 To continue commemorating one hundred years of Japanese anime history, NHK has released a ranking for people's favorite anime characters as a part of Anime 100 celebration on Sunday at NHK BS Premium. The ranking was based from votes conducted from October 20 to November 19 last year. The 5-hour program also featured live dubbing (from works that people wish to hear again live and not yet animated), telephone call conversation, new year's greetings from the seiyuus, ranking, commentaries, as well as quizzes and talks about the characters in-between segments. | Most of the picks are kind of expected, all are popular characters from popular series, at least in Japan. Except for no.13. I never imagine Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku would have more cult followings than Cardcaptor Sakura. |

| I think I really need to see Kemono Friends to see why it's so popular in Japan. It came on Top in AT-X ranking as well (although most of the anime in AT-X ranking were pretty average). Two characters that stood out the most to me are: 25. Funassyi (CV: Funassyi) from Funassyi no Funafunafuna Biyori 30. Kyouya Hibari (CV: Takashi Kondou) from Katekyo Hitman Reborn! I mean I have never heard much about the anime Funassyi no Funafunafuna Biyori and never knew Hibari was THAT popular. I am also surprised that the list doesn't have any characters from popular series like One Piece, Haikyuu!!, TTGL, K-On!, Index, Girls und Panzer, Oregairu or Monogatari series given how those franchises are adored in the past and still are. Most of the characters are from newer anime which is understandable but somehow I cannot take this list seriously (and I probably should not).
