Manga needn't always take itself seriously or have convoluted plotlines with time travelling shenanigans or endless drama at every turn, sometimes all a manga needs to do is be a slice of life about an ex-yakuza who's living his best life! I first picked up Gokushufudou or Way of the Househusband as an experiment, as the cover was enticing and the allure of the aesthetic of the titular character Tatsu was too great for me to resist. What i found however was perhaps one of the only mangas, nay BOOKS that I have truly 'laughed out loud' at. The characters are charming, the adventures are ... wacky yet still having some credibility and believability to them, and even though an overarching plot is lacking, I stay up to date just to see what Tatsu, the Househusband has gotten himself into this time. Overall, a charming piece or manga media that is honestly funny and a great change of pace for someone who reads waaaay too much shonen and the like.

Plot - ex-yakuza becomes a damn good househusband. Slice of life as he gets involved in the community (even though they are terrified of him and his looks at first), constantly telling the cops he isn't up to shady stuff despite looking like he is, deals with his otaku wife and helps his sworn younger brother. Episodic format, but some link together and characters are often recurring. All are lovable, some more than others, or interesting at the very least. Omake are wonderful. Lots of excellent puns and translation is great.

A lighthearted comedy slice of life centered around one joke- a berserk yakuza turned househusband. There is no storyline, every chapter is an excursion in Tatsu’s life. There is no depth either, nothing to make you care for these characters. The charm is how the author makes everyday mundane activities fun and entertaining. Even with all these flaws, you will not be bored. The art and dialogue are above average for this genre. If you are a big fan of these genres, this is probably an 8/10, but if you value emotional power above all else as I do, I think you will have close ... to the same rating.
