“Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

Now towards my anime taste(which most people say is shit.but who gives a shit about them).
Now before we go ahead .I will make one thing clear I do NOT HATE any genre.
here is how I priorities the 5 main things about anime.
Enjoyment > Story > Characters > Sound >Visuals.
Now We will deal with each thing in detail.
Enjoyment - now my definition of enjoyment is how much I liked an Anime for its main genre from MY view.
Story- just should not bore me if it is non - episodic.
Characters - Now while we are talking about characters let me make one thing I am not gay for Male characters. It is just that I have tooo many waifu(s).So It is hard for me to choose to who should add to my fav character list.
and My Ultimate waifu is Marika Tachibana.
Sound-OST(ex Death Note) and Voice acting(ex Osomatsu-san) plays a very huge role for my rating of anime as a whole.
Visuals- Not give too much attention unless they look really awesome(ex Nagi no Asukara and Attack on Titan) or are really unique(ex Monogatari Series and The Tatami Galaxy).

I don't necessarily hate unrealistic characters. It's just there needs to be some sense of rationality or logic balanced at least, depending on what genre you're involving.
Yes, she's technically a narcissist, but that doesn't make her a bad character in terms of writing. I hate this obnoxious generalization of the need to put main protagonists on pedestals for being "white knight" goody-two-shoe heroes with big campy aspiring dreams. That's what frustrates me with most mainstream shows.
Elaina isn't written to be a hero. This ridiculous whining of wanting her to be some "heroine of justice" is just silly to me. Believe me when I say that her being something akin to Shirou from Fate would be so offputting and boring to me. She's actually more relatable to me as regular people. Is it nice to play with the idea of always wanting help out in any bad looking incident? Sure, but good luck trying to hold up to those ideals. It's just not gonna work out.
She's simply a normal traveler in the end. Sure, she has magic, but everyone should know that magic ain't the answer to solving everything; if anything, it can more often make situations worse. In fact, Elaina's involvement in certain events or situations have often either changed nothing or just made things more soured.
At the same time, though, she turns out to be a lot more kind and caring (the light novel was better at displaying this, though, cause novels tend to expand upon unspoken thoughts and dialogue) and will at least try to help if it's within her means to do so and if she can have something to benefit from it herself.
She's not cynical, but more pragmatic, aka thinking about things in a more logical and reasonable way, albeit more so for her own well-being, which is something any one of us can relate. Again, good luck trying to think trying to help out all the time and be heroic will actually have realistic benefits, it's just simply not gonna work out. I've seen many shows where the hero tries too hard to be a figure of justice only to have nasty whiplashes that may or may not negatively affect their character development.
You do not need to like her, though. What you DO need to know is why she acts as such without taking shit at face value, the latter of which is such a big fucking problem with the anime community nowadays.
Hope this was helpful to a degree, sorry for the bluntness, though.
