Ah more character chemistry this episode.

I really like how the two main characters are getting along more like friends despite just meeting recently. The way they practice from night to morning day shows a bit about their determination. I still think Takumi is having a hard time opening himself to others. Pacing feels okay so far, nothing too fast as it's building more on its characters. The art remains quite realistic for the show still and I'm pleased with that.

Judging by the post-ED scene, I'm guessing Takumi has some sort of illness.

So far it goes 'ok'

I really liked the realistic art style but somehow I don't like the MC but still I need to watch more episodes to reach a fair judgement.

This show is interesting to analyze.

Takumi is really hard to read. I think, he doesn't want to experience failure and despair under any circumstance and blocks everyone.

Takumi has been a real jerk to Seiha. Seiha got hurt from running in the beginning? It was also really weird how Takumi slipped and apparently almost died, then later ended up crying spontaneously. Maybe because he realized how mean he was being yet his brother was still caring.

So far it's fine, not that complicate which may be good, and from the last scene I am assuming he had an illness during his early childhood probably.

Why is almost everyone against children playing a sport in this anime?

Takumi was being a real jerk to Seiha this episode. No need to say all those mean things.
Throwing his baseball into the forest.

Gou's Mom wanting him to quit Baseball.

Seems like Takumi has some sort of illness at the end.

Wait what, Takumi's not even 13? He looks and sounds like a 16 y/o though.
And what a jerk he was to his little brother.

Takumi is pretty jerk-ish to Seiha, but there's probably more to it? I said last episode that maybe Takumi feels something other than worry when telling Seiha not to play baseball, although this episode he clearly does worry about Seiha. He's also aware that the worst things come out of his mouth, he's a lot more complicated than what's on the surface imo.

Although just with two episodes so far, I haven't figured him out yet, but with the scene after the ED, I think maybe we are beginning to understand him a bit more? Does seem like he has some illness, or may be easily susceptible to getting (very) sick. I mean I don't think you can have some sort of illness but still be able to run like that everyday and play sports, but idk, I'm not that well-versed in physical illnesses so I could be very wrong about Takumi having weak immune system. In Seiha's case, I think he might have a weak heart, and not necessarily asthma like I thought he might have from the last episode. Again, I'm probably very wrong.

Anyways, I was really surprised when Takumi's eyes welled up and he crouched and started sobbing :( Even if I don't like how Takumi speaks down to a lot of people around him, my eyes also welled up at that scene. Really looking forward to seeing him fleshed out. Baseball is indeed number 1 in Takumi's eyes, seems like it was on reflex that Takumi protected his pitching arm when he fell into the pond. And as of right now, Nagakura feels like he's us, the audience. He's telling Takumi things that most of us probably would like to reprimand Takumi for, but without fully understanding Takumi's situation. Not saying Takumi is justified for speaking so harshly and arrogantly though.

Which reminds me, I kind of understand why Takumi got angry at Nagakura for saying that he's never been under pressure in baseball. If in addition to being talented, you also tried really hard to polish your skills, it's kind of frustrating when people say something like that to you, as if you didn't have to try hard at it. Nagakura probably didn't mean it that way, but it feels like he downplayed Takumi's hard work. I can believe if Takumi asserted that he was the one who made sure he played well enough to not have to encounter such pressure.

Takumi definitely has some personality problems that he needs to work on but I couldn't help feeling sorry for him the entire episode. Seeing him just makes me feel bad. I'm sure there's more to him than just an arrogant kid. His mother bothers me tbh (although not all the time) and same with Nagakura's mom. Such selfishness.

And my god Seiha is adorable.

MC not even 13 years old yet but looks like 16...really? Well his attitude is a bit childish and thinks everything resolves around him.

You can tell this is more character/drama driven than most sports anime.

Takumi is "not even 13 years old"? Wow.. I totally thought he & Gou were like 15/16 and ready for high school. But seems like it really is just middle school. Okay... that's weird. They look/seem older.

And Takumi is really hard to read. I hope we get more insight soon. We did he cry? Too many interpretations possible... let's see if we learn more about him next episode.

I really disliked the mothers in this episode. Surely they meant well but they did so much wrong.

I hate how they made him LOOK older, because he thinks and acts like a normal, albeit egotistic, 12yo. (If he was actually 16yo people wouldn't tolerate him as much.) So if he actually looked his damn age it wouldn't be as big as a problem as a viewer. Why the hell did they go with these character designs? Takumi even sounds like he went through puberty already with his voice.

And why are all the adults relying on a 12yo instead of doing their jobs as parents? Great how they don't try to understand that passion for sports either... Wow, Takumi's got an annoying personality, but it's realistic and I understand (and relate...) where he's coming from and his actions far better than for the adults.

