A special page on author NisiOisiN's official website has announced an anime project of the Zaregoto light novel series.

Zaregoto was originally published between 2002 and 2005 by Kodansha for a total of nine volumes. Del Rey Manga published the first two volumes in English in 2008 and 2010. The first volume, Kubikiri Cycle, is the winner of the 23rd Mephisto Prize, a literary award for unpublished genre fiction novels. The series also placed first in the 2006 Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi! (This Light Novel is Amazing!) rankings in Light Novels category.

Synopsis
The story revolves around the protagonist "I" and the murders and mysteries he encounters. He tries in vain to stay out of the story, but instead he always gets dragged into the center of everything. Even though it seems that he contributes a lot, he always finds out that whatever he did was meaningless in the end.

OMFG HYPE!!! Not even a new season of Monogatari can be this exciting!!! Here comes NisiOisiN's best work, finally in animated form!

Now, hopefully the spin-offs Ningen Series and Saikyou Series will follow suit before long.

I wonder where I've seen this before? That anime turned out to be quite the fascinating watch.

Good news, I liked the first two novels but the rest never got an official English release so I haven't (and won't) read them. Hopefully this show will go past that point at least. I've gotten tired of Monogatari but am still excited for this.

There are really good fan-translations of volumes 3-5.
Volume 6 is being worked at.

So glad my favourite Nisio novel is finally getting an anime, especially since the translations are pretty much dead. Hoping that it gets a good team to work on this (it'll be interesting to see how they adapt Take's unconventional designs into anime format) and maybe a complete adaptation that both Katanagatari and the Monogatari series have been received.

Hopefully this will be better than Katanagatari, since it was kind of crappy.

I enjoy the Monogatari franchise though, so I'll keep my eyes on this one.

I know there's fan translations, which is why I added (and won't). I only read manga/novels I bought on paper. Thanks for pointing it out anyway, though.

Shaft will probably the studio behind this but I wonder if they'll get Oishi to direct this. He's going to be done with the Kizu movies this year anyway.

BOYYYYY IT'S LIT!! Right when I started reading the first volume, too lol

Been hearing from multiple people this is Nisio Isin's best work (which is a big claim considering how amazing Katanagari and MSS were) so I'm expecting greatness. Hopefully the artstyle stays the same.

IF this becomes a megahit like Monogatari we can surely see more of the spin off adaptions come to life.

If they can fit Zaregoto into 2 or 3 cour and its a hit I want to see Ningen Series then Saikyou series

I have heard good things about this novel in the past. Some claim it's NisiO's best piece of literature in his career as a writer. As a Monogatari fan, I am excited. I am hopeful that we will get a full adaptation! SHAFT pls.

"Some claim" doesn't do it justice. Zaregoto is the only work by NisiOisiN to have won the Mephisto Prize, a prestigious literature award usually given to mystery novels. Also noteworthy that it was his debut work.

I would love for him to adapt a full 26 episode Zaregoto series would be the best choice. Plus this man needs to do something after Kizu. In fact other than Shinbou he is the best director they have.

It's been a long time since I read this LN.
Glad to see Zaregoto got anime adaptation.

NisioIsin probably the most profitable LN Writers in Japan for now along with Reki Kawahara.

Maybe Shaft will animated this, if it's not them I hope White Fox for another choice.

I kind of doubt they would go 26 episodes for the first series.
One cour is the most likely, since a safer bet as investments go.

Doubt Aniplex would be worried. Looking at previous success they probably wanna go all out to get a good product for a great return.

So, can we expect the same character design as in Katanagatari? What do you guys think?

Katanagatari nailed it as far as the character designs went.

It'll be hard to tear away from that expectation., so i'm hoping whoever's in charge of character designs this time around willl be able to replicate it just as well.

It's probably gonna release in the end of 2017 or the beginning of 2018,and the last part of kizu is probably in the first half of the next year so Oishi's gonna be free at the time
2 coure is not hard for shaft so I'm not worry

Idk whether Kizu is finished or not. It wouldn't be odd to think that they already animated 3 hours and split it up into 3 and just release it that way. Or they could be just doing 1 hour at a time. Who knows?
