 The cover of this year's 31st issue of Weekly Shounen Jump magazine, to be released on July 4, has announced that the parody comedy manga Gintama will be getting a live-action movie slated for 2017. Yuuichi Fukuda will be directing and writing the script of the movie under Warner Bros. Entertainment, who also produced the animated Gintama films in 2010 and 2013. Actor Shun Oguri will play the role of the main character, Gintoki Sakata.The Gintama series, which has announced that it will enter its final arc by this year, was created by Hideaki Sorachi and began serialization in December 2003. The series has received various anime adaptation, with the most recent TV series ending in March of this year. Gintama OVAs were announced to be bundled with the 65th and 66th manga volumes this year. | I was expecting this. Shounen Jump did similar things last year. First "Naruto: The Musical", then "Bleach: Rock Musical". Not to mention the horrible live action adoptation of "Death Note". But... why? Why!? The comedy doesn't really translate to live action...!!!! |

| Damn why would anyone normal even go to watch this if he isn't a fan of the series. Who's gonna be their audience? Just series fans? What plot will they do? Action or comedy? Plus Gin won't be played by Sugita, so why even bother. |

| I don't understand why people are bashing this before it is even out. I for one am hyped as fuck for this movie, because Shun Oguri is an amazing actor, and he will do justice to Gintoki. The only thing that matters is if the director and screenwriter are good. If we get the Rurouni Kenshin treatment, or Bakuman treatment it will be an amazing movie. |
| A live action adaptation does not lessen the quality of the anime/manga. No need to get upset about something like that. No one says Avatar the last Airbender is bad because the live action movie sucked. |

| I mean at least this won't be as cringy as the others announced recently (Tokyo Ghoul, Fullmetal) because Gintama doesn't rely on many special effects that will be ruined by the low budget nature of the Japanese film industry. Could have potential, but I'm not gonna watch it regardless. |

Due to 'most' of the cast being human and not too many grandiose power-ups needed to be shown with special effects. |
