THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
2nd episode aired as part of the 1 hour special. Well, now that I look at it, I think the action is good for this show. They got back to their world too. Well overall, I think the themes of the show is on track now.

I'm hoping to see some of these girls' backgrounds soon. I'm hoping Mimori gains a bit more confidence soon but her battle outfit is kinda flashy. I still find the Vertex or whatever they are to be pretty odd. The OST got better.

Only 2 episodes in and already 3 Vertex were thrown at them. I'm amused at how the cores behave, they aren't just sitting ducks now and will move and multiply to avoid destruction

Mimori just turned into a disabled badass also there's a video game adaptation of the anime coming on the 26th of February 2015 on the Vita, I'll buy it if it turns out to be decent once the PVs are out.

Already second episode,
with this enemies and the girls transform
it feel like watching Madoka Magica.

I really like Yuuna and Mimori costumes :)

A video game adaptation i hope it will be action rpg
game and not a visual novel, sound nice fighting this
giant enemies on a game like this.

So much for those prayers. They didn't seem to have much spirit to them, though. At least at first.

Well, I guess that guy wasn't too tough. Lucky for them - especially with having to be taught as they go along.

Yuna's poor hand...

There's no need to feel ashamed about yourself, Togo.

Card stopping in mid-air. That's one way to show time stopping. And it means they'll never find out the full fortune.

Two this time? No. Three? At once?

Yuna doesn't hesitate to transform. And they leave Togo behind. Again. That's the real problem, isn't it?

And pro teamwork from their enemy. One firing, one mirroring the shots, and the third attacking at close range. And Yuna bears the brunt of it all.

Whew that transformation!

If Yuna was a natural... what the hell is Togo? WOW.

But... I bet there's something in those missing memories. Noone can just be that good.

(edit: set the scene at the end of Yuna's transformation as my desktop background)

Nope, they're always that size. It's just her uniform makes them not stand out at all, and the majority of shots of her in her uniform are from such an angle that it hides them a lot as well, whereas her outfit very clearly displays (even exaggerates) their size, and obviously that transformation scene had a closeup of that area.

(assuming you're talking about Mimori of course)

It is like an innocent Mahou Shoujo show, if the creator wasn't Akame ga Kill's author, Takahiro. Just knowing this makes me think of Magika Madoka.
Nice visuals and OST, interesting Vertex designs too.

Not a fan of transformation scenes but everything else looked nice.
I was wondering how Togo's powers would have helped her overcome the fact that she is crippled and i have to say her outfit helped a lot with that.
And she seems to be good with guns tho her outfit is also very revealing and this episode seemed to have more fan service then the last episode, not that it's a bad thing.

I have to say that the school is also pretty well equipped seeing they even have an elevator to bring Togo upstairs.
Which makes me wonder if she is the only crippled student in the school.

Having to seal the Vertex to get the soul to come out.
The slice of life component when they are at school is nice too.
O.o Togo's transformation is a little weird. She with all those powers and those guides.
The way she walks though... feels like the mad scientist.
Using guns and to be able to shoot such a fast target!

Thoughts after two episodes:

* I like these girls. They feel like real people, they've all shown glimpses of both strengths and weaknesses, and we're already getting lots of team building and friendship development between the four (it feels like I've already seen more inter-team bonding in the first two episodes of this show than I've seen in the entire run of Sailor Moon Crystal so far). It's interesting that even though the senior girl is officially in charge, both Yuki last episode and Togo in this episode showed that they can be capable leaders and tacticians as well. I wonder if that will lead to some issues or conflict later on.

* It feels kind of refreshing to see a non-sports school club in an anime that's actually well-organized, productive, and beneficial to their school community. I think I've been watching too many shows lately in the Haruhi/InouBattle/K-ON mold where the club members spend so much time goofing around and doing nothing clearly useful that you wonder how the school lets them keep operating - no such worries about this club when they're busy fostering kittens and performing puppet shows for elementary schools.

* I suppose the Madoka comparisons are easy and inevitable, but I noticed a lot more stuff that seemed inspired by the Persona series, from the whole alternate "frozen-between-moments-in-time" world they have to go fight in, to the heroes using a school club as cover for their real activities (a-la the SEES club members in Persona 3), to the little avatars that accompany the girls like mini-personas during the fights, to the bizarre/creative/cool designs of the bosses, to even the way the bosses in this episode were strong against certain types of attacks and weak against other types. And if all that wasn't making the connections obvious enough, we have Itsuki in this episode pulling out a tarot deck and laying down a bunch of major arcana cards! So is the mysterious Taisha this universe's version of Igor?

* I liked the animation and the artwork a lot - especially that alter-world they fight in, which looks kind of like a Thomas Kinkade painting that's been re-interpreted by Vincent Van Gogh. Nothing about the soundtrack really stood out yet.

