Angel Beats!

Death is one of many mysteries that has left humanity in the dark since the dawn of time. However, the burning question of what happens to the soul after one dies is soon answered to 17-year-old Yuzuru Otonashi. Waking up with no previous memories in a dimension between life and death, he discovers the unsettling truth of the afterlife.

Taking the form of a high school, this bizarre dimension is designated to shelter those who died unwanted deaths. Feeling wronged by God during their earthly lives, the school's residents have decided to form the Afterlife Battlefront—a rebellious faction determined to oppose their god-like student council president, Kanade "Angel" Tachibana. The group's leader, Yuri Nakamura, recruits Otonashi in their fight against Angel in order to take control of their own lives. However, questioning the morality behind their actions, Otonashi takes a step behind the enemy lines to understand the opposing side of their common fate.

Very funny, can't think of annoying fanservice moments.
Crybait, except it works with the setting.
Ending is good (kinda).
Anime was too short for its own good, giant missed opportunity.

Random thoughts:
Artstyle is pretty, Kanade has a good design. Hinata and Otanashi are the broest of bros, are you really best friends if there's no gay allegations going around? If only there was more episodes, when I think of anime that are too short for their own good I immediately think of this. Oh yeah, I also liked Naoi (idk if I'm spelling his name right lol).

Mixed Feelings

7.5/10 here are my opinions

Pros:
- beautiful visual (especially for the anime standar in the past, in terms of graphic quality standard)
- nice OST (not all, but half of it)
- at first it seems like gag comedy action sci-fi (?) but later u will be surpsied bcs the genre will take a huge twist into melancholy drama genre
- it has some good moral values

Cons:
- the setting and theme is actually very great but the execution is kinda lame, nonsensical, and even cringe. With all the scifi-like elements
... - the way the story progress was kinda rushed

But anyway its worth to try so go ahead

I am a diehard Key fan, but this show is just not it, man. Jun Maeda can make beautiful stories when he wants to, but then you have shows like this where it makes me wonder what Maeda even wanted to write in the first place. When I want to consume a Key work, I consume it with the intent to laugh and cry. This show does none of these things and I came out disappointed.

Some of the characters are simply rehashed from other Key works which it makes it super boring to watch(one egregious example being Yuri who is literally just Saya from ... Little Busters!) the sad scenes are sprinkled throughout the story with no rhyme or reason, this is a Key staple but I hate the fact that 90% of the show is wasted on slice of life bullshit with the characters that are trying too hard to be funny, and the contrived romance subplot shoved in at the very last episode. These aspects of the show frustrated me to the core that it still puzzles me on how this show even got its praises.

The few praises I will give to this show is that the music is really awesome and it shows that Maeda is better at composing music than writing stories. The animation is nothing home to write about and I'm fairly satisfied by the voice cast.

Key has a formula that works, but they need to stop using it in everything they make. Anyway, please read the First Beat VN for a much better experience.
