So now even Asano is getting the green light to adapt? Holy Spaghetti, are there any other genres or themes that we can't see in anime?

Now this is what I'm talking about.

Inio Asano is such a great writer, and Dead Dead Demon is so good. Can't wait for the anime to come enough.

Hopefully it gets a good adaptation.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

It's nice to see we got 3 adaptations of asano's works now, hoping for something like reiraku to be adapted to a film in the near future

If the studio adapt inio asano art really well and achieve the anticipation. Then we will be needing an oyasumi punpun anime. But definitely don't rush the production. I would rather wait a decade for the show than see a flop

this might be 2 cour to have a complete anime adaptation since i heard the manga is ending soon at 12 volumes

if this is gonna be done by the same staff as The Orbital Children then high chance the quality will be great

Finally! Though to be honest, this is probably the only anime adaptation that will happen for this author, unless his future works change vibe completely—which I hope does not happen.

I remember watching a video a few years ago of him discussing that he wanted to draw a manga about cute girls doing cute things to make fun of that trope, and this is his version of that.

I'm super curious to see the staff that will be working on this, specifically who will be composing the music and adapting the anime character designs. Also excited to find out who the voice actors will be~

Congrats Asano-sensei!! I hope one day he is a guest for Anime Expo, and we can interview him!

I was planning to read the manga, and now I'm confused - do I wait for the anime or go ahead and read the manga as planned? Either way, I'm happy Asano got one of his works adapted.

Well, this is actually so surprising. Never in my lifetime would I have thought to see DeDeDeDe’s anime adaptation. For a full adaptation it might need 3 cours at least to not feel rushed, which I doubt it will happen, so let’s hope for the best.

The truth about Asano I only read punpun I was interested in this work and solanin now that dead dead will have anime I will start solanin. If I'm not mistaken, it's Asano's first work with anime proper.

I'd argue this is his second best work only behind pun pun which is unadaptable to an anime format

Oh man, I'm in the middle of reading Dead Dead Demon's right now! :D Can't wait to see how it'll turn out as an anime, especially from a new studio with a unique style! I think a lot of the people who worked on Dennou Coil are part of h+, and I can imagine that turning out really well.

Asano getting an anime is unexpected, but I am sceptical. Better than a Punpun adaptation though, that can only fail.

There's an art to subtlety, but I don't see it on display here. Being so overt about it just kills my interest outright.

he is so so deserving of an anime adaptation i hope this announcement brings his work to light. although a lot of people under this comment section view his titles as bad (although i think there is a fine line between this and inio’s work being nonconventional), i think his work is very subjective in the fact there are many philosophical aspects one may take out of them. tdlr yes i am dick riding this author heavy i am so excited

I know nothing about this studio, so I'm curious how they're gonna adapt this. my only hopes is their background art would be at least as stellar as the manga's. and I cant wait to see Ontan brought to life. that being said, I don't think Punpun should get any adaptation, ever.

I'm so hyped for this, and its his first anime too! First ever Asano anime, time to celebrate!

Its a shame the manga did kind of drop the ball at the end with the last couple of chapters, but the characters are a 10/10 that I almost don't mind it. That being said, an anime original ending that's an improvement to the manga's one is a welcome change.
