Lunallae said: Eh... If people thought the manga's ending is "wtf," I feel like they didn't understand or try to understand Ash's character. In my opinion, the ending makes a lot of sense, though some circumstances around it were a little unnatural (which is something I hope MAPPA fixes). It's also pretty much confirmed that it's not going to change, the new OP kind of spoils it.
I know a lot of manga readers really dislike the last arc (last 4 volumes) and I used to dislike it as well, but after going back to it, I do realize why it was written in the way that it was. Regardless, I'm pretty sure the last arc is going to get an overhaul. Volume 16 dragged and in my opinion, is also quite pointless (just a bunch of action), so if MAPPA is going to change events up minimally, I suspect this volume will get cut or trimmed significantly. However, there is a also chance that MAPPA will cut an entire antagonist since he did not appear in the OP. If this is the case, then the last arc will get quite a major re-write but going by the OP, key events will probably remain the same.
Volume 19 is also an interesting case because it's actually just a few pages long. The rest of it is populated by two side stories, Angel Eyes and Garden of Light (an epilogue). Angel Eyes is already confirmed to be a Drama CD. Garden of Light is still up in the air and it's also too early to tell if it will be part of this 24 episodes or a separate OVA. But if MAPPA doesn't adapt Garden of Light, then there will be more breathing space for the anime.
I agree. Everyone that hates the end and says it's nonsensical clearly didn't understand Ash as a character and the reasons behind the choices he made. We don't have to like it but it did make sense.
