| Hmmm, I still think that the OVA is better for this arc, this episode has really low guts for showing gore... I think it's good for anyone who watch this series to watch the OVA too. Next is Hyou, I hope studio VOLN can make badass action for Tora vs Hyou :) |

| This episode was a blast, tora is just funny as hell. You know a show is doing something right if you end up legitimently liking a character who is just a demon who wants to eat innocent humans. |

| Now in terms of the narrative we're good, so much action of good quality and with many elements to understand better the essence of Torah and the real potential of the latter and Ushio. Really excellent designs and animations, then this vintage style is a boon, because for some fresh air to the increasingly dominant moe. Oh, and the soundtrack is excellent, beautiful style of the opening and the ending. Since the TV series is very long and includes other seasons, the fact that history has not yet taken off, I do not mind much. |

| I recently read more about Mappa online, had no idea they were founded one of the original Madhouse founders. It makes sense though this feels like a lost Madhouse show, maybe because Madhouse adapts old mangas too. At any rate this show just keeps getting better and better. Tora was in rare form in this episode, the humor usually produces little more than a chuckle from me but I was quite amused by Tora discovering modern urban life for the first time. I lost it when he not unfairly assumed all cars were friends with one another. I also liked how he accepted Ushio's apology at the end even though he was just about to eat Ushio's friend before he showed up. What I liked most about this episode though was we're getting serious development with the characters and their relationships if not some sort of overarching plot. Inoue now knows about Ushio's secret (when and who can see Tora seems kind of loosely defined to me at least in the anime) which is good I wasn't looking forward to rifts between him and other characters because he can't reveal what's going on with him. That's always kind of annoying honestly. I also think Inoue will end up aiding Ushio in his fight against demons. I don't believe it's a coincidence that she was a dead ringer for the old priestess. Plus the spirits say as they're being trapped they will destroy her no matter how many times she's reborn which can't be accidental or coincidental wording. The final evidence to me was Asako referring to her as an old woman, and Tora singling her out because she was the only one he'd run into who wasn't contaminated with modern pollutants. I think it's not too shabbily setting her up for some magical powers sometime soon. Excited to start watching more of this show at once, wonder if his Dad really just dipped and left him with the carnivorous demon or if he's going to get outside help? |

| I love this show, and it's so great I discovered the original OVA from 10 years ago got remade. But, this episode has one thing that bothers me: Shouldn't Tora recognize Mayuko? He was on Ushio's shoulders when they talked right at the end of episode 1, she was there with the Rock Eater in episode 2, AND Ushio again went with Asako and Mayuko to the art gallery in episode 3. Either Tora pays zero attention to any and all humans without direct relevant to him (would fit his character), or he just has a very bad memory. Minor hiccup for me though. I do miss the very end scene with Tora eating the burger and the old man coming up and seeing the Gamin dead and then seeing Tora, harmlessly munching away, "That must be the Youkai Ushio warned me about. But, he doesn't look dangerous." That was in both the manga and first OVA. Guess it was cut simply for time. Shame. Vindstot said: So, Tora can go through walls but not glasses? I guess it was intended for comedic purpose only. Well, glass didn't exist in feudal Japan. Tora's no doubt refined his technique of going through mortar (because humans had that), but glass, he probably could with more practice, but not at the moment. He's never ever seen the stuff in that quantity before. I may be wrong, but there's some sort of implication of how and why that's left for the viewer to infer. |