Think about it this way - you're good at something. Really good. And you know it because you do better than others. However, the people who you really want to acknowledge that skill tell you (indirectly) it's not worth your time (tell others to quit), that you're not as good as you think you are (why learn other balls, can't take pressure) etc. Of course he gets angry or defensive, he has a lot of pride about his skill, but people focus on the flaws.

He's defending himself when his weak spots are pointed out by lashing out at others because otherwise he's left vulnerable and feeling humiliated/embarrassed. He has expectations of himself and others that aren't being met - however, when he's caught off-guard (by Seiha's comment in this episode), he ends up crying because he was overwhelmed by his feeling of relief/joy or whatever he felt that he is understood or appreciated...(Seiha: I know that you would come. So I waited.) Takumi cares for his little brother (a lot), which is why he's so harsh towards him. Takumi's logic is something like this - he wants Seiha to feel that there is no benefit to baseball and give up, and the way he does it reflects how Takumi himself would give up on something. When there's no hope/point to doing it, severe criticism, and a lack of appreciation from everyone if he were to do so.

Takumi will grow as a character by relying on others more, opening himself up for criticism.
Which won't be easy, as that pride and fear of being vulnerable orrelying on others is stubborn af.

Hahah I just find it so funny that people are surprised now that he's only 12-13 even though it was said already last ep. To think I would pay more attention than some others. But he really doesn't look like he's only in his first year of middle school.

Good episode, I like the character chemistry that Takumi and Go are building up.

Takumi seriously doesn't look his age at all, He's not even 13 years old :o.

Takumi really does treat Seiha badly but honestly I'd blame his Mom and Go Mom's , It's because they keep asking him to talk to Seiha and ask him to give up baseball that he ends up being so rude to him.

Quite perceptive of Go to figure out that Takumi was weak against pressure, He's also never been up against bases loaded and no out or had anyone hit consecutively off him. Based on the post credit scene and the events that transpired I assume he has some kind of illness that makes him really weak under pressure. Probably why he makes it a point to never let anyone get a hit off him or why he doesn't want to bother himself with things that would only add pressure.

My god, the mothers in this show are terrible. Please don't tell me actual Japanese parents force 12 year olds to give up their hobbies and dedicate all their time to studying for the sake of their "future". That's just how you get your children stressed, depressed, and anti-social. They've still got 6 whole years until they're even in college, let alone looking for a job. Leave them be.

I still dont get whats the point of this series.

Pitcher seems to have reached early puberty..

The cruelty towards the little brother is just too bad. Telling no you cant play without any proper reason.

The ending scene was a bit promising, something happened before.. hmm.

I think they've made it very clear that the reason Takumi doesn't want Seiha to play baseball is because he has some sort of condition that makes him very frail with a weak constitution. Yes, I think he could be a little nicer about it, but he's just concerned for his health. And that last scene shows that maybe he has (had) something similar?

I am enjoying this show. I think the dynamics between all of the characters is done really well. But I just wish they'd pick up the pace a bit. Especially if this is really only going to be 11 episodes.

There's obviously a lot more to Takumi, and they are slowly peeling back layers, and I like the fact that Gou is really helping to bring him out of his shell.

Well , I love anime sports, but ''Battery'' just feels like more Slice of life instead of sports lol. They have great animation tho.

I like how at least they got knowledge of curve balls, breaking balls and sinkers tho props to that , anybody who watches baseball would know that haha

And idk, the way the characters looks like and their personalities look more like 16 years old, not 13 lmfao, and Takumi's mom even said he's not even 13 yet I was like WTF XD

What are you guys opinions ;)?

Quit baseball to focus on your studies, when you're 12? I know how Japan is big on the whole studying to get into a good school thing, but it still feels like overkill. Not to mention trying to force Takumi to get them to quit. Jesus, no wonder he acts like that.

Best part of the episode though was when the two brothers were arguing and Go is like " nice one little guy" without being able to read the mood ... if it was me intead of takumi then youd know for sure that after Go is Gone ( no pun intended ) seiha would have had to go through worse than if go hadnt meddled

I like how the show make 13 year old pouty snub nosed teenagers feel like 13 year old pouty snub nosed teenagers , but with the current pacing im not sure we'd reach anywhere by the end of 11 episodes.

This show is like the Hai to Gensou of baseball anime. I was subconcsiously comparing it to Ace of the Diamond, but that's not going to work for this one. I'll give it a few more episodes though before deciding whether or not Ill drop it.

On a different note Takumi is kind of a major dick though im sure he has his reason, but still there's pretty much no reason to tell a 4th grader not to follow his dreams.
Around and around the cycle goes.
