Good episode. The training Peco is going through looked tough ;o

I really liked the build up this episode and I think Peco is doing a fine job so far in terms of efforts. The OST matched perfectly in coordination. It was also nice hearing the humming again. Some of the plays imo were also awesome.

Loved this ep. The development of each character is just astounding.

Loved how they showed Smile having emotions with how he got hurt about Koizumi agreeing to have him go to Kaiou. Really nice stuff there. Didn't expect he cared about Koizumi that much ^^ And the end with the new balls was nice too.

Koizumi's past is really giving me foreshadowing vibes for a Peco vs Smile. Seems like he held back against his friend in the past too. He seemed quite OP though hehe

Peco finally getting back into shape and getting used to a style better for him. I can't wait to see how he'll develop more and more :D Good to see he has a strong coach now :D His family was so lol XD

Sanada made himself notable to Yurie. Nice work. NTR that TT otaku XD Lol'd at Yurie's fist printed TT racket chocolate and lol'd even more at the drifting XD

Kong training against a machine was nice too. Can't wait to see him play ^^
I don't really see Kong as a side character anymore. He's definitely Main.

Amazing episode.
Obaba can be very funny at times, especially when she's talking to Peco.
Some of her lines even made Peco throw up lol.
Peco is back on track though, good old him, training hard like he should.
Smile is getting stronger and stronger every day, Koizumi can't even keep up with him.
Kazama is still the same, training like a emotionless machine.
Wenge is training against a robot with Kazama's data input, interesting.
So Koizumi was "Butteryfly Joe", he had a good backstory.
I hope Smile lives up to be the prodigy, that "Butterfly Joe" wasn't able to become.

I remember years ago a buddy of mine was trying to get me to watch the live action adaptation of this and I never got around to it. With how good this anime is, I wish I would have so I could have been exposed to this awesomeness back then but on the other hand it's nice to experience the story for the first time in anime form.

That being said, I want to pick up the movie but it's just so dang expensive: http://www.amazon.com/Ping-Pong-Yosuke-Kubozuka/dp/B000QXDG70/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1400785312&sr=1-2&keywords=ping+pong

Another great episode. Loved everything in it, from Peco training to Smiles developing relationship with Ohba(or whatever his name is). The characters and their interactions are just so natural.
I've never liked when stories go down that repeated history thing, hopefully there'll be a little change.
Can't wait to see how they all change by the end.

Peco is going through some extensive tough training.
His new coach is pretty good; devising a new style that would be suitable for him.
Peco's family was ridiculous. XD

Seems like Sanada is considering Kazama as his rival.. Good move on Yurie.
That was some crazy drifting though!

Koizumi and Smile's conversations were nice. Looks like Smile also has emotions too..
Loved Koizumi's legend of being the "Butterfly Joe." He was too nice to hold back against his friend..

Finally, they get their hands on some new ping-pong balls. Smile would probably become 2X as OP playing with those!

Good episode. Wenge needs more airtime though.

Everyone seems to be really developing as players (and people too). The final tournament is going to be a blast.

The part about Butterfly Jo seemed like a forshadowing of Peco and Smile. Especially since Ohba noticed Peco's knee. With 4 episodes left, the ending is starting to slowly appear.

This is the show I can't wait for this season.

I find it hard imagining a robot which is fast enough to play ping pong. But besides that, Wenge is my favourite character and he really needs more screen time!

Funny how Sanada declared war on Kazama! And the relationship between the old woman and Peco is also nice to watch, good to see Peco back in shape!

This show is really genuinely funny and exciting, love it!

everybody is training, i like that Wenge is practicing against a robotic arm lol, and Smile is practicing with better ping pong balls now, while Peco is showing that his got talent for ping pong but damn his legs has an injury just like the backstory about coach Koizumi so its like history repeating itself, meanwhile Kazama just frienzoned Yurie lol

Peco's leg makes me really nervous, considering the possible parallels with the past. But I am excited to see Smile and him go against each other. I enjoy that this all also deals with events outside of Ping Pong but are related to their great passion in the sport.

Peco's family all looking the same, the comment was funny.

Oh geez, there's a movie? I'm happy it has other adaptations, but I find anime/manga to live-action to be pretty bad most of the time. (Especially with J-dramas and movies.) Even something more realistic like Uchuu Kyoudai, for example... >>

And that commercial, trying very hard to be dramatic. XD

Well besides the point, good episode. Brings some warmth into Smile's character compared to previous episodes. Peco's getting serious and potential injury. I sense that that Smile vs. Peco will be like Butterfly Jo's match against his friend; the knee thing and all. If that's the case, not sure if Smile will defeat him or not.

