Wow, shit got real this episode. Interesting to also see more of Mimi's past and about her father.

Cocona/Mimi shows a more aggressive side while we get more to the truth of the Illusion. What an episode, a lot of tense and chilling moments. I'm also starting to like Yayaka and Papika's relationship more now after they encounter each other. Let's GO!

So much shits going on that I don't know where to start.
But still, it still doesn't explain why Papika got de-aged.

The answers are finally being revealed. Mimi's current personality sure is scary. I hope they manage to revert her somehow (and who knows, maybe they also manage to revive her entirely and have a happy family ending? :v)

Also, fuck Salt's dad. Like, seriously, he's the one to blame for this entire mess, in several senses.

Well, that was kind of crazy.

I'll be honest here. I don't find either Mimi or Salt that interesting as characters. They were both given some solid motivations (well, Mimi going entirely crazy and possessing her daughter doesn't really make sense without the context of Pure Illusion) through their backstory depicted here, but that's all that there seems to be. I don't think either were given enough nuance (lack of screentime contributed however it is possible for characters to make an impact or acquire nuance in a short timespan if a writer is skilled enough) to make them likable, relatable, or interesting (which are the three conditions a character must have to be a well-written character in my view). I can't really justify Salt's lack of character depth to be detracting from the overall narrative, however one can say that Mimi is some sort of force-of-nature villain that represents another of one of the challenges Cocona must face in her development towards being an adult (but what Mimi exactly represents other than maybe the having of a an overprotective parent or parents is beyond me).

Nyunyu is a random character that doesn't really add anything to anything. Like, what's the point of her being here? I'm trying to come up with various reasons (like maybe to showcase, emphasize, or represent a characteristic of amorphous or Pure Illusion), but I can't really think up anything solid. She's cute and all, but she kind of wastes precious screen time which could be used for more important things.

Disappointed with the lack of Cocona's character, Cocona and Papika interactions, and nonsensical and out-there symbolism of coming-of-age tropes and narratives (I mean, this episode was fairly nonsensical and pretty out-there but I don't think there's much here that really symbolizes anything significant) this episode which were, to me, the strongest elements this show had. I wanted to see more of Cocona who had a really interesting character (one out of three of the conditions I stated before). I also wanted to see Cocona interact more with Papika because of how it added depth to Cocona's own character and yuri is the best. I also wanted to see more of that weird symbolism because I do enjoy the walls of texts everyone builds about them. However, I guess they were forced to stuff this episode with explanation because there's only two episodes left and there was still a lot of stuff which needed to be explained. I wish they still made the explanation fairly simpler or, at least, didn't dump information on you all at the same time. I'm honestly having a hard time keeping track of all the developments that happened this episode.

So, for me, somewhat disappointing episode.

Amazing how much we got out of this episode. The flashback almost explained everything! And yes, Salt is my favourite character now like i expected.

So much happened in this episode—almost too much. Mimi, who's Cocona's mother, has two personalities; Dr. Salt's father is the cause of all the drama; and now the two worlds are starting to merge. Wild.

That's an intense episode more questions has been answered with Salt and Mimi as the main focus of this episode with the flashback and stuff, This was still a well written episode for me.With the KKK group almost gone, what will be the purpose of NyuNyu who came very late in the show? I hope for atleast a bit of her backstory I don't mind if it eats up the first part of the next episode, now my first guess on NyuNyu was wrong, now my another guess is she's Yayaka's "partner" like the twins and Papika/Cocona tandem, probably with her around they can do a magical girl transformation. Can't wait for that to happen.

Except the first 10 episode (only 7 in truth) that they "waste" was not really a waste, so yeah it's still the best anime ever of the season/year.

lol so people say that first episodes are a "waste" but i bet that if them weren't there they would say that there is a lack of character development or not understanding the meaning of pure illusion

that aside, this ep was really good, i feel sad for Papika when she heard from her 2 best friends that they hate her

easily best anime this season and maybe one if not the best of the year imo

A whole lot happened in this episode, and there are still 2 more episodes to go, with defeating crazy and possessive Mimi probably taking up most of that remaining duration. Although, have to agree that all the revelations and development did feel quite rushed.

There's no waste in the anime. The previous episodes are constructions to what happens now and with the relation of Papika and Cocona

That was pretty intense to say the least. Pretty expected that Salt would be the father, and it was nice seeing that Papika actually aged at one point. I guess the trauma from having her daughter taken away caused Mimi to create another personality...? Or wonder if it's just a side effect of pure illusion

That insert song at the end though. I needa hear the full version now

The way I read the episode is that Mimi went into her own Pure Illusion (Like they did with Salt's dad and Iroha) and It changed her into the person she is now. The only thing I'm still not sure about is Mimi disappeared and Papika got younger, but I chalk that up to Mimi bending reality.

Holy shit that was intense.
My guess is next episode will explain what happened to Papika, since we got the story from kinda Salt's view, but Papikana jumped when Mimi was leaving with Cocona, Papika needs to tell her part of the story too.

Holy guacamole that ep was glorious
Salt's backstory with Mimi was developed and we finally get confirmation that he is Cocona's father
Nyunyu is kinda a wild card here, don't quite know what she'll add to the anime yet, apart from the comedic relief when Bu-chan wet himself xD

Looks like Yayaka and Papika will have to work together to save their best friend
Can't wait to see what happens next!

