Well holy fuck, now that the anime moved to it's plot it has become so fucking good. This episode was brutal, my heart was pounding throughout the entire episode. Before I knew it the episode was over 😭😭
Now I just wanna see more episodes but there's nothing left, fuckkkk.
And his uncle, we haven't seen him before I think, what a shame :( may the surprise only be bigger though.
It's also a shame that we won't be able to see those two friends of Ushio's anymore, well.... probably.
Episode 8 'he is in the sky' what does that mean? :o

SO much plot this episode.
Can't wait to see about Ushio's mom.

Looks like the potential candidates for wielding the spear looks interesting too... seriously can't wait when they all try to battle Ushio.

Just to reassure folks, this is not episodic. The Monster of the Week shows we started off with had characters who will reappear and play important parts in the main plot arc which we have begun. What we have been given thus far is a mere teaser of what that plot line holds. Also, don't make assumptions based on the first impressions we're given of a character--there often is a lot more to them. Up until this episode you might have thought that his father was simply some sketchy minor priest who abandoned his temple and left Ushio alone for no good reason--now we know a bit more of what he is capable of. Even a minor thing like the old comb that his father stuck in Ushio's shirt pocket may turn out to be pretty important later on, but they aren't likely to reveal anything before its time.
Please don't feed the trolls!

didn't thought a lot could be introduced for one episode, considering its previous episodes.

> lively for an old guy and I've been laughing at his every appearance. But it seems to be a front for a serious man. a member in a serious organization. alternate life? But really, I think his graying wrinkly head is too advanced. late bearing perhaps...
> hakumen no mono is the enemy. destined nemesis?
> A woman is the leader. gender equality?
> A possible rivals for the spear, connecting to politics within the org. since it seems it has factions as the leader's order was not followed. Rivals and Politics?
> And most importantly, the beast spear used as weight for the noodles? pft. Hilarious?
> Also, for a finishing touch, a start for an honest journey, to escape the org., find his mom, discover the truth: of his destiny, mission, family. Though it seems romance is going to be left behind. This is a new 90 degrees shift from past episodes. Journey?

Whilst I'm not as impressed by the animation as others seem to be (c'mon, Mappa has animated better fight scenes than this), Ushio and Tora is the example I'm going to be using against all the other Summer anime regarding how to kick things up at the half-cour mark. Looking forward to how future episodes build off on this.

The animation of this series does not impress me, but I am interested in this series. The intro episodes were alright, but I was waiting for an episode like this to "kick-off" the main story arcs. I'm looking forward to seeing how the story unravels from here.

I started this out and thought I was just gonna get a fun, retro shounen, but it seems to be a lot more than that. Another fine output by MAPPA.

Kick-ass ep! The plot's really getting rolling now with what look's like a fairly long arc & exciting arc. And here I expected most events to happen in Ushio's hometown.

The hype is real.

Even so far though, I didn't feel as if any episode was wasted. The Monster of the Week episodes did a good job at building up the relationship between Ushio & Tora a bit, among other things. Mappa did the same with Garo and it worked out great, IMO.

I really love the back and forth with Ushio and his dad, and really liked the battle scene with Tora and the old man, I mean this whole episode was so well done to the music to the epic mini battle's.
The only that this week was missing was some little of the two girls but I'm that will come in the upcoming weeks..

I'm so confused. Last episode, episode 6, was that beach episode, right? So when did he fight that youkai that told him about his mother? That opening feels like a previous episode recall, but it's a flashback to a scene I've never seen before. Either some episode I saw accidentally cut off an important part during the uploading process or there's zero continuity. For this show's sake, I hope it's a tech error on my end, or else this show has the worst continuity gap of the season and Aoharu already had a really bad one.

I personally don't like the art because the styles don't match. The character designs keep their retro look, but then the background scenery looks more updated, and then there'll be really, really modern looking special effects. It feels like no communication went into what would be the best things to update and still have a coherent visual experience.

Other things I'd like improved? Less friendly fire violence between protagonists. It's been way more awkward than funny, and it makes the actual violence and certain other scenes like Ushio punching his dad for real lack impact. Next, more continuity. I mean, my confusion with this episode aside, unless I've been having way more tech errors than I thought, his dad finding out the beast spear was out was literally a blink and you'd miss it scene of him staring at the shed in shock. No real communication happened between the two of them prior to this episode, and they certainly could have squeezed that in somewhere and tightened up the monster of the week stuff a little. As much as the phrase "show don't tell" annoys me, why isn't the beast spear ever vocal to the audience? We've only ever heard Ushio talking about how he hears it. Also, Tora being evil in the past is only ever shown in that classical art style, so you never really get the sense that he's being reformed since he's been silly since the first scene he was legit shown in. And finally, given the frequency and scale and the youkai attacks, yeah, I know the beast spear is attracting them and we're following around protagonists who're deeply involved with this stuff, but we're on episode 7, we've seen no indication that there's any group/power going around erasing memories, so shouldn't it be more of a semi-open secret/conspiracy among the populace than the total shock just about all of the characters have expressed thus far? But that's more of a problem I have with the genre in general than Ushio specifically.

And then in regards to the score, Ushio's not doing extremely poorly. Most people, (32% of those who voted) just have it as an 8 for now because it hasn't really demonstrated the overarching storyline/character development yet. Not to mention 26K people have it on their watching list, and only like, 7K people voted, so the 7.65 only indicates a quarter of the potential opinions.

First off, regarding the episode 6, u did missed it... At the end, after the ending, there's "the recap" ;)

As for the art itself, I don't find that "lack of communication" u found, I think it's quite the opposite: They knew exactly what they wanted: Ushio to Tora was extremely popular at the time, even winning a couple of awards. I think the public audience is very well set: the fans of that time.
I've read the manga, yes, but by looking at the 1st episode it's quite clear that they wanted to keep the 90's vibe and still give it a space in time. I don't find that disturbing, I find it refreshing :)

As for all those questions about the violence/humor kind of thing, it's the autors touch... I'm not against it, sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't.
As for the rest, like 80% will be explained and will probably make more sense, and since I don't want to be spoiler... xD

The 7.85 is still very poor for something like this... I don't know, I feel like people don't respect classic things anymore, like "old" is "queasy"...
But hey... They already said that the main story will be adaptaded, so i'm not worried xDD

This is one my favorite shounens I'll be happy to finally see the animated ending ('cause trust me... it's one of the best endings in the anime world. And don't trust my list of animes, 'cause i've seen a lot xD)

This episode was perfect, the plot is so developed. Ushio's mother is still alive, his father is badass and he is a master in fight.

We learned some info about the user of the spear, some guys are trained to use it and to defeat THE MONSTER.

The action and the OSTs are awesome in this show, I'm happy that they chose to adapt the OVAs in an anime.