And not that MAL ranks matter, but is that # >1000 I see? :D

Awww, we didn't get to see our drifter friend. :C He's probably overseas selling hotdogs at the international tournament.

Also I've got a bad feeling about Sanada (Kazama's teammate who keeps fawning after Yurie)... I really don't want it to go down this road but he's getting rather obsessed with her. I hope he doesn't like snap and try and rape her or anything. The fact we saw him wanking to a picture of her during the last episode put me off.

And woah, each character has been given so much development I'm surprised it has only been 7 episodes.

And this is actually GOOD development as in we see true changes in the characters, not the BS "development" people fawn over in lesser anime (aka they go through some shit, but they fundamentally remain as the same damn character).

I think this show has the best character development of the season.

It's amazing, in one episode they can pack more substance than most anime in a whole season. Here even some initially minor characters such as Ota and Sanada have depth. There are things happening on all fronts - Koizumi's past, Peco's training, KAzama's family, Kong and the robot :D

I do agree that we need to see more of Kong though, he is my favorite character.

''Want to go on a date?''
Damn, those old funky people xD
Such an awesome coach.

''You know coach, even myself I have feelings''
That somehow made me sad. Even if Smile isn't showing it by expression, you can see by his action that he have a lot of compassion for the world around him.

I would really love to see Kong make a return and beat his inner demon! He need a revenge agaisnt Kazama.

Peco is slowly coming back, even accepting to change his style. He isn't the same goofy Peko as before, he's a pumped superhero version Peko.

Poor Sanada dude, thinking he can hurt Kazama by stealing him Yurie. Even if he was able to steal her, Kazama wouldn't even fucking notice it xD

- One of the players China trains was able to see the number on the ball. Now that China is completely committed to his original duty, everyone around him is getting better.

- Peco back to his original look. He's stopped "letting himself go" and started a rigorous training regiment. But Peco shows his instinct towards instant gratification, this is the same sort of mindset that got him to become complacent in the first place. If the old lady wishes to build him back up she first has to get rid of all of Peco's bad habits.

- "It'll be sunset soon". Forshadowing perhaps.

-"We make the best couple, old lady!". I never noticed it until now, but who teaches you and your relationship with them has been an incredibly important point up to now in the show. How Peco and Smile's relationship was close, but how they never really nurtured each in other within the confines of the game is an interesting point.

On one hand we have Smile who has getting trained by Butterfly Joe to have more ambition, to exert himself and be the best he can be. However, what's more important is that Joe was able to connect with Smile on a personal level. Sure he was able to train and build up the Ping Pong player in Smile, but he was able to make a connection with the tacit introvert that Smile is. Outside of Peco, Butterfly Joe seemed to be the only other person who seemed to be there for Smile and even offered to have dinner with him.

On the other hand we have Peco who is now getting trained by the old ping pong hall lady. She's always been there, not quite in the background but not quite in the foreground either. She's dropped some cryptic, albeit, short messages to Peco during his time being the naturally gifted wunderkind. She's now took on an even bigger vested interest in him and she has already inspired him in his approach to the game, but also in life. To give it his all.

There's also Kaoi academy with it's cultish uniformity and it's strict code of conduct, Kong's old Chinese team, Kong's current team and Smile and Peco's current academy.

-Of course Smile is still being courted by Dragon and the Kaoi academy. But even Dragon appears to have a bit of a disconnect with what is inside him, and how he actually plays at the table. It's been hinted at earlier in the series. All those times that Dragon goes to the bathroom right before a match.

-"Even I have feelings. Even I get depressed or excited like anybody else." ~ Robot

- "Hey boy! Slow down, slow down!" ~ Butterfly Jo

- "If you won't give him any lovin, get out of his life" - Ping Pong Lady

- Smile once again runs away to avoid direct confrontation. I'm beginning to wonder where he gets that song that he hums to himself. I have a feeling that it might have been something he used to do when he was locked up in the lockers as a kid.

- We now somewhat know why Dragon goes to the bathroom before every match.

What an episode.

Why does this show have such low ratings wtf cannot comprehend.
Easily the most well made show of the season and possibly the year. On top of creative directing, it's unpredictable, has amazing character development, uses non-typical art style correctly.

Because my friend this requires the person TO THINK.... Most people don't actually use their heads during animes and just enjoy the show. While in this anime you actually have to dig deeper to the big picture, and people on this site don't like that.... Plus A LOT of people are judgmental on art in anime so if they think it looks like shit, 99% they wont watch it x.x Mal logic at its finest.

Respect to Koizumi, that career ending decision of his was no easy one. I like how him and Smile have developed a deeper bond as coach and athlete. The interactions between the old lady and Peco are hilarious, but with that taping on his knee I wonder if it'll be a repeat of what Koizumi's friend went through.
