So, i'm not sure how i feel about this shit. Re: Cutey episode 1 is one of my favorite things in the entire world. That's really as far as I got with any of the cutey honey shows, but i know a lot about them from just research. This show just feels cheap? Really gross too. Like, y'know you've fucked up when cutey honey looks "gross". And I don't mean the ecchi and whatnot; this series literally birthed ecchi. It's upsetting to see a Go Nagai property treated like ass again, right after we had such a solid one with the new devilman. Shame.

EDIT: I will say though, it looks like it does have a little personality. I'm guessing that's just from the source material, but I digress. I'll probably watch a few more episodes to see where this goes.

What was cheap or gross about this? It felt like it was produced pretty well for me.

The animation quality feels weaker than any other cutie honey (even the 70s one), Aki just kinda gets BDSM'd for no reason? That felt kinda gross. I feel like if that was in the manga, it was handled more gracefully. Her classmates in the beginning look like dog shit (animation wise and design wise). I would say watch episode 1 of Re: Cutie Honey if you wanna see what I'd want from a new Cutie Honey.

Why didnt they make Nat-chan a cop like in Re: Cutie Honey? She was so badass in that one.

That was a design choice made by Anno and Co on the team for Re Cutie honey. In the manga, Nat-chan is just like this (unfortunately)

Daaamn I mentalized myself that this version wouldn't have any yuri like RE and the first thing that bumps out is a kiss, there weren't even 5 minutes!

Well sadly didn't reach my 'half' expectation compare to Re Cutie Honey (but somehow better than Shin Cutie Honey) but the new plot was refreshing that made me entertained (but not enough fanservice though :( ). The animation was vibrant and lovely but still could been better. Nice thing they captured the Honey's characterization well enough. Also I like the villain's look here compare to originals and looks like the sunday's monster of the week show should be fun.

Anyway this was good entertaining episode. Still hoping the old OP will play out later like DC did. :(

Ok so in the first five minutes alone I saw: a bikini girl harem, two chicks kissing, a girl getting turned into Cheetah by a white rose (a literal one not the RubyxWeiss ship from RWBY), a very tall woman who is basecly the female version of Hawkmoth from Miraculous Ladybug, her sidekick spiderwoman with Aku hair, an all female high school with some weird girls, and then two girls having sex in the bushes. And I repeat, that is just the FIRST 5 MINUTES.

Correction: Two TEACHERS having sex in the bushes. XD

I miss the song. :( I miss the charm. This was just missing that something that made the old series' more than just a show about a magical stripper robot girl.

Also, no nipples in the transformation sequence w/o bothering w/ clever camera angles to create a blindspot at least felt like lazy animation.. I don't really mind that they didn't show them, but they showed enough to know that they're missing. ._.;; If DxD can get away w/ nipples in broadcast, why can't something with as much connected cultural significance as Cutie Honey be given a pass by the censors too?

not as fun as Re: Cutie Honey but the ecchi yuri scenes are still there

and lots of sakuga scenes too, i hope they can keep this level of animation consistently

P.S. i already miss the original OP song

Big disappointment and I'm saying that as fan of previous series. Playful animation, intriguing dialogues, clever fanservice - everything that was missing here. The tone was needlessly overserious.

I get they have star VA but this was direction and script disaster. Trigger should have made this they would be perfect.

I watched the first episode ... Lol, who said that this shoujo? It's extremely funny ecchi shonen with horse doses of yuri-bait. However, if you are a lesbian, then... In any case, I like how this show handles fanservice and the plot. Although it does not even try to sound serious, at least it's fun enough and not annoying like in other recent ecchi anime. And I'm not talking about a lot of nice nostalgic tropes.

MAL probably just used the tags for Cutie Honey Flash which is from a shoujo magazine.
https://myanimelist.net/manga/25592/Cutey_Honey_Flash
Though since this one is from a shounen magazine, it should have a shounen tag

Well, if you forget about yuri and another "fanservice", then it is quite similar to the cliché shoujo from the 70's, lol.

Yeah, I was surprised seeing a shoujo tag, on something that didn't look like one. Wait, Cutey Honey Flash is family friendly? The cover for the anime doesn't look family friendly lol.

Yeah, think about Sailor Moon with a Cutey Honey skin. Even the opening is much more softer.

You probably won't need to watch the older ones aside for the "I got that reference" material. This version starts a bit in media res with Honey's progression fighting the panther claw, but they probably explain anything necessary in the show.

I'm not entirely sure what I just watched there but the old school animation, cringey villains, good guys, dialogues, the classic close ripping fanservice & the "KYAAAAAAs!" during it...this was...great! Gimme more!

At first, I hated that this wasn't the original song, but I just watched the whole opening, and I have a smile on my face, sounds fantastic! The visuals aren't as good as Re:'s opening, and the song isn't quite as catchy, but while it's new, it keeps the spirit, I love it!

As for the episode, it was okay. I can see it getting better though. I did enjoy it enough to keep watching, some elements I like, like the designs of the villains and the promise of a dark turn.

Anyone who didn't enjoy it, or were a bit confused, I really recommend checking out Re: Cutie Honey! It is full of energy, a lot of fun to watch, and, it works really well for introducing everyone to the characters. This series definitely doesn't have that "origin story" vibe to it, so it makes sense why some people are kind of lost.

It has more entertaining 1st episode than many of the higher rated anime such as Persona 5 or Comic girls

I don't even know what this show wants to be.

Does it want to be a show geared towards adults or kids? I don't think either demographic would be suitable because this anime can be pretty obscene but the dialogue and characters would really only appeal to children.

I am incredibly unimpressed with this show. Even if there are a lot of sweet tasty shots here and there for obvious reasons, the show just seems too childish for my liking. But unlike something such as Kemono Friends for example, this show is clearly not made for children either.

I'd rather be watching Killing Bites all over again because at least that clearly appeals to a particular demographic.

But still, as much as I am almost certain this will not make the cut, I still need to be fair. So I'll still give it the 3 episode chance. Why am I like this? ^_^

So I jumped into this without any prior knowledge about anything Cutie Honey related. Basically picked it up since 1. I didnt need to watch any of the previous ones. 2. It had Maaya Sakamoto and Yui Horie. 3. Some of the other series of it on MAL had nudity tag on it so I figured this might.

Shit was definitely lewder than I expected. 2 chicks in bikinis making out, everyone has big tits and nice bodies, lots of yuri undertones. Cutie Honey getting basically her entire suit ripped off barely covering anything. School friend in her underwear in tight bondage with whip marks, getting tickled in incredibly suggestive poses.

I'm kind of surprised that since they went that far in the first place they just didnt go all the way and show some nips. Did any of the previous series in the franchise show more? Or has it always teetered this awkward line of feeling like an afternoon kids magical girl show with random violent or lightly sexual scenes tossed in?

Also saw the video of the different versions of the show using the same theme throughout the years that someone else linked. I have no nostalgic connection to the theme song obviously, but it did have that catchy classic vibe to it and I can at least say I'm upset they didnt include it for consistencies sake.

They preserved the 70's feel and the yuri, but I was still strangely underwhelmed. The dialogue didn't feel as sparky and clever, maybe? Or is nostalgia speaking? At least the transformation scene was good.

I hope it gets better as we go along.