* Overall, I'm very pleasantly surprised. This show already had one strike against it by starting so late, after I'd already committed myself to watching six other shows this season, and the previews weren't super-inspiring either. At best I thought it might be a decent-ish slice-of-life comedy with some occasional action breaks, but nothing that would really demand my attention. Instead I'm getting "Persona with magical girls," plus likeable characters and an actual story? Now how am I supposed to resist a combination like that? Sold!

That sealing ritual seems really flawed. So I'm gonna take it they can't defeat an enemy by themselves since apparently they need to surround the enemy and chant. Wouldn't be surprised to see a fight later on where 2-3 of the girls are incapacitated and the last one somehow defeats one by themselves with the power of friendship.

The CG is starting to bother me too, last episode they had a lot but it was mostly for when the girls were far back but getting closer shots and being really noticeable.

I can clearly see the combination now. And the Social Links are replaced with Slice of Life parts. So I call this anime Persodoka!

The directing was okay, nothing special though. Many scenes didn't have strong presence like they should.

Anyone notice how when the destroyed the souls, pedals of the flowers on their outfits started to glow? I'm sensing a Madoka-esque "magical purity meter" of some sorts... idk if i want to stick around to find out though. Honestly, the best part about this show so far was, as someone else mentioned, the 5-6 times they cut to Togo's body jiggling when she fired her rifle.

And I got my wish, Mimori has become a magical girl and fought too. It was cool that she is not standing on her own... I predicted she will have the ability to stand up in the hero mode.

Can't wait to see if this can develop into a more better series. I even want to see if we are going to get human enemies.

Are they really up in arms over it? XD Well, when I first saw Fuu transform I thought "Mami with a broadsword" and I'm still anticipating, not eagerly, the moment when someone dies so can't blame them.

I think it's really interesting that they opted with the Dr. Octopus-lace legs for Togo instead of "I can walk!" miracle. Looking at that jiggles gif, one can even make a case that her lace-legs steadied her body that's why only the butt jiggled when she fired XD

I wasn't expecting this to have magical girl elements at all. I thought it was gonna be the average, slice of life, all-girls cast anime. The animations and the music are nice too.

Now then, the third episode, heads will be rolling. Well, I'm not expecting that Urobuchi had a hand on it so it probably ain't happening.

I almost skipped this anime, because it said slice of life... if this is truly slice of life, then i must be one of those random citizens, just a part of the world to fill the empty space with no orientation of what is going on O.o

This is very good so far! and Togo is awesome. I was wondering how they would approach her fighting, when she is paralysed from the stomach and down. I love their resolve.

Oh yeah and i really dig that circular message app, high five to the UX/UI designer.

So the vortexes are really gonna affect the real life, now that sounds very interesting.
Realistic conflicts. Now that's how you do anime.

Dat Togo fanservice. She is a badass. I like the fact that she can't use her legs even in her transformed form (tho its a bit sad as the opposite could be good too and would cause further drama. Like her wanting to stay in her transformed form where she can 'move over her legs' but I guess that can apply in this way too)

Okay this episode was awesome just as the first one. I am in love with this anime now, definitely in my top 3 of this season.

This show uses a lot of magical girl tropes, nothing shameful about that, but no-one can deny the Madoka influence.

The whole mood when they're fighting, lets face it, you'd be outright lying to say that's not the first thing you thought after they got thrown into that artsy-fartsy space-time, an obvious throwback to the Barriers generated by Witches. Instead of mahou-shoujo we now have HEROES, enemies have cores which give the destroyer some kind of energy, the main characters have similar color themes etc.

MSM & NGE stuff aside, I'm enjoying the cheesiness and light hearted mood so far. I seriously thought multiple enemies would mess them up, but I guess there's plenty of time to get dark if it wants to. Other than putting their lives in danger by fighting, there doesn't seem to be any other major drawback or catch to being a HERO.

Wouldn't mind it being more like a traditional "feel-good" mahou-shoujo anime, we'll see how it goes.

Animation's great. OST is great. Character design is alright.

But I take back what I said last episode. The setting and mood is all over the place. The comedy stops this from being remotely serious... and they grasp their powers pretty quickly. Lack of build-up. I think this will turn out just another mahou shoujo. Not a dark one.

But I still enjoy the Madoka influence. :)

Wow I just...don;t know what to say about this show. I love the characters already, and the mahou shoujo aspects are pretty cool. Unfortunately, I find the comendy parts unfitting. It feels like a trap though...surely it won't be this easy to destroy the Vertex in a couple of episodes... :(

however, I don't like how they added the fanservice into Togo's transformation/action...this doesn't really feel like the kind of show that would do this :/

Nonetheless, I am enjoying it...I'm looking forward to the next episode!
