Synopsis

In her everyday life, Yuuna Yuuki is a hero. As proof, she is in her middle school's Hero Club, where she does her best to help others and bring a smile to everyone's face.

But Yuuna, always up to any task, is about to become an even bigger hero. Mysterious destructive forces called Vertexes begin threatening the world she loves, and the Hero Club is called upon by a strange phone app to save it. Along with her best friend Mimori Tougou, as well as sisters Fuu and Itsuki Inubouzaki, they must transform into magical girls in order to battle the Vertexes.

In between studying and putting on shows for kids, Yuuna and the Hero Club must fight for the very existence of their world and face the harsh truths behind their own powers, all the while discovering what it truly means to be a hero.

Overview:
When "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" first graced our screens back in 2011, it pretty much singlehandedly redefined the magical girl genre as we had come to know it. Before then, very few people had even considered a darker take on the genre, and even fewer could claim to have seen one, but nowadays such takes on the genre are far from uncommon, to the point that I'd even go so far as to say they're the norm. "Yuki Yuna is a Hero", an original anime released in 2014, is one such series, and while it may not be quite as deep or emotional as the ...

Mixed Feelings
I've never felt compelled to write a review until now, because even though I didn't particularly enjoy this anime, I still want you to watch it. If you're like me, someone somewhere recommended this anime because you're a fan of Mahou Shojou Madoka Magica. As a huge fan of that franchise, I found this series to be the poor man's Madoka, and pretty underwhelmed with the recommendation. While I think they were trying for a balance of darker storylines and lighthearted character moments, I feel that they way overcompensated with too much of a slice of life element too often. The majority of the series ...

Guys, I tried.

I really, REALLY wanted to like this one, but it just wasn’t all that interesting to me. I heard it was like Madoka, which was why I gave it a shot, but it just left me feeling bored at the very end of it.

The pacing, the worldbuilding, the narrative; those were all over the place. I can’t really go into details because of spoilers, but they just didn’t work at all. Have of the time it’s trying to be a magical girl show, then it’s trying to be a slice of life, then it’s trying to be some kind of grimdark apocalypse. ...
