Big Fu**ing Giant Challenge

This challenge might be the biggest Manga Reading Challenge as of yet. So think of it as our opus magnum. A Big Fu**ing Giant Challenge, if you will. It is a journey through time, from the very beginnings of manga until today. We want to encourage you to join us on this time travel, through different drawing styles, eras and themes. It is a hard challenge and not everyone will endure it. Can you?
To get things started, we looked for available manga up until the 1970s. We hope this makes the challenge a bit more approachable and offers a good starting point.
Please read the rules section carefully, because this challenge features a twist midway.

This challenge was inspired by IanBlades Ultimate Anime Watching Challenge.

Requirements/Rules:

• Manga type only.
  
  
• Minimum required chapter count is 2.
  
  
• Manga previously started can only be used if there's no alternative left*.
  
  
• Manga previously read can only be used if there's no alternative left*.
  *Mark those in italics. (These rules especially affect the years 1934-1970.)
  
  
• Publishing can be used, but you must be up to date at the time of your turn-in.
  
  
• Cannot use the same manga/entry twice.
  
  
• Start date is the day you post.
  
  
• The badges do not represent the years for your turn in! They are meant as stretching goals and small rewards, to encourage you to keep on reading and finish the challenge eventually.
  You turn in after completing all the years from 1934-20XX. (=162+ manga)
  
  
• The advanced search might be a helpful tool. Make sure you pick "Type: Manga", add the starting month/year and sort the list according to the starting date.
  Tip: You can add "&show=50" at the end of the URL (and continue in steps of 50 like 100, 150, 200, etc.) in order to change pages.
  
  
• Important: As time passes, the challenge gets longer and longer.
  Since we can't guarantee any available titles for the respective last year, you can wrap the challenge up one year earlier, meaning if you finish the challenge in 2020, you need to complete the years up to (and including) 2019. If you finish the challenge in 2021, you need to complete the years up to (and including) 2020 etc.

  If you finish the challenge in 2020, you need to complete the years up to (and including) 2018. If you finish the challenge in 2021, you need to complete the years up to (and including) 2019 etc.
  Ideally you read something for every year, excluding the current year. But because of a lack of titles you are allowed to skip over two years, meaning if you finish the challenge in 2020, you need to complete the years up to (and including) 2019 or 2018. If you finish the challenge in 2021, you need to complete the years up to (and including) 2020 or 2019, etc.
  
  Important twist:
  
• You need one (1) title per year for the years 1934 - 1989.
  
• After that, the challenge turns seasonal. From 1990 onwards you have to read four (4) titles per year, one per the following seasons:
  
  - Winter (Jan, Feb, Mar)
  - Spring (Apr, May, Jun)
  - Summer (Jul, Aug, Sep)
  - Fall (Oct, Nov, Dec)
  
  - The publishing starting date indicates under which season/year a manga falls. If a manga began publishing on April 23rd 2013, it falls under Spring 2013.
  
  
• This challenge is restricted to the MAL-database and their provided publishing dates only. (We are aware some dates might be differing from other databases.)
  
  
• If an entry only lists a publishing year but no month, it cannot be used for the seasonal years.
  
  
• PSA: The Sign-Up Code is split into two sections, which is for the sake of convenience only and to avoid endless scrolling.
