I read your One Piece review and I don't think you gave it a fair chance, most of your review involved complaints about certain aspects and how it was better in Dragon Ball or Naruto.
Before I knew what "anime" or "shounen" is, I watched some things like "A Wind Called Amnesia", "Princess Mononoke", "Yu Gi Oh", "Shaman King". Naruto was actually the first "anime" I've seen and that got me addicted to anime. But in my opinion Naruto had some failed opportunities, like in the world building - where they could have explored the life in different countries, ninja villages and show more characters from each rather than focus on the Fire country, the Leaf village and the characters in it. Naruto was mostly about the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke and ended at a turning point and then Shippuden concluded the story in the worst way possible - aliens from the moon and some kind of outrageous things that completely made everything in the first part of Naruto meaningless. It was a horrible ending, while I liked the first Naruto, the second one doesn't do it any justice and I think One Piece is better in most aspects. I can only wish Naruto was better, but it wasn't. And now the Boruto series is so bad I can't even look at still images of it.
You complained about One Piece's characters, but keep in mind that the show is now over 1100 episodes, what happened in the beginning was only 10% of the story so far. You've watched about 183 episodes or so your review says, that's less than 20% of the story. You know, the further I got into the story and the more serious it became with important characters being gone for good, I started missing the early adventures, the part where you stopped and thought it was boring. This was actually the part that I enjoyed the most - where Luffy was gathering his crew and the adventures felt carefree and fun. Later on it gets serious and the events that take place make it both hard, mysterious and very addicting, but also makes you nostalgic for the early times.
The characters do change over time, but you haven't seen it yet. Yes, I agree that Sanji's nosebleeds or Nami's greed are getting boring when you've seen them for the 500th time, but that's not the main focus. Also as the story progresses and events affect the crew and they change, those things become less prominent and the characters act more serious. Also there is no evidence or example of Sanji being sexist. He just likes women and treats them like ladies. There is a story about his background as a child why he became so respecting of women to the point where he refuses to lay a finger on them even if they threaten to kill him.
At first the story feels vague - they travel from one island to another with almost no connection between each, but to be honest, that was the nice nostalgic feelign I have for the early parts. But later in the story, all the places they visit become connected, especially Arabasta the desert kingdom becomes important as the story nears its ending. Later the places they visit aren't so random, they know where they will go and why, because they want to go there for some reason. Even when they went to Arabasta which felt kind of random, it had a purpose, they found Robin as their archaeologist crew member and she was there after the Poneyglyph there, which she decyphered fro the crew's future assistance. Going to Skypea was also for another Poneyglyph. Going to Water 7 was so they they can repair their ship. After the time skip, every place they visit is for a good reason and events from previous islands follow them and affect the world.
Everything now feels connected, you know why the world is 95% water and 5% islands and a lot of other things that if I say here, I will risk spoiling.
The characters' abilities are actually really interesting. I don't know why you think a Rubber Man is boring, it's the most unique in any of the shounen anime out there. And also a small spoiler - Luffy doesn't actually have a Rubber power, it's a code name given to his ability by the World Government, his power is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. They just gave it a false name so nobody looks for it and it's actually the most sought out power in the entire world. Rubber is like 1% of the actual power. You mentioned Blueno who can open doors - that's actually one of the coolest abilities I've seen in the series, most of them are really interesting, maybe about 10% of everything is a bit boring and contrived.
The world building is bad is one of your complaints - I really don't see it as the places they visit are so different from one another, that I don't remember any other anime having such different locations. You have Skypea - an island in the sky where you walk on clouds, you have a water city like Venice, but way cooler, you have a Horror island that is not attached to the sea floor and is actually inside a ship that travels the ocean - Thriller Bark. There is also a new story that Thriller Bark is a new name of an old island where some historic events took place. No wonder Gecko Moria chose to make it his base, it wasn't a coincidence. So it's very relevant. The zombies there weren't typical scary mindless zombies, but also had personality and provided comic relief, which was an interesting concept. After that when you stopped watching, the places they visit are even more interesting and unique. There is an island where one half is burning magma and volcanoes and the other is a freezing landscape.
You complain some characters are introduced but don't have any purpose, which is not true, as a lot of old characters come back in the future and have great importance for the story, so much that you would have never imagined it. And in the more recent years, they started following several stories at the same time - so you see the Straw Hat Pirates, then you see some other people on the other end of the world, then a third group, then a fourth and so on.
I'm afraid to say, but all of your complaints aren't valid. I can understand that you didn't like the series at first, and that's OK, but I think you compared it too much to Dragon Ball and Naruto, when there is very little comparison between them. While I haven't watched Dragon Ball and my opinion about it is that it's very childish, I've seen Naruto and while it had some cool concepts, One Piece just beats it completely, there is no room for doubt. You also said Dragon Ball has better characters, but I don't think either has better or worse characters, I think in all three - Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball, the characters are literally on the same level. Why you didn't like One Piece, I can't explain, but you don't have to, I just wanted to let you know all your complained about is wrong and later on it's proved to be the opposite of what you say it is.
For me One Piece was the best anime series I've seen - from the first episode I liked it - the world, the art, how characters look, the quirky and unique style, the story pacing was OK for me - first it's slow and cheerful, then it gradually becomes more serious. I think Dragon Ball and Naruto's story is aimed at kids 7-12 year old. One Piece starts kind of like that, but the current story is aimed for people 17-18 and up. It's pretty serious and brutal with people being boiled alive in hot oil or being shot multiple times and all of it being shown in the anime for a whole episode so people to see.
You just don't give it justice and you're wrong, but maybe you will realize that you were wrong and may give it another try and will like it. For me the only complaint about One Piece is that it's so interesting that I can't wait to find out what happens next. Last time I stopped watching in 2019 and continued in 2025, in a few days I caught up on it and now I'm putting it on another break for a few years until there is more story or it ends in that time so I can watch it in one go. It does have some flaws, but I honestly can't think of another anime that is so good, it's so long-running and it only gets better rather than feel stale or get worse. Another such long running anime is Detective Conan, something I only saw a few episodes from and didn't continue so I don't know if it's as good, but if it continues to get new episodes, it probably is pretty good.