Despite this probably being the weakest episode since the first, it's moved the plots massively, ready for our final 2 conclusive episodes and give us that wonderful yurific finale

The animation of this show has been flawless, the designs wonderful, the crazy symbolic imagery is on the level of Ikuhara's finest work and Cocona has to be amongst the best protagonists I've ever seen. Without a doubt, this is the best show I've seen in years no matter how it finishes even if they ruin the potential yurific finale
i thought the episode was important tho confusing. it revealed the backstories behind corona, salt, papika, flip flappers and the kkk group

Yeah, I suppose that Salt is Cocona's father (with the hint of Papika trying to say before they leave and when Salt remembered that scene after they were captured, he tried to escape with them), but I kinda don't feel convinced. Even if is obviously the truth, well... when "that" happened with much security around Mimi?

Wow, the imagery with claws reaching for cocona through the show, even the hansel and gretel imagery in the ED makes perfect sense.

All that is remaining now is for Cocona to become whole again and break out into actual reality from the delusions. Can't wait for next two episodes.

This was amazing. Perhaps my favorite episode.
Or at least it's definitely worthy of being my favorite episode. I could rewatch this again!
Absolutely no chill, and I recall some people theorizing about the id-ego-superego and i feel like it really emulated in this episode.

The animation is still impressively consistent and I love the idea of Mimi having the ability to manipulate her world seamlessly and she also has power over clovers??
I'm not sure why she can kill people with a meadow of clovers, but it's very eye appeasing to say the least.

And poor Salt. I was not expecting him and Mimi to have beef.
But, he's been through a lot and I'm curious about his crescent scar on the back of his hand.
It's the same place Mimi punctured through? Hmm. Interesting.
I think my favorite part of the episode was the intensified, dramatic buildup when Salt and Mimi face off
with Salt wielding his gun at Mimi. Especially when Mimi closes in on him with her face at gun point
and she tears up. Then, as soon as her tear lands on Salt's face, they transition into happy memories really
quickly at the height of the drama. Ugh. Whoever was on the story board for this, they did a good job of hurting me.

Edit: I love the new ED song o(≧∇≦o)

Intense episode, and we got some important revelations; Salt being Cocona's father for one. He always seemed mysterious to me tbh, so I'm glad we got to see his backstory.

So Mimi is pretty much "evil" to anyone not named Cocona. She's kinda twisted in that regard.
But damn is she OP; she can basically turn anyone into a plant and has the ability to teleport in and out of Pure Illusion at will. Not to mention that weird tentacle power she has. I'm curious how Papika and Yayaka are going to defeat her.

This show keeps getting better and better. Can't wait for next episode!

Yeah, I'm not feeling it. The whole thing feels too disconnected from Cocona's struggle as a teenage girl that the first 7-8 episodes so heavily focused on. All those reveals and twists are cool on paper but they fail to engage me on an emotional level and it becomes increasingly hard to care for whatever's happening on screen with Mimi, Salt, the KKK and whatnot.

@Jaguar-chan summed up my feelings pretty well.

Jesus Christ was that episode intense. I love how they totally flipped our expectations of Mimi between episodes. She has a kind of "fallen heroine" feel to her as she did what she thought necessary to protect Cocona, but gave into her dark side in order to achieve it. I'm expecting to see some badass moments in this Yayaka/Papika team up as well. This show really turned on the jets these last couple eps!

Aaah I'm conflicted, personally. I like the episode as an individual episode, but I don't like how it fits into the whole picture. It's a smart show, no denying that, but getting all crazy like this at the end doesn't feel right. Too much of the focus has shifted from Cocona, her relationships with the people around her, and her growing up to this bizarre family feud situation and a yandere mother with a split personality.

There are 2 episodes left, so I guess we'll see what happens. Things could still tie up nicely in the end, this just seems so abrupt right near the end of the series.

While I enjoyed these past few episodes I'm going to be honest.

I wish this show stayed the silly nonsensical show it initially was and didn't try so hard to bring meaning to everything in the end. I honestly had more fun with this series when it was just random crap happening every episode. I don't find the more serious elements very interesting.

also this episode isn't as visually interesting as past episodes. I wanted this show to go in a more FLCL route where it's just a fun series that doesn't necessarily make sense

That was an intense episode! I now see how Mimi was able to become so powerful. To think she was able to get rid of those KKK like members with clovers was very interesting to note. The battle scene between Dr. Salt and Mimi was really something else and trying to stop her felt nearly impossible. I never would have thought that Dr. Salt's father was the direct cause of Pure Illusion and that's when things got really heavy. I had a feeling that his voice sounded familiar which I know was from the leader of those people searching for the amorphous. Anyway, Mimi was probably was doing what was best for protecting Cocona. It's hard to see that Cocona's body is being taken over by her own mother. I know she was trying to protect her but Cocona has her own personality and friends she cares about.

I felt so sad about Papika almost nearly giving up without a fight after what had happened. But what surprised me was when Dr. Salt asked Yayaka to help Papika out. I guess I'm starting to like Yayaka even more after she just told Papika that Cocona was her best friend. I'm happy that they're both going to save Cocona despite whatever happens from here on out.

Well, hopefully with the remaining episodes, maybe we'll find out why Papika still remained her form even after all of those years. It's still one of my favorite shows of the season and I do look forward to next week! :)
